Mellow Mountain Eco Retreat exclusive use with Tipi, wood burning Hot Tub, Sauna
Mellow Mountain Eco Retreat – Private Woodland Cottage, Tipi, Hot Tub & Sauna
Escape to your own private woodland retreat in the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, near Llangollen.
Mellow Mountain is a characterful 16th-century eco cottage set within approximately three acres of private woodland, combining historic Welsh charm with an unusual collection of outdoor experiences. The entire retreat is exclusively yours during your stay – ideal for family gatherings, celebrations, walking weekends and relaxed escapes with friends.
The cottage sleeps up to 10 within four bedrooms, with additional glamping accommodation in an 18ft Sioux-style tipi. Maximum occupancy across the retreat is 12 guests.
Your Private Woodland Retreat
Step outside and you'll find woodland paths, wildflowers, mature oak trees, secluded grassy areas and panoramic views across the Ceiriog Valley.
At the heart of the outdoor space is our large wood-fired hot tub, where you can soak beneath the trees and stars. There's also a wood-fired sauna, elevated yoga deck with beautiful valley views, woodland fire pit and a tucked-away BBQ area for long evenings cooking and eating outdoors.
The tipi sits in its own tranquil woodland setting and has a stove, creating a memorable glamping experience for guests who want to get even closer to nature.
A glass-roofed conservatory provides a wonderful communal dining space whatever the weather.
The Cottage
Dating back to the 16th century, the cottage has been restored with an emphasis on natural materials and traditional character.
Inside you'll find lime-plastered walls, exposed oak beams, natural stone and slate floors, solid-oak windows and doors, brass and oak beds and an open fire.
The house combines its historic character with eco-conscious heating and energy systems, including solar and wind-generated electricity, underfloor heating, eco radiators and wood-fired hot-water systems.
Bedrooms
Bedroom 1 – Elevated wooden double bunk with a double bed beneath, panoramic valley views, slate floor, lime walls, exposed oak beams, ensuite wet room and its own private entrance. Sleeps 3–4.
Bedroom 2 – Double brass bed with lime walls and a skylight looking into the trees – wonderful for watching the moon and stars from bed. Sleeps 2.
Bedroom 3 – Antique double brass bed with beautiful views across the valley. Sleeps 2.
Bedroom 4 – Double bedroom within a characterful converted stable. Sleeps 2.
Woodland Tipi – 18ft Sioux-style tipi with four camping beds available. Guests using the tipi should bring sleeping bags.
There is also a day bed in the lounge and a spare camp bed. Maximum occupancy for the entire retreat is 12 guests.
Bathrooms
The downstairs ensuite has a wet-room-style walk-in shower, brass basin and taps and a traditional Victorian-style high-level toilet.
Upstairs you'll find one of the cottage's most unusual features – a wet room incorporated into an old chimney breast, surrounded by stone walls and marble flooring.
Kitchen & Living
The kitchen includes a traditional wood-burning Rayburn, halogen hob, double electric oven, Belfast sink with brass taps, fridge and toaster.
Gather around the open fire in the cottage, dine beneath the glass roof of the conservatory or take dinner outside to the woodland BBQ and fire-pit areas.
Three Acres to Explore
Mellow Mountain is about spending time outdoors.
The retreat extends across approximately three acres of private woodland and gardens, with mature trees, seasonal bluebells, wildflowers, unusual shrubs and several peaceful areas to sit, explore or simply disappear into nature.
The elevated yoga deck enjoys far-reaching views and is equally suited to morning yoga, reading with a coffee or watching the evening light over the valley.
Hikers and walkers have wonderful countryside on the doorstep, while Llangollen and the surrounding Dee and Ceiriog valleys provide countless opportunities for walking, cycling and exploring North Wales.
And despite the secluded atmosphere, you're not cut off from civilisation.
The Swan Inn is approximately a five-minute walk away, while The Mulberry is around 15 minutes on foot, both offering excellent food.
An Experience, Not Just Somewhere to Sleep
Mellow Mountain is deliberately different from a conventional holiday cottage.
Light the sauna. Fire up the hot tub. Cook outside. Gather around the fire. Sleep beneath canvas. Walk through the woods. Have breakfast under glass and watch the stars from bed.
It's particularly suited to families and groups of friends looking for their own private place to reconnect, celebrate and enjoy the outdoors together.
Good to Know
All cottage bed linen is provided and changed between stays. Guests sleeping in the tipi should bring their own sleeping bags.
The hot tub and sauna are wood-fired and form part of the hands-on woodland experience. Wood deliveries can be arranged in advance, or guests are welcome to bring suitable firewood.
The property contains natural woodland, uneven ground, rough terrain and steep banks. It may therefore not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or particular accessibility requirements.
A refundable litter bond may be charged, as guests are required to leave the site clear of rubbish.
Check-in is from 4:00pm and check-out is by 10:00am.
Come for the cottage. Stay for the fires, forest, hot tub, sauna and stars.

Pontos positivos: Limpeza, check-in e localização
It's a beautiful property in a stunning location. Waking up in the trees was wonderful. We were a group of 12 staying for 3 nights. I'd say that it's best for 8 people max, maybe a couple of kids. The teepee is quite open to the elements and critters, sitting on a wooden deck. The car track damaged a couple of exhausts and the remaining walk up the hill was hard work. It took several wheelbarrow trips shifting the wood delivery and food for the weekend. We didn't bring cars half way for departure and walked to the road instead. There is only one small fridge which wasn't enough for the amount of guests. The hot tub took 8hrs to heat up and the sauna wasn't very hot, but relaxing enough. A 200 litter deposit was requested from me unexpectedly, long after booking. 1 week since leaving the place spotless, it hasn't been returned.

Not recommendable
It’s not worth the price we paid, we booked for 11 person but the bed can only accommodate 10 person that my son end up sleeping on the floor , upstrair toilet floor is leaking down to the kitchen, we emailed the host on the first day but no reply til we check out, So we have to share the the down floor toilet, the hot tub is dirty that we end up cleaning for us to be able to use, dusty and loads of cubweds in one of the bedroom downstairs.

Horrible experience - do not waste your money on this property!Dan was by far the worst host we’ve ever experienced - I would go as far as calling him a fraud. The property is NOT as described. Nowhere on the listing does it say that you have to heat the house with logs - Dan does not provide logs despite charging an arm and a leg for this rental. We had to spend hundreds extra just to keep warm. The hot tub takes longer than 6-8 hours to heat up (again waste of our money on logs) and when we told Dan about this his response wasn’t helpful - he told us to just use the sauna instead. So beware - you pay for the use of these items and despite paying even more to actually use them you can’t and there is no concern from the owner. The wifi doesn’t work well, the place was not clean (the carpet was revolting), the kitchen items to use to cook with were filthy and had black crust all over them, there is not enough room for everyone to sit in the living room despite it being advertised as somewhere that can accommodate up to 11 people. You can’t use the toilet after you shower because the entire bathroom floor is wet as the shower drain is next to the toilet. Our most serious concern was the fact that the youngest member of our party (12 year old boy) was the only one to drink the water from the tap and he was violently ill for 2 days following. Nothing in his diet differed from the rest of us other than him drinking the water which is supposed to be safe. When I emailed Dan abou

Holds a Special Memory
From booking to check-out, it has been a wonderful experience and we didn't want to leave! We're the "city" type of people so we had pre-arrival jitters. Dan, the host/owner, gave good instructions for arrival, and boy, what a fantastic stay it was!!It's a beautifully refurbished 1500's house (see the plaque at the house) with wifi, mains electric, heating, hot water, showers/toilets, modern cooker and under counter fridge.Want to reconnect to Mother Nature? This is YOUR retreat! Bring eco-friendly washing up liquid, toilet roll and shower gel as this runs into the ground water (toilets run into a septic tank). We made full use of the indian style Tipi, sleeping in at night and feeling close physically and spiritually to nature - comes with a wood burner. There's no TV, but won't be missed either We explored the local wood and foraged for twigs and branches to help with burning in the campfire and wood burning - axe is provided to chop your wood.We was a group of 9, adults and kids, so we got through alot of wood. You can bring your own, or Dan will provide a contact number for a local gentleman to deliver - and you get plenty for the cost! We paid 80 which provided a tonne bag, delivered to the "turnaround" spot. To power everything (Arga, Living Room fire place, hot tub, sauna, Tipi and Campfire) for 5 days, we needed 5 bags (brought ourselves) and the local delivery which left us with some spare logs for the next guests (you're welcome ).It's an absolutely beautiful house in an amazing hidden woodland. Please PLEASE, look after this house! Alot of love, sweat (literally), time and cost has gone into this. If you can't respect our environment, find a city hotel!Final Thoughts:- We came in a 17 seater minibus. Arrive in daylight hours.- Any vehicle larger than a family sized car, reverse up the access lane to drop off.- Pack light, or be prepared to make a couple of trips from the end of the lane up to the house (steep walk, so no high heels)! Access to the house is a walk up-hill. If you are heavily pregnant, mobility impaired, have problems breathing/severe heart conditions, it may be wise to seek other accommodation. However, the benefits of staying here far outweigh any negatives. Don't forget, it's easier to go down!- We will be coming back! - Pay attention to Dan's email welcome pack once paid.- Local wood delivery.- Away from civilisation - bliss!- Cart/wheel barrows provided - very useful!- WoRtH eVeRy PeNnY!

Hidden little gem!
We have just come back from 3 nights at mellow mountain and we all had a fantastic stay! Plenty to do for all ages, the children enjoyed it thoroughly. The hill is rather steep to get to the property but once you’re up there it is worth it. The property itself is ideal for family/group gatherings and equipped with everything you need. We used roughly 6 bags of woods between 9 of us, this heated the hot tub (took 6 hours), the sauna, camp fire, tipi and aga. Overall it was perfect and a bargain! Would definitely return.

Mellow mountains
This property was peacefully located but still within a good distance to the local village. A lovely outside area made for some great evenings enjoying food and the woodlands around. The campfire was a big hit with the younger ones being able to toast marshmellows. All in all the cottage made for a relaxing break.

A real hidden gem
Here's what our group said;
We were looking to get away from London and found Mellow Mountain to be the perfect hidden gem. The cottage is renovated to a high standard and you can star gaze through the conservatory roof or lie in bed and look at the moon through the skylights... the nature is amazing with Buzzards flying overhead and you can hear Owls at night. We were one of the first groups to try out the wood burning Sauna which is great as it heats up quicker than the hot tub and leaves you feeling fantastic. We will be returning in the Summer!

This is a beautiful part of Wales, the valleys and hills are stunning views from the cottage, the walks are great. Llangollen and Chirk are lovely; Pubs and shops not far away, you can walk to The Swan pub in 10 mins (take a torch though) good Wi-Fi... a retreat from daily life. You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy this place. Lots of things provided, little torches, cooking basics etc. The fire pit and tepee are great for kids and for being outside. The kids slept in the tepee and loved it. The price was really good for the number of people the site can hold.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
10 of us booked and what a fantastic weekend we had. The cottage was beautiful with great facilities for the group size and a wonderful setting. Secluded enough from the main village but close enough for a leisurely stroll to The Swan Inn (a lovely and very hospitable pub) and only 10 mins drive from Chirk where there's a great butchers, green grocers, bakers and Co-op etc. Fantastic views from the front terrace for morning coffees, a lovely camp fire area and the hot tub was a welcome treat for the end of the day. There's lovely walks in the area and one from the bottom of the drive. A fantastic find and excellent value for money. Dan (who we booked through) was really accommodating and helpful in the run up to our holiday aiding a weekend for 10 people to run very smoothly. Highly recommended, we'll certainly be booking again for another memorable weekend.
