Distances and things to do:
- The Pieterpad (the most famous hiking trail in the Netherlands and one of the longest) is a 1-minute walk away. The park is right across from the Pieterpad.
- The Hanseatic village of Doesburg is about a 20-minute drive away, and the Hanseatic city of Zutphen is a 30-minute drive away.
- The oldest windmill in the Netherlands is located in Zeddam, a 20-minute drive away.
- Huis Bergh Castle in 's-Heerenberg (one of the largest castles in the Netherlands) is about a 25-minute drive away.
- In Montferland, you’ll find small and slightly larger picturesque villages (cycling and hiking routes are available online).
- Zelhem is a 5-minute drive away, where you can go grocery shopping and where there are various restaurants.
- It’s a 20-minute drive to the German border.
- The 8-castle route is a lot of fun to do.
The area has a lot to offer. Among other things, there’s nature and forests, as well as the hilly landscape of Montferland with its small and larger villages. Online, you can find beautiful cycling routes (for example: the 8-Castle Route).
Or visit various gardens, such as Tuin de Wiersse in Vorden or Arts Longa.
The Church of St. Willibrordus in Vierakker. Open on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons (from May through mid-September). There are guides who can answer any questions you may have. A visit to the “treasure trove” is also possible.
In Zelhem (the nearby village), you’ll find a supermarket, a shopping street, and a square with outdoor seating and restaurants.
Restaurants: We recommend Oldenschot and De Smoks. There are many restaurants around the hotel (in Zelhem, but also in Doetinchem, for example). If you’d like to dine at a castle, you can do that too: Engelenburg Castle in Brummen is about a half-hour drive from the hotel. If you enjoy fine dining, you can dine at Schultenhues in Zutphen (they have a Michelin star), about a half-hour drive away.
Enjoy the peace, space, nature, and privacy!
