Hale Alealea Beach House with air conditioning is one house back from Kepuhi Beach. This home is situated on a large, private street-to-street lot in Haena's prime neighborhood made up of unique, well manicured beach front/adjacent homes. Our 15000 square foot yard is fully fenced, and mature plumeria trees grace the entrance to the house.

The professionally landscaped garden is full of flowering tropical plants, swaying coconut palms and banana trees. The beach is easily accessed by several walking easements, just a moment's stroll from the house along our gravel lane. Tunnels beach is only a 15-minute walk away. This house was fully renovated in 2014.

This bright and airy home offers two queen bedroom suites, plus two additional bedrooms with two twin beds each, making it a great house for one or two families or a vacation shared by friends. The main level of the house is upstairs and enjoys leafy framed views of the ocean and the trade breezes.

The kitchen is modern and fully appointed. The spacious wrap-around lanai features a gas grill and provides plenty of additional dining and lounging space.

At Kepuhi Beach, look to the left to see the kite boarders setting up at the point. You will love watching their colorful kites and daring acrobatics in the surf. To the right, find a calm lagoon with spectacular snorkeling and shelling. Continue your stroll to find the nearby Hanalei Colony Resort for morning coffee, or the terrific Opakapaka Grill and Bar for a sunset cocktail or a beachside massage at the Hanalei Day Spa.

Features of Hale Alealea: Four Bedrooms, two with queen size beds, and two with two twin beds each. Wireless high speed internet access. Spacious indoor and outdoor living areas for relaxing and entertaining. Expansive lanai with gas grill for seamless indoor-outdoor dining and lounging.

Haena is one of Kauai's true tropical treasures. Down the beach is Tunnels where the reefs are home to a variety of tropical fish and green sea turtles. There is seasonal whale-watching from shore and great surfing. At Hale Alealea, you are a short distance from Ke'e beach and the epic Na Pali Coast.

You are a scenic 10-minute drive from historic Hanalei Village where you will find a wide variety of terrific restaurants and unique boutiques for shopping. You can make plans for any Kauai adventure in Hanalei. A 15-minute drive will have you in Princeville with its world-class golf courses, 5-star spa, horseback riding, zip-line tours and so much more.

The stay was great overall the pros sure outweigh any cons. The place was tidy and well cared for. It is a slightly older place so age showed in some places. But they did a good job keeping it clean and the personal touches are cute. Pro’s - Communication, Location, ease of accessCons- big home being built that blocks the ocean view & spiders in downstairs bathroom. (Totally get we are in a tropical place.) We had a great time. Thank you!

Can’t get much better

Steps away from beach access. Short drive/walk to tunnels and Haena beaches as well as Haena state park. Amazing patios and outdoor space. We’ll equipped kitchen. Hosts provide beach chairs and cooler. Would highly recommend.

Fun Hawaiian get away

Our family of 7 had a wonderful time. The four bedrooms were perfect and having three bathrooms was a bonus. The house was well stocked with soaps and towels for the bathrooms and the kitchen had everything we needed, plus little extras like coffee, tea, basic spices. The short walk to the beach was fantastic for those evening sunsets. The yard was very private. Everyone in our party enjoyed our stay.

Hale Alealea

We enjoyed the location and the accommodations were adequate. The kitchen was good for food preparation with decent appliances. On the downside, the place needs a deep cleaning, the beds and furniture need upgrades. One sofa was visibly old and soiled. No one would sit on it. Fortunately, the management team arrived the day we left with contractors and a long to-do list. Perhaps future guests will enjoy these improvements.

A Great Island Base!

5 of us had a great time at this Kauai house. It is clean, comfortable and spacious, especially including 3 bathrooms and an outdoor shower. Ceiling fans, extensive windows, and cool ocean breezes keep it comfortable without a/c. House has a fantastic wrap around porch with a large outdoor dining table and grill. It sits just across the street from the beach and there’s a public beach access just steps away, plus the house is equipped with high quality beach chairs and umbrellas for guest use. When we did need some help, the prop manager responded very quickly. If you’re comfortable staying a little off the beaten path, this is a great spot. The roosters start at 4 am, just plan accordingly!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I booked this house for my family and friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house was perfect to accommodate our size and needs. We had an infant and toddler and it was great! Plenty of space to run around and not too many things I was concerned with for baby proofing. We all had our own bathrooms and space which was nice. The house came equipped with beach towels, chairs, an umbrella and coolers. The washer and dryer were great and we used them daily. The location is of course perfect. Just steps from some of the best snorkeling on Kauai. Evenings were spent on the lanai and late at night the star gazing was out of this world. It’s such a magical place. I hope to have another chance to come back again.

My only comments and feedback are around some pieces of furniture - couches and dressers that seemed actually dirty and in rough shape for a nice house (orange couch in living room facing TV felt gross to sit on, dresser in two bedrooms was broken). If you were to replace a few of these dingier pieces of furniture and improve in house cleaning a bit, it would be really nice. I might also offer cleaning during the week for an additional price. We didn't have great weather but that's no one's fault.

Best vacation house EVER!

My husband and another couple have been vacationing on Kaua'i together since 2003. We love Haena because of its neighborhood feel and because of its proximity to Tunnels and Kepuhi beach. The place we used to stay became too expensive and a friend recommended Hale Alealea. When we arrived we were immediately enchanted by the large common area, open kitchen, and two large en suite bedrooms. The lanai faces the ocean and is delightfully breezy and comfortable. We enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset, and we met and became friendly with the people who own the house across the street. They allowed us to cross their property so we could walk directly to the beach morning and evening, and invited us for pupus towards the end of our stay. It's great to be able to walk to Tunnels, but Kepuhi is our favorite beach because the coral is still very much alive and there's plenty of sea life to see. The house is very comfortable and so relaxing--we found it very easy to spend a lot of time there. We hope to return very soon!

Great house and location

The trip was amazing! The house was just what we were looking for, a home base that was comfortable, clean and well maintained. Everything worked as expected, many of the features added to the house were geared towards our activities. Outdoor shower with warm water, gas grill, large refrigerator, pots and pans, hair driers, towels for shower and beach, high-capacity laundry, beach chairs, umbrella they were all greatly appreciated. The garden throughout the property provided privacy, and the porches were very spacious.The Kepuhi Beach was just a short walk from the house, it's not really a swimming beach, but we enjoyed it all the same. Plus, it was a short walk to Tunnels Beach etc... sunrises and evening walks were also fantastic. We had full moons the first couple of days, and we stayed long enough to see the milky way as well. The Northshore was our favorite area by far. Hanalei was our favorite town, Big Save Market had everything that we needed, and Princeville is just down a little more. We loved the scenery, the one lane bridges, it all just seemed to be old school which is what we were looking for. As you can tell we loved the location... we did some excursions on the east and south coasts as well, but nothing seems as Hawaiian as the NorthShore. This house is really close to the Ha'ena State Park and Beach, and it is a beautiful area and is less populated.We would highly recommend this location!

Great location; but home itself did not meet expectations

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were disappointed in the condition of the home. The location was lovely. Everything needs help and updating. When we arrived the downstairs shower had 2 old bandaids laying on the floor. Lighting is poor throughout , especially in the bedroom on the lower level. Furniture is crummy and our mattress poor. . Dishes and glassware are total random. The kitchen garbage disposal had random items in it that we had to remove. The outdoor furniture / cushions are old and in terrible shape. All the bathrooms need refurbishment. Toilet downstairs does not flush well and There are no ceiling fans in any of the 3 bathrooms. Finally there is a roof fan on the main floor that is VERY loud and turns on when at sunrise.I am sorry but for the money we paid we expected much better.

Loud roosters around house every morning 4 AM

Beware of the roosters! We were aware that Kauai has some rooster issues but this was ridiculous. The first night here a rooster woke us up at 3:30 AM and he did not stop until 7 AM. I tried to find it and get rid of it but there are very thick hedges around this house, it could not be seen, and just throwing something in the general direction does not work. I found out that you need a direct hit to scare the roosters off. I called the owner more than once and she was pleasant but made it sound like we were the first to have this problem. We even thought of leaving this location after a couple nights of this but did not think we could get our money back and maybe it would get better. No such luck. Ear plugs do not stand a chance to this and the thin single paned windows in the house don't help either. We stayed in Poipu the first half of our trip and did not hear any roosters and rarely saw any. I learned that they are controlled much better in the Poipu area. I contacted the owners again and asked for some compensation for our troubles and lack of sleep. My main beef with them was the lack of disclosure that this has been an ongoing problem. We read the guest book in their house and found several comments about the loud, early roosters. The owner husband, an attorney, said disclosure is not necessary & how can he prevent such a problem, just like he can't prevent me from getting sunburn or stung by a jelly fish. I advised him at how silly that comment was. He did end up refunding 2 of our 6 nights, which was reasonable. Just to be fair, there were positives about this location. It is close to Tunnels for good snorkeling and close to the Napali coast for nice hiking. This would be a nice place to stay and in a nice location, if it weren't for the roosters. My main objective here is to help others avoid having their vacation ruined by lack of sleep and having no way to solve it while they are there. The locals shoot the roosters with pellet guns, but there are so many that if someone were to have come out and shoot the one in the hedge from the first night, another is just around the corner. They hang out in an empty lot just on the other side of their neighbor. If our family visits the north shore again, we will be very careful where to stay.

It is hereby disclosed: Kauai has lots of roosters! Kauai's north shore is very different from the commercialized hotel areas of Hawaii, like Oahu's Waikiki, Maui's Ka'anapali, or even Kauai's Poipu. The north shore of Kauai is very rural with little in the way of buildings, roads, cars, streetlights and cityscape. The Kuhio Highway is actually a simple country road with a number of single lane bridges you must use to cross the many rivers and streams. Ha'ena in particular provides an authentic country setting with lots of wildlife, birds, horses, and yes, even chickens and roosters. It was unfortunate that this guest was so irked by them, and if you are concerned about them, then perhaps the rural countryside of Kauai’s north shore is not for you!

We had an infant and toddler and it was great! Plenty of space to run around and not too many things I was concerned with for baby proofing. We all had our own bathrooms and space which was nice. The house came equipped with beach towels, chairs, an umbrella and coolers. The washer and dryer were great and we used them daily. The location is of course perfect. Just steps from some of the best snorkeling on Kauai. Evenings were spent on the lanai and late at night the star gazing was out of this world. It’s such a magical place. I hope to have another chance to come back again.

Wonderful home in heavenly location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We absolutely loved staying at Hale Alealea! The home was clean, welcoming and very comfortable. The grounds were lush and well cared for. We felt tucked away into our own private paradise. Check in/check out was super easy and we were well taken care of. Highlights: The wrap-around porch was perfect for meals and relaxing. The home is charmingly decorated and has an authentic Hawaiian feel. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes/tools. We loved the outside shower and bbq. The home provided plenty of linens, bathroom supplies and beach towels. Proximity to Tunnels Beach was so special and we also loved walking across the street to the local shoreline, even though it wasn't suitable for swimming. The location is remote but that provides a lot of privacy and we enjoyed exploring the immediate area. The Waipa farmers market was really special! Lowlights: A few things are a little rundown - the knob on the oven didn't work properly (you could tell it had been recently glued on) so we couldn't use the oven. But we were able to use the toaster oven so it wasn't a big enough deal to complain. One couch is very dirty and soiled so they have spread an old bed sheet over it. Seems like they should invest in a couch cover or some clean furniture. The listing didn't tell us that beach chairs, umbrellas and a cooler were provided, so we wasted money renting them from our car provider. This location is pretty remote so be prepared for lots of driving if you plan to explore the island. All that said, we truly did have a lovely time at Hale Alealea and would stay there again in a hearbeat! Mahalo for sharing this charming home with my family. Aloha!
