Our Mountain Chalet is a beautiful naturally lit 3 story home with an open floor plan and with 2 Master bedrooms. Come relax on our wrap-around deck or on the balcony. Enjoy the stars and fireflies in the evening around our fire pit. Listen to the sound of cicadas as you fall asleep during summer and Fall nights. Gaze out of our sliding glass doors and large windows from the leather sofas in the living room and enjoy the mountain views during any season. Enjoy our extensive library with many wildflower, wildlife, and bird identification books. Experience the mountains without having to drive far to enjoy downtown Waynesville. We are less than 5 minutes from Downtown Waynesville and 10 minutes from Maggie Valley, NC. Jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway (we provide free maps with our favorite spots circled), which is 15 minutes from the house. Easefully arrive at the house, paved roads the whole way, no steep gravely driveway. Large driveway allows more than three vehicles for large parties.
Give your self a spa or golf day and take a day trip to the Waynesville Golf Resort and Spa, only 1.3 miles from the Chalet.
Receive our quest treasure hunt list-designed by me (USFWS Botanist) and my husband (Event Coordinator for City of Asheville). Let us give you a Vacation of a lifetime:))

Why we love our home-
The wrap around deck and balcony allow for maximum relaxation. The exposed beams give it a cabin flare. It is perfect for a family because we have four bedrooms with three full bathrooms so everybody has there own space.. Its also a perfect house and location for a romantic getaway. The master bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling and opens up to its own private balcony. The master bath has a jet tub. Also on the 3rd story is a 2nd bedroom with two twin beds. The first story bedroom has a Master bedroom with its own private bath. The fourth bedroom has a day bed with a trundle. Our house is nicely decorated and is lightly lived in. It feels new and cozy like a cottage. Being a botanist, there are many floral paintings and prints. The house is located in close proximity to Great Smoky Mountains National park, Nantahala National Forest, and Pisgah National forest making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin while shooting our feature film down the road. The hosts are lovely and responded quickly when we realized we left something at the cabin after checking out. 5 stars! Thank you for the lovely accomodations.

Felt like home. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Lots to do just minutes away. Great home base for laid back morning, afternoon, or all day excursions - all the shops in downtown Waynesville, the Parkway, Christopher Farms, Lake Junaluska, all highly recommended.

Amazing vacation

This home was spacious, clean and a well stocked kitchen. Fresh sheets and towels. Would definitely recommend this home to family and friends.

great location

The house is in a great location in Waynesville. The company was easy to deal with and made a refund when I asked to shorten the stay by one day. The view was terrific and the accommodations very nice.

Love the house, nice owners

This is the second time in 2 years, house is perfect for my Motorcycle group, and owners are 100% helpfull. We will like to stay there again next year.

Lovely mountain retreat

This mountain home was clean , comfortable, and lovely. Close to Waynesville, NC which is a vibrant town. We enjoyed shopping , galleries , and a beautiful walking trail around Lake Junaluska.

Nice Place to Stay in Waynesville NC

Enjoyed a week-long stay. House was clean, well furnished and well supplied with everything we needed. Convenient location; close to downtown, but in a quite neighborhood near the edge of town. Easy and very quick communication with owners.

Fun times had by all!

The Chalet was really nice and easily accessible from downtown Waynesville! Plus it was an easy drive to the Cattaloochee Ski area through Maggie Valley. Overall, I would enjoy staying here again in the future due to the homes space and its environment! It was excellent!

College roommates golfing in Waynesville

Since 1986, 3 former college roommates and I have been getting together for our roommate reunion and it always includes golf and great food. This year was great. The house was comfortable with an ideal location.

Wonderful Property

This is a great house, well maintained and very clean. Be aware that all bedrooms have stairs to either access them or access the rest of the house. Super easy to find, well stocked and just a great all around property.

Enjoyed our stay. Kitchen a little tight, but everything was in working order. Beds very comfortable. Location to town, golf, restaurants etc was fantastic. Owner very receptive to any issues and very good to deal with. Would rent there again

Just what we needed

Perfect for us chalet in a nice part of Waynesville, close to downtown and all that Waynesville has to offer. Nestled right in the middle of the mountains led to beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Would we do it again? Absolutely, can't wait to get back. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Thank you April and Basil!

Quaint Hilltop Oasis in the Smokies

The Runaway Chalet offers a beautifully situated escape from the rush of daily life. Settling into the hillside, the home offers just the right mix of access to area attractions and quiet surroundings. 4 bedrooms offer enough space for the family and the hosts have left all of the details checked off the list in moving right in. If you’re looking to be close to downtown Waynesville, Lake Junaluska, Cherokee and other area sites this may well be the place for you. Check it out on your next getaway. You won’t regret it.

Lovely stay at the Chalet!

We had a lovely time visiting the Chalet these past few days :) April and Basil were very helpful and responsive throughout the entire stay, check-in/check-out was a breeze, and the place was very clean. The sound bar with an AUX cable was a fun bonus to allow us to play music while cooking, etc. Some light feedback for next time - it'd be great to have a pair of scissors in the house, as well as a lighter for lighting the grill. The corkscrew in the house was broken as well, making it hard to open a bottle of wine. Finally, the upstairs shower doesn't drain super well, causing the water to pool around the ankles. Still, net a great trip, and we'd recommended it to others and stay again!

The property is nicely kept with comfortable beds but the pillows were flat and need an upgrade. Getting into the house after dark was difficult as the only door with a key is the backdoor up a steep drive. It is pitch black on the side of the house - a light should be installed to help. The driveway sits low where the drive and street meet and my car was damaged. Perhaps some concrete to smooth is out - low sitting cars get damaged. The firepit area was dirty and right next to the AC/ heat unit so it was not user friendly. The grill was dirty also and unusable. The owners were very nice, the neighbor hood quiet and great view of the mountains.

Nice Cabin but needed somethings done to make it more appealing

nice place but needed to have exterminator come and spray a few times a year to get rid of the bug problem. plus bad needed of landscaping and bushes trimmed. Plus it said it had a garage but really could not use it was full of the owners belongings so that was a disappointment not able to use the garage. Plus how the pictures was showing it really did not show you how steep the driveway was plus did not tell you that when you left you had to go up and turn around at the dead end part of the road to get out. But overall it was a nice place just needs some loving care to make it better place to rent and if they cannot clean the garage out for renters they need to state that there is no garage usage there for renters.

This is a very well stocked cabin. Plenty of room for us and a good kitchen in which to cook. Only downside is it was quite close to other neighbors. They were quiet but the pictures don’t really show that it’s not in a secluded environment. We enjoyed it very much.

Basil and I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia on the coast. We lived in the mountains for a decade and moved to Charleston, SC. I was the Botanist for Nantahala National Forest and accepted a Botanist job with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Charleston. Basil was an event coordinator for the City of Asheville and now works for Charleston County Parks. We love to travel and explore new sights and sounds. We are happy to share the Chalet with travelers and think Waynesville-Western North Carolina is a special area.

It is a beautiful home with tons of windows, offering views from many rooms. It has a lot of natural light and is open and nicely built. It is close to the highway and easy to access. Also, close to downtown Waynesville and still close to downtown Asheville.

Balcony, wrap-around deck, two master bedrooms, three full bathrooms. Library with lots of naturalist and gardening books-my personal collection. Close to Blue Ridge Parkway and beautiful river spot-ask upon booking
