Lavender Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms

A traditional bijou cottage, perfectly positioned in the heart of the Arreton Valley on the Isle of Wight. Refurbished to a high standard, the three cosy bedrooms can accommodate up to five people and it is perfect countryside retreat with two pubs and a farm-shop just steps away from the door.

The cottage dates from the 18th century and many of the original features remain intact today. It has a feature fireplace in the living room and exposed beams throughout. Please note that this is a very old cottage and it is furnished as such and we would suggest not suitable for guests wishing to have five star hotel fixtures or disabled visitors.

The cottage is ideal for couples and friends, short breaks and holidays. Great for walkers, guests with pets and cyclists as there are some lovely walks and rides in the local area. Opposite is a 12th century Church and direct access to country walking routes across the picturesque Brading Downs.

Just a few doors away you will find two pubs, both serving local food and drink, The Dairyman's Daughter of Arreton Barns, the Island's largest centre for arts and crafts and The White Lion.
Visitors will not be disappointed with this warm, cosy and quiet sanctuary set amidst the historic scenery of the Valley.

The whole cottage and its garden with reserved parking is situated in Arreton Barns.

DOGS PERMITTED AT AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF GBP35.00 PER DOG PER WEEK - MAX 2 ( downstairs only and not in the bedrooms )

Great location

This was a great location, close to some lovely walks and short car drive from the beach. Key pick up from the gift shop was fine & the maintenance man was really friendly & helpful showing us round etc. The cottage has mostly everything you need, although for us a small freezer compartment would have been helpful to refreeze our ice packs when heading for a day at the beach. Unfortunately, we found the mattresses on the beds old & the metal springs could be felt. Also the sofas are also quite saggy. If these things were remedied, we would be happy to stay here again.

Beautiful cottage. Well maintained. Clean and in wonderful location. Dog friendly.

We had a wonderful holiday. This was our firdt holiday in 3 years since my partner terminal cancer prognoises. We certainly made memories. Cottage was clean and well equiped, lovely enclosed garden with dappled shade from its trees. easy acess and lovely location. Its location made it easy to access the whole island, great for exploring difffent beaches and villages. Great walks for taking our dog right on the doorstep. Added extra was being on the righ nwxt to Arreton Barns. And two pubs serving great food, and wonderful little shops. Will be going back next year. All staff and grounds persons were friendly and welcoming making our stay extra special.

My memory trip home to the Island.

I was on a special break with my daughter Julia and her husband Sean as I have mobility problems I had not been home for two years. We visited Ventnor where I was born and Bonchurch where we had lived. Met my cousins. And toured the Island. Lavender Cotttage was perfect cosy, clean comfortable and well maintained.thank you.

Fantastic stay

Property was clean and fresh. It's a lovely quaint cottage with all mod cons. Loved listening to the ducks in the evening and in morning. The only downside is there isn't a corner shop nearby for any last minute or forgotten items. There is however an Aldi and Morrisons not far by bus with stops outside so ideal if you don't drive. Would highly recommend and will be booking again. Thank you xx

A week’s stay

My husband and I stayed a week in this cottage. We had a lovely time. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The garden was perfect for both us and our dog, a springer spaniel. It might be a little tight for space if five people stayed, though. There was a lovely walk straight from the cottage door, which went up to a nature reserve. On our last night we had a meal in the pub at the corner of the road (can’t remember its name), which was delicious. I would recommend both the cottage and the pub.

Dog friendly

This was a last minuet booking booking with two dogs and four adults. The location was excellent next door to the pub Dairymans Daughter who are very friendly and do excellent food with the bonus of 10% off if you are staying in Lavender cottage , but do tell them when going to the bar !!. There are Arreton Barns around the pub which are small individual units selling sweets , blown glass object,doggie things , leather goods and much much more . As for dog walks couldnt have been better .... the downs within walking distance , fields , lanes all secure for off lead runs !! our two had the time of their lives. Position central to the Island and tourist places all within half an hour. Would recommend , it has an enclosed back garden and designated parking space. Compact and bijou.

Our stay lavender cottage

I’ve stayed at many properties, and this one is good to look at as it is so old, but the comfort is not so good. The house is ideal as being so close to the manor. We stayed here for my daughter’s wedding, with my sister's husband upstairs and my family downstairs, The problems I had were the side gate open, and the shower not easy to use. The shower head small water goes on to window may be a curtain up, The beds are cricked, single not comfortable bedding cheap, need nice large towels, no welcome pack milk bread butter etc as there no shops near? There is tea coffee sugar The garden lovely but no relaxing chairs. Blind up at the back door window, The ducks are great. This house is clean just needs a few bits upgraded to make it more comfortable. Also, need to cover the water drain by the chair's table my grandson fell in it a few times you can get a plastic covering to go around. Some fly screens over windows upstairs to stop mosquitoes, as we were bitten.

As always an enjoyable stay at Lavender Cottage. Already planning our next trip will check for events this time though as we missed a couple that we would have liked to attend. Highly recommend and sing the praises of both the cottage and Arreton Barns.

EXCELLENT

Very good communication and friendly welcome. We stayed for 6 nights, couldn't have asked for a better place. Two pubs within yards of cottage, both with good food...no noise. Lovely farm shop a mile down the road. Ideal location to explore the Island. Would recommend it for a peaceful relaxing break.

Excellent location shame about the beds

Cottage is in an excellent location and was spotlessly clean with good amenities. I would love to stay here again but as mentioned in previous reviews the mattresses are poor quality and the worst I have ever slept on. I had hoped that as others had mentioned the beds that they would have been replaced but sadly this was not the case which is a shame as we liked everything else

Perfect Island stay

Lavender Cottage is ideally situated in the centre of the island, making it easy to explore. It’s very well equipped & comfortable. We loved having the toilet off the master bedroom upstairs, saving night time journeys downstairs! Also loved the other toilet being separate to the bathroom. The car park at the rear is locked in the evening, but there’s plenty of parking in Pump Lane at the front of the house, so it was no problem. To be honest, I think the photos & description of the cottage don’t do it justice - it’s really lovely! We had breakfast in The Dairyman’s Daughter next door in Arreton Barns, which was a great start to every day. There’s a well-stocked farm shop 20m away so you don’t need to bring much food from home.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Island, the cottage was comfortable, clean and warm and enabled us to travel around the lsland visiting different place. Would absolutely recommend this cottage as a place to stay.

Lovely location, uncomfortable cottage.

The cottage is in a lovely situation but unfortunately the beds are so uncomfortable in all three rooms that none of us had a good nights sleep. The ground floor double bedroom has a bed with a wooden frame which extends beyond the mattress and catches your knee as you go to bed. Also it is held together by wooden planks underneath. The mattresses on all 3 beds were thin, hard and very uncomfortable. The upstairs room is on a mezzanine floor and has no door, effectively making it part of the main living area, with the associated noise and lack of privacy. The kitchen is very basic - a small fridge and no freezer, 2 medium saucepans plus a frying pan. We had to purchase oven gloves, a cheese grater and dishcloths which we did leave for the next guests. I'm sure that this cottage would be OK for a couple who don't mind an uncomfortable bed and want to eat out, but for our 3 generation family (grandson, daughter & son-in-law, grandparents) this was really not suitable and we were disappointed after paying nearly £2000 for the week including the ferry and fuel from home. On the plus side, we did like the location, and the cottage was very clean with a comfortable seating area and large garden.

Lavender cottage Arreton isle of wight

We found the cottage very comfortable and well equipped. However although it is equipped for 5 people there was only the 2 of us and I think it would feel a bit cramped with 5 adults. Maybe a family of 4 would be fine. It was in a lovely location and the on site shops especially the farm shop were a bonus.There are 2 pubs locally but due to staff shortage one only did lunch and the other stopped serving meals at 4pm.We found it very convenient for touring the island and you can drive to most places in 20 minutes. Also lots of footpaths and beautiful walks. On arrival we found milk in the fridge and tea ,coffee etc plus some lovely local fudge ! Overall a lovely stay with no major problems.

Never stay there again

We were net at the front door by cobwebs all in the porch on entering it was very dark brown door dark brown ceiling black fireplace dark brown sofas a slope between the lounge area and kitchen in which my husband trip several times once carrying a tray of glasses which finished smashing on the floor which we replaced Then the bedrooms no wardrobes in the bedroom downstairs hooks in the passage way A bed that at the end stuck out and you had little space between the wall and bed you hit your leg each time while going to the bathroom during the night the windows at the back had not been cleaned for months and cobwebs outside I will say it was clean inside and the kitchen was fine although no freezer box in the fridge Then came the sleep the mattresses on the bed you could feel every spring we ended up buying a decent mattress topper to enable us to get some sleep everything just felt cheap but not cheerful on showering if someone went toilet or used the water in the kitchen the shower went cold On return we contacted the booking agents whom replied and sent our comments to the owner and up to date the owner has not had the decency to even reply I plan to take this further money needs spending on this cottage and I f 5 people was to be there goodness knows where your cases would go Then there is a parking area but the gate s locked at night so should you have an emergency you could not get out we parked in the car park to the school On a positive the location is excellent

Feedback

No heater in third bedroom. Beds not comfortable. Only five mugs so always having to wash these up. Daughter was bitten in the upstairs bedroom. No cushions on the settees but this may be Covid related? Expensive to rent.

lovely cottage

this is a lovely cottage ideally placed for easy access to the whole island. the local pub is great for food and just down the road you have the hare and hounds one way and the fighting cocks the other

Cosy, delightful, all we could wish for

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Lavender Cottage on the Isle of Wight. We took our two girls aged 15 and 11. We all enjoyed it. We had 2 very good pub restaurants to choose from each day to eat, The Dairyman's Daughter and The White Lion , food was excellent in both establishments and we got an extra 10% off at TDD for staying at the cottage. Highly recommend

Adorable cottage in excellent location. Beautiful country walks on the doorstep.

Central to everything on the island and on the edge of the grounds of Arreton Barns, Lavender Cottage has everything you could possibly need, The large garden was perfect as we took our spaniel. There are stunning walks right on the doorstep. It was great for us with the dog as The Dairymans Daughter pub is dog friendly (as is almost anywhere on the island). The cottage can sleep five which would be fine in good weather when you are out and about most of the day but a little tight if you plan on spending a lot of time inside (but why would you with so much to do on your doorstep?). We loved our stay and would definitely stay at Lavender Cottage next time we visit.
