This was our second stay here at Casa Escondida and our 4th trip to Palm Beach estates and it was our best trip yet. The house is perfect. It has everything you could possibly need. Kristi and Doug, the property managers were easy to contact and responded immediately anytime I needed them. The beach out back is practically your own private beach with absolutely stunning sunsets. The weather was absolutely unbeatable. We swam and surfed each night at sunset and it was like being in a scene from a movie. Just hard to imagine. We love Playa Grande so much and really enjoyed staying at Casa Escondido. It’s likes little piece of heaven. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your spectacular home.

First Playa Grande Visit

The property met our expectations. Being able to walk down a path through the backyard to get to the beach was a great perk. The beach was pretty empty which was nice. We enjoyed watching the sun setting over the ocean. The garden areas are well maintained and quite lovely. Howler monkeys were often in the trees- note that their dawn “howling” is surprisingly loud. We kinda freaked out the first morning because of the volume and duration but became accustomed to their vocalizations and enjoyed watching them play and travel through the trees on the property. The house, pool and the outdoor kitchen area had plenty of seating for our group. We appreciated having a washer/dryer in the house since our stay at Casa Escondido was at the end of our 2 week vacation. There are 4 restaurants/bars as well as a small market within walking distance to the house. Highly recommend dining at Cafe Azul and the Grateful Hotel. The property manager and the “handyman” were helpful and responded quickly when needed. The ladies in our group highly recommend massages with Ara. There were some things that need a little TLC which have been brought to the attention of the house manager. Would recommend this rental house.

Great location for a more quiet stay

For us, we loved the proximity to Tamarindo in terms of walking down the beach to the “shuttle/taxi” but lived not staying in Tamarindo. Multiple good restaurants near the home. If you take surfing lessons be cautious that they are full service in their teaching. Hosts were very communicative and helpful.

Enjoyable Casa Escondida

My family (4 adults) had an enjoyable stay at Casa Escondida in April 2024. The, 3 comfortable bedrooms, proximity to the beach, good weather, and quiet and peaceful environs were definite pluses. There were, however, several issues with the property that required property management to remedy and only partially; malfunctioning AC in master BR, moldy smell in master bath, slow shower drains, plugged kitchen sink, calcification on shower heads and small kitchen appliances (interior of coffee pot, hot water pot, dishwasher) (likely due to water hardness), broken refrigerator shelves, were disappointing and certainly not commensurate with comparable VRBO properties we've rented. Additionally, the swimming pool was unusable the first 2 days because of an algae bloom that Doug addressed. The Playa Grande location is beautiful, with miles of uncrowded beaches, lots of wildlife, very relaxing. Getting to Tamarindo, noisy, overcrowded and limited parking, was challenging and not worth it. Kristi, the property manager, is superb and promptly addressed our concerns and requests.

Fabulous Find!

We had a wonderful week at this great property! The house is spacious, comfortable, beautiful, well equipped. It is located SO close to a beautiful beach, a quick walk through the tree lined path. It only takes a minute to run back if you forget something! It was nice having a pool to ourselves also. Kristi and Doug were extremely helpful and responsive and had good contacts for activities and guides. The washer worked but the dryer was awaiting repair while we were there (there had been storms before our arrival that caused problems) so Kristi had someone pick up our clothes and towels, they dried them at a nearby property and returned them promptly. Very Accommodating! The waterfall hike (Nervin was our fabulous guide) was a highlight. There are good restaurants in the area, a short walk or drive. Restaurants we liked: Pots and Bowls, Kiki's, The Sugaree at the Grateful Hotel (live music evenings, walking distance), Gracia at Mar Vista has an infinity pool with a beautiful view where diners are invited to swim! You can eat on the patio and then take a dip or there's also a swim up bar. We definitely recommend this property and would return for sure!

Secluded Beach Front

My adult family & I enjoyed our first trip to Costa Rica August 2023, staying at Casa Escondindo in Playa Grande. The house is a two bedroom, two bath with a third room completely separated from the house but with easy access. The house is located on a secluded beach front property with beautiful landscaping. The private pool was refreshing after a long fun day on the beach. We purchased fresh snapper & shrimp from Frank’s fish truck. And enjoyed grilling together & dining and lounging on the patio. We especially loved watching all the monkeys just hanging out in the trees in the yard.

Magical

Absolute beauty! Perfect location…gorgeous property…..lovely house! The hosts, Kristi & Doug were sensational. Helpful with pre vacation arrangements for catamaran tour, massage (Ara) and our private driver (Alvaro). And only a call away if we needed anything. Every single person we met in Costa Rica was beyond nice. Incredibly pleasant and helpful. Can’t recommend this property enough. FYI…..checkout the “Grateful Hotel & Sugaree’s Bar & Grill”…..ask for Phil!! You won’t be disappointed.

Paradise in Playa Grande

The property was perfect in a perfect location. We woke up to a family of monkeys in the trees 3 mornings of our stay. We basically had our own private beach with just surfers and the occasional beach walkers. We enjoyed all the great restaurants in close walking distance to the house. The pool and grounds were immaculate. Doug and Kristi made sure our vacation was perfect and answered all our questions immediately. We couldn’t leave a review without mentioning the amazing surprise we had with Phil and Sugaree’s Bar & Grill at The Grateful Hotel. So cool. We already want to go back. Pura Vida !

Absolutely Amazing Property

I've rented numerous homes through VRBO over the years and this property was, without a doubt, the absolute best. The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful this property is. The outdoor pool is amazing. The beach--shut the door--is so beautiful. I just wish I didn't have to leave. Loved every second.

Sehr schönes Haus

Das Haus war genau so wie beschrieben. Der Zugang zum Strand war super, nur ein paar Schritte weit weg und es hatte fast keine Leute (einzig, es gibt am Strand keinen Schatten). Die Sonnenuntergänge waren spektakulär. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet, schöner Poolbereich, das Haus hat alles was man braucht und ist geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Top für Ruhesuchende (Partys und viele Restaurants auf der anderen Seite eines Flusses, ca. 3km am Strand entlang (Boote über den Fluss fahren nur bis 17 Uhr). Check-in und out war sehr unkompliziert und sehr freundlich (Kristi ist toll, man wird von ihr rund um die Uhr sehr gut beraten und betreut, vielen Dank). Kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Wonderful Stay

Our stay in Costa Rica and Casa Escondido was amazing. It was our first-time visiting Costa Rica and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice in lodging. Although I read all the positive comments about the beach in front of the house prior to booking, I really didn’t understand how spectacular it was. It really felt like our private beach. Our kids are 14 and 10. We did a few excursions, but they said the beach days were their favorite. We live 20 minutes from the beach in Southern California, but the beaches here don’t compare. The location of the house was perfect with so many restaurants within walking distance. The grounds were very nice, and we felt very safe with the gated yard and secluded beach. We didn’t do much cooking thanks to the proximity of good restaurants nearby, but the kitchen had all the kitchen essentials you would need. The beds were comfortable and the A/C worked great. Kristi was very responsive & was extremely helpful in assisting us with excursions. We would definitely recommend.

Beach paradise

Perfect house for our family of 4. Location to the beach, restaurants and surfing could not have been better. We were there only three days, so didn’t need a car, but if we were to stay longer- a car is recommended. We had howler monkeys pass through twice, along with birds, lizards and way too many crabs. Kristi was responsive and helpful- and house was well stocked. Would definitely rent again.

Peaceful getaway in paradise

Our family came to Casa Escondida after the thrilling adventures of Arenal, so we were ready for some relaxation. The Palm Beach Estates is a beautiful, chill neighborhood with excellent local restaurants and little hotels. Definitely try them all!! The pool and beach provided the perfect spots to unwind. The house is spacious and clean and there's an awesome outdoor kitchen, which we did not get to use, but which would've been convenient. We didn't rent a car and instead used the driver recommended by Kristi. He and his son were excellent--prompt, courteous and reliable. I definitely think it would have been handy to have a car in this area though, because it's a little removed from everything. Kristi is a great concierge with helpful tips and local connections. Overall, a wonderful way to end our stay in Costa Rica.

Paradise on the Beach

We had a wonderful Christmas holiday on the beach. We enjoyed the very very short walk to the Playa Grande beach. We also enjoyed the beautiful covered porch and pool. Upon entering the development, they have a guard posted and one guard patrolling at night. An added safety bonus. We felt 100% safe during the entire visit. We will definitely be back!

Beach Paradise!

After driving through the rain at night we were finally able to find the house which was a little difficult to find at night. Kristi was great with helping us get settled in and show us everything we needed to know. The house itself was everything and more than you needed. Very comfortable. Our two older kids stayed in the room attached at the back of the house. The rancho area by the pool was amazing! Although the neighbours are close and elevated so they can see you when you’re in the pool and the rancho area. The beach access was the selling point for us..being able to walk 50 steps to Playa Grande was absolutely paradise!! We ventured throughout the neighborhood and ate at almost all the close restaurants. The food was very good everywhere! The market down the street also has everything we needed in a pinch. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!
