There were huge road works going on all the way down Rua das Flores. The council was also conducting a complete overhaul of the water and sewage works. We had no control over that unfortunately. As a result no bedding was laid out until the last minute in order to minimise dust settling on the bed linen before your arrival. If you were that inconvenienced by noise and dust you should have left the first day you arrived and you would have received a full refund. Instead you chose to stay the full duration of the 10 days of your booking. During your stay you repeatedly called me, the owner, to complain about the council and the manager who tried his level best to make things more tolerable for you stay including buying you lunch. In return you refused the offer to leave the villa and left the villa in a truly awful state upon your departure. There were multiple things broken, including the jacuzzi which showed E-ERROR mode which it has never done before! We had to replace the electronic control pad of the jacuzzi which cost £800. The contractor gave us an opinion that the controls had been physically misused to the point that the circuit shorted internally. It looked as though a heavy object has been smashed on it. I would warn any villa owner to not rent their property to you as your verbal abuse since May has never stopped. Continued threats of legal action and abusive emails and text messages, it has been a genuine nightmare. You saw an opportunity, abused of it and then wanted the entire stay for free. Not only that but you have repeatedly threatened to sue me over and above for having a bad holiday. At no point did we beg you to stay as we understood the works in the roads were loud and dusty. You simply refused to leave. After all your complaints to Vrbo, not even they would refund your stay given that you could have left the first day with a full refund. We did warn you prior to your arrival that works were being done in the road in front of the house. Given the level of damage done to our property, we submitted proofs and photos to Vrbo which they were genuinely shocked to see. We did not even claim against your damage deposit because of the level of verbal abuse we kept getting from you. We literally just wanted you to get your damage deposit back and leave. My wife has been so traumatised by this experience that we almost packed in renting our villa out at all. Thankfully we have had some lovely customers stay since you left and they have restored our belief that customers love our little house by the sea. We have been renting our villa for holiday makers since 2011 and never before had such a truly frightening experience. We also went to stay for 2 weeks in August with my parents and we triple checked that everything was working well and all repairs were done. We had a lovely time. Ironically, after all the fuss, the new road looks superb. There is no smell of sewage since the council finished the works.

You cancelled your stay the day you arrived. You did not spend a single night at our villa. You did not pay a penny for your stay because you received a full refund due to your cancellation. I don’t know why you left a review at all? You have no experience of staying in our villa or enjoying the benefits and the surroundings! Pest control have been into our property to perform a full fumigation before and after your immediate departure. We, the owners, are staying in our villa for 3 weeks since your quick arrival and immediate departure to ensure that the property is completely free of pests which is not just a problem in our villa but has been a problem in Lagos and Carvoeiro this year. The council have had to fumigate sewer pipes in the area to try and control the problem. Your review is not deserved and not welcome. Not only did the cancellation cause us problems with VRBO, and not only did we lose your booking due to your cancellation but now you want cause further problems by leaving an awful review for the couple of hours you were there.

We strongly dispute the claims made in this review. Our rates are calculated according to the number of guests included in the booking, rather than the property’s maximum occupancy. Additional guests are charged €25 per person, per night. The booking was initially made for three guests, and the additional charge only arose when a fourth person joined the group and we were not notified The property was thoroughly cleaned and inspected before arrival. Unfortunately, it was left in an appalling condition following this group’s five-night stay. Several glasses were broken, with pieces of glass left where they had fallen. The toilet and toilet seat were undamaged before check-in, yet after departure we found the toilet seat removed and placed on the bathroom sink. The kitchen was also left in an extremely poor state. Food had been forced down the kitchen plughole, completely blocking the sink, and we had to arrange for a plumber to attend and clear it. When our manager challenged the group regarding the number of guests staying at the property, he was subjected to aggressive behaviour and threatened with physical violence. Despite our attempts to resolve matters and assist the guests during their stay, they were repeatedly rude and disrespectful. Because of the extensive damage caused, we had no alternative but to retain the security deposit. Detailed photographic evidence of the condition of the property was provided to Vrbo, together with justification for all charges made.
