Comanche cabin on the west rim
āMarĆŗaweeka,ā
(āWelcomeā in the Uto-Aztecan language spoken by the people) to Doves Rest Cabins ā Comanche!
The Comancheās were fierce warriors who reached present-day New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle and Palo Duro Canyon by 1700. During that time, their population increased dramatically because of the abundance of buffalo. Though the tribe was large, they never formed a single tribal unit, but rather, were divided into some eight to twelve independent groups. Sharing the same language and culture, they sometimes fought, and other times at peace, cooperating one with the other, similar to the modern family today!
Comanche in their native language is āNuminuā, meaning the People. And, Comanche Cabin is just thatā¦for the People. We are proud to bring you this newly constructed home with a universal and accessible design to accommodate a wide variety of guests. This single floor house has been specially designed to accommodate people of all ages, genders, sizes and physical abilities. 36ā wide doorways and hallways, generously sized bathrooms with roll in shower, staggered height kitchen countertops, front entrance and back patio low thresholds for wheelchair ease of access are some of the notable features that make Doves Rest Cabins ā Comanche accessible to the PEOPLE.
Comanche is a three-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very accessible, functional and cozy 1,440 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and BBQ grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.
Unwind and enjoy magical moments while the golden light mixed with clouds plays over the expanse of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. One of the best features of the lovely view from this cabin is the vistas one can see in an 180 degree angle.
Only 16-miles from the city of Canyon, home to West Texas A & M University and just 30-miles south from Amarillo and historic Route 66. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, museumās and all local amenities to enjoy in the ācity.ā

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding.
You can bring your own horses so donāt hesitate to ask us about local boarding.
Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.
During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.
You'll find Comanche Cabin a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit. Here is where the Buffalo roamed. Itās Southern & Quahada Comanche (the most powerful & ruthless Indian tribes in American history), Kiowa, and Cheyenne and Arapaho territory. During their time, around 150-years ago, millions of Buffalo made this land their home and Palo Duro Canyon was a retreat for these nomad Indians - hunters of Buffalo. Chief Quanah Parker, the last of the Quahada Comanche warriors, fought the battle of Palo Duro Canyon not more than 20-miles east from Doves Rest in September 1874. It brought an official end to the U.S./Indian wars and the eventual peace that finally allowed settlers to occupy this last remaining freedom-outpost of āuncivilizedā land in North America. Now, fun memories and RELAXATION happen here!
