Peaceful 6 bedroom country lake house with spacious grounds, tennis court & pool

The house is set in a small village (Doazon), right on the edge of a fantastic lake, where its possible to fish or take a leisurely walk around. You truly understand the words 'relax and unwind' when you are sitting on the terrace looking out over the lake with the Pyrenees in the background.
Its a spacious house, spread over 3 levels. There are 6 bedrooms easily accommodating 10 to 12 people, as well as 6 bathrooms (4 being en-suites). There is a large dining area and two lounges. The games room is located close by in a separate barn with a table tennis table and electronic darts. There are many other games stored here including; badminton, swing ball, boules.
There are spacious grounds for all ages to enjoy. The multi purpose court caters for tennis, basket ball and football. The outdoor chess set, beside the heated pool and overlooking the lake, is also ideal for all ages.
The new kitchen is well equipped with cooker, dish washer, fridges, freezer, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, kettle and many pots / pans.
Outside there is a terrace, overlooking the pool, chess set and the lake with steps leading down to the pool. There are many sun lounges and tables located around the pool area to relax and enjoy. There is a separate covered barbecue pergola for fabulous alfresco entertaining. The tasteful lighting provides an ideal setting to enjoy the long summer evenings.
There are 2 market towns within 10 mins which have all your local requirements. Arthez De Bearn has a supermarket, Boulangerie, Patisserie, Pharmacie, sports bar and Tabac. Artix has all of these plus a couple of great restaurants too. If you are looking for a supermarche; either Orthez or Serre Castet (near Pau Airport) are the answer and both are within 20 mins.

Wow! Yvonne and Rod do not disappoint!

This vacation property ticks every box you could imagine. We highly recommend it to anyone with a group that just want that south of France luxurious vacation. It’s close to pau and the Pyrenees and house home is beautifully decorated with a stocked spice cupboard and the most comfy beds you’ll ever experience. The views the gardens it’s all there! Thankyou Yvonne and Rod for sharing your lovely property!

Definitely a HomeAway from Home

We booked this wonderful house way back in December 2017; Yvonne, the owner, rang to check that we had the correct year for the booking! Over the months until our departure, we all imagined ourselves sitting around that large table outside overlooking the lake, sipping on a wine and watching the sunset. And we devoured the photos on the website - so many dreams. We were not disappointed;; nine friends from Canberra, Australia had the most wonderful holiday here. Yvonne has not overlooked one thing to make this a HomeAway from home -- from the well-equipped kitchen and butler's pantry, to the oh so comfortable beds and fine linen, to the modern en suite bathrooms, and the little decorative surprises around every corner -- perfect for groups or families. From the time of booking right through to our departure, Yvonne and her property managers, Liz and Ashley, were an absolute pleasure, with all our questions answered promptly. There is plenty of space to unwind and relax, whether as a group or individually, and the gardens just add to the ambience of this gem of a house by the lake. Artix is only a short drive away where we found a very friendly butcher and a delicious patisserie, plus the supermarket stocks everything you could need or want, including some very nice wines. And the Saturday markets at Arthez de Bearn are well worth a visit for a couple of very large, fresh chickens. We loved our holiday in the house by the lake; the memories of this idyll will stay with us forever. Thank you Yvonne, Liz and Ashley.

Superbe endroit

Il serait utile de fournir un réfrigérateur plus grand, les 2 petits offrent un espace limité. Bien que nous n'ayons pas été trop dérangés par le bruit du circuit de Pau non loin de notre résidence, il serait utile de préciser sa proximité. Il serait utile de prévoir la télé TNT disponible pour les français, joindre un mode d'emploi.

2 Wochen bester Familienurlaub in Doazon

Um es vorweg zu sagen: wir (10 Personen) durften 2 tolle Ferienwochen in diesem wundervollen Haus in Doazon verbringen. Am Tag unserer Ankunft hat Ashley schon auf uns gewartet. Er und seine Frau Liz kümmern sich um das Haus und die beiden sind nicht nur bei Problemen immer ansprechbar. Er hat uns durchs Haus geführt und uns alles gezeigt und erklärt. Die Zimmer waren schnell verteilt und unser Familienurlaub konnte beginnen. Das Haus ist sehr groß und bietet mit der großen Terrasse, dem Pool, dem überdachten Grillplatz, dem Schachfeld, dem Tennisplatz und dem riesigen Nutz- und Ziergarten jede Menge Freizeit- und Rückzugsmöglichkeiten. Wir durften uns sogar am Gemüse und den Kräutern bedienen. Das ganze Haus ist üppig ausgestattet. Die Küche ließ keine Wünsche offen und es gibt sogar einen separaten Wein- und Getränkekühlschrank. Doazon liegt sehr ländlich. Alle Ruhesuchenden sind dort also richtig. Man muss sich allerdings im klaren sein, dass auch kleinere Besorgungen nicht ohne Auto zu machen sind. Die Ausflüge an den Atlantik, in die Pyrenäen, nach Biarritz, Espelette und San Sebastian waren großartig und empfehlenswert. Wir haben uns jederzeit sehr wohl in diesem wunderschönen "Haus am See" in Doazon gefühlt.

idéal pour un séjour en famille

Un cadre magnifique, une organisation de la maison (nombre de pièces et salles d'eau) permettant à chacun d'y trouver sa place tout en ayant des lieux de vie communs spacieux, une cuisine très bien équipée. La piscine bien entretenue lors de 2 passages (discrets) pendant la semaine, le court de tennis,le super barbecue, les équipements divers depuis les raquettes jusqu'aux sacs de courses...tout est prévu pour permettre aux vacanciers de se sentir "chez eux" le temps d'un rêve. Enfin Liz et Ashley sont à la fois réactifs et très accueillants.

Home away from home

During a hectic few months travelling around Europe, we met up with some Australian friends at this beautiful chateau. It was a lovely place to enjoy French living, explore the neighbouring areas (Toulouse, Lourdes, the Pyrenees and San Sebastian quite easy day trips) and just relax and unwind and enjoy the amenities of the property itself. The house was well presented and clean; booking and check in was simple and the one time we needed a question answered, the housekeepers were quick to respond and obliging. Would thoroughly recommend this property to groups of friends or large family groups wanting to experience life in the French country.

A great retreat for a large group.

We stayed at the Lake House as part of a reunion of a large group of friends. The house was ideal given the large number bedrooms (many with en suites) and the extensive facilities. We made good use of the tennis court, swimming pool and giant chess set. Catering for our large group was easy and we made good use of the BBQ and outdoor eating area. Views over the lake were a bonus. The owner, Yvonne, was exceptionally responsive and helpful. Although we were very happy just staying at the house, Yvonne made excellent suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants in the area. Although everything was in order it was comforting to know that the local caretaker Ashley and his wife were close by to assist.

The cure

A week at La Chênaie is always the best moment of the year for me . First , because the entire property is absolutely stunning. We know that the owners spent a lot of time and worked extremely hard to get this result. And like it wasn’t enough... every year there is something new!! The appex of my joy was when a discovered the big chess game next to the pool.. Second, It is extremly well looked after. The rooms, the pool, the tennis court and the garden are immaculate. Third, the surroundings... it is very hard to get bored of the french countryside, the food, the people,etc. Last but not least, the view... no need to comment that!! There is not a shadow of a doubt la chenaie is the best cure against stress, routine or boredom. Have fun!! A

An amazing Property with so much to offer.

We stayed at this wonderful House in Doazon, from the first moment we were delighted. The owner, Yvonne, was only to happy to answer any questions and give advice. the whole process was very simple. we were met by Liz and ashley, the house managers whom were friendly and very helpful. The house and property exceeded our expectations, with its comfortable beds, great barbecue area, swimming pool and of course the tennis court. We enjoyed sitting in the various court yards, sitting and chatting. There were quiet places to read from the library provided, board games and videos available. We enjoyed many walks around the lake and visits to local villages for our morning croissants and baguettes. Our whole family had a great holiday and we are already planning our return. Jess B

Fantastic place to stay

The whole experience was a delight. Everything was neat, clean and well maintained including the pool, tennis court and the surrounding gardens. The house was fantastic and easily slept our friends and ourselves. The owner and the caretakers were very easy to deal with and always responsive to any questions. It is well priced and I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a great experience.

Authentic rural France

We enjoyed staying at the Lake House and will go again if we can. From the outset, our time here was simply wonderful. Yvonne was very easy to deal with, answered all our emails promptly and provided lots of information including things to do and places to see in the local area. We stayed with a large group of friends and found the amenity and the array of facilities fantastic. My wife and I were lucky enough to get the room above the games room with an ensuite (I think they all have ensuites), a view of the pool and lake and almost as much space as our apartment at home. The room was clean, beautifully presented and the bathroom was excellent. The facilities in the house suited our group of 6 couples splendidly with plenty of room for us all. Both the large indoor table and outdoor tables on the terrace or in the barbecue area served well for dining. The recreational facilities are extensive - we used all of the pool, tennis court, games room, chess set and garden and all were very well maintained. This is a house with plenty of character and spaces ideal for gathering together, although some of our friends disappeared only to be found in one nook or another with a book. Liz and Ashley (the couple that care-take the house) were friendly and helpful, and checked that we were ok for everything a few times during our stay. They speak both French and English well so language wasn’t a problem. We quickly found the local boulangerie and found the house to be close to market towns, the cities of Pau and Lourdes, which we visited, and we even went over to Biarritz one day, about an hours drive away. We also enjoyed evening walks around the lake and rambles through the local countryside. The facilities, feel and location of this house gave us a real chance to experience southern rural France, and it all met our expectations brilliantly.

Perfect house for large group of friends

We stayed at this property with a group of 4 other couples. It was perfect with plenty of room to be together or have breakout time on your own. The ensuite bathrooms really add to the feeling of privacy. The pool is in a great location and large enough for us all to have fun in. The tennis court, table tennis table and bbq had lots of use. The outdoor area is perfect for getting together but there is also an inside dining table that takes at least 10 people comfortably. Ashley and Liz are the local caretakers and were friendly and helpful. The owner responded promptly to our queries before we booked. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable time and will meet here again in the future.

A lovelly spacious, well equiped home in beautiful grounds with a nice size pool

Well equiped home in lovelly grounds. The furnishings inside gave a good feel to the house. Beds very comfortable. Pool was enjoyed by us all every day. Beautiful views over the lake from the main bedroom and the terrace. Large comfortable room on the ground floor almost pool side to "chill" in. Large dinning table in main area would take over a dozen people. Nice BBQ area with a large Gas BBQ. In the evenin walk around the lake in an hour, at a leisurely pace, or play table tennis in the barn, or tennis on the court. Or be like me - sit with a "nice bottle of red" and take the in evening air from the terrace.

Beautiful location, house not as expected

The promise that the house was clean and the maidservice wheren't there. No clean towels, dirty swimming pool, hornets nests, flying ants where not attended by the caretaker. We had to call when the swimmingpool was milky colour. The kids had painfull eyes. The barbeque was greasy and not clean. Flussing the toilets on the second floor, gives a problem on the first floor. It seemes it flushes from one to the other toilet. We contacted the owners but until now no responce. The place itself is beautiful and so are it's surroundings.

A fantastic house in a very lovely part of southern France.

My husband and I, our two children with spouses and our 4 grandchildren, ages 3, 6, 7 and 9, spent a week in this wonderful house. Everybody loved every moment of our stay - even the rainy day! The pool area is really nice with a lot of space around it. And the view from the terrace out over the lake is absolutely lovely - especially a quiet while there in the early morning and in the evening is highly recommendable. The house is very well equipped - the only thing we really missed, was an ordinary coffee machine😊 In the area there are good possibilities to do a bit of sightseeing - particularly we can recommend a walk in Les Gorges de Kakuetta, which we found quite spectacular.

Home from Home plus much more

From the off this has been a completely positive experience. Yvonne (the owner) was quick and extremely helpful with her responses from the enquiry point to booking to sending out details about the property for arrival. Made it a hassle free process. The house......where do I start its amazing. Everything you could need in the house. Beautifully furnished, amazing amount of space and all the facilities that you could need for a holiday away. The pool is a brilliant size for everybody....you couldn't get the kids out of it. The New tennis court is a brilliant addition. We all love tennis so it was great that it was on the doorstep...literally. And a bit of ping pong for the kids whilst we sat and chilled with a glass of wine. PERFECT Liz and Ashley who manage the property where brilliant also. Very attentive with a few queries we had and couldn't sort them quick enough. The location is just stunning. A pleasant 45 min walk around the lake if you feel the need. and a short drive to supermarket to restock. With Lourdes and Pau within easy reach. The house has heaps of space so you can spend time with everyone, but equally you can have time out as the house is so spread out. Chill Out in the TV room, on one (the many) patios or just watch what's going on from the terrace. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We had gorgeous weather, good company and a Fabulous Holiday. We will be back. Thanks to all

Beautiful property in a picturesque location

We were a large family group the property had plenty of space so everyone could enjoy doing their own thing. The large downstairs lounge was a bonus and the tennis court fantastic. We would definitely recommend the property to our friends. The owners were really helpful in replying to any queries we had.

Amazing French Retreat

We chose this house as a base to meet friends and family from around the world. The house is large, extremely clean, well maintained (loved the ensuite bathrooms) and had been recently refurbished which catered perfectly for our large group. We spent a lot of our days relaxing around the magnificent pool, sampling good French wine and enjoying the great bbq facilities for both lunch and dinners. Pau is nearest large city, which is about 25 mins by car and we spent some time visiting the shops and local restaurants. We used the house as a great base for visiting the Pyrenees, Bordeaux and also San Sebastian in Spain. Some of our group enjoyed a game of golf at Pau Golf Club. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here as there is plenty to do nearby. We will definitely be back sometime in the future.

Perfect French getaway

As a large family group with four small children it was proving difficult to find a property that fulfilled all our holiday needs but we really struck gold with this house! We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children under 3 yrs and stayed here for two weeks, it was large enough to give everyone their own space and the covered outdoor BBQ area is perfect for getting together in the evening. The pool and garden are fantastic and it was a shame that we were only there for two weeks. We were so lucky with the weather and it was lovely exploring the local area (hire car is a must). I would thoroughly recommend La Chenaie, the owners are great for any queries the location is perfect for a laid back, French vacation.

La Chênaie- piece of heaven in the South of France

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place for your holiday, "La chênaie" will perfectly suit your needs. Every year, I cherish the moment when I can relax and enjoy a glass of wine with my friends on the terrace with the lake view. The owners have done an impressive amount of work to make it very confortable. Concerning the activities, everything is within an hour of road (Biarritz and the beaches, The Pyrenees and the mountains, the famous french vineyards,etc. ). In my opinion, a week in "La Chênaie" is the best way to get some rest and share quality moment with friends and family.

We are an Australian couple who currently work in Singapore. We have four adult children and have bought this house as part of our long term retirement plan.

We look forward to welcoming friends and family to this wonderful part of France, so close to the Pyrenees, Pau, Biarritz and of course Spain.

The house itself is so relaxing and the view over the lake on a summer evening is superb.

We have spent a lot of time and energy repainting the house and renewing all of the landscaping. It is a pleasure to stay there.

The Pyrenees Atlantique is an amazing part of France; it is much less commercialized than south East France and still holds much of the local traditions and character.

With the coast and mountains so close; you can experience so much and the food and wine is simply divine.

This house is ideal for families, groups of adults and people of all ages. It feels resort within a peaceful rural setting. There are plenty of options for both adults and children to entertain themselves. A great holiday for everyone!

With the famous wine regions so close and the local cheese / Aquitaine meats on the door step; eating and drinking is such a pleasure.

There are many local markets and festivals which are wonderful to experience.

The mountains are breath taking both in the summer and winter. The coast line too is magnificent with sheltered bays as well as more 'surfing' beaches.
