Step into history at Piccolo, a charming miner’s cottage over 110 years old, nestled in quiet bushland on the northern side of Leura. Thoughtfully extended to blend traditional charm with modern conveniences, Piccolo now features four rooms and a bathroom, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay. Original timber walls, floors, and solid doors preserve the cottage’s unique character, while contemporary touches make it a true home away from home.

The property is lovely, very cosy and comfortable. We stayed in winter so naturally it was cold but the central heating was excellent as were the electric blankets! It’s less than 5 minutes drive to Leura town centre. A beautiful property

Michael was a great host to deal with. The cottage is warm and thoughtfully furnished and well located. The garden is secure for dogs. Overall it is very good value. There were a couple of minor drawbacks. Access to the cottage is up a steep flight of outdoor steps which were hard to navigate in the dark and rain. The lighting in the kitchen is very poor - the overhead light is not working and the lamp by the stove is very dim. We'd stay again if the kitchen lighting is fixed.

Property was exactly as described. Cosy and pet friendly. I wouldn't advise arriving in the dark as the steps up to the house are a bit dodgy in the dark. Otherwise it's a lovely cosy cottage in a great peaceful location.

Peaceful stay in old cottage. Some maintenance issues but absolutely lovely outlook & proximity to nature, including a bandicoot under the house, possums on the roof & king parrots in the trees.

Winter get away

Best 3 days enjoyed walking to Leura also bush walks in blackheath loved the house so comfortable & cosy at night with open fireplace 4th time will definitely be back again

Charming house with all that you need and more!

Really loved staying in this historic property. Enjoyed brunch on the front verandah, great cooking facilities, leafy garden and outlook and cosy open fire. Did not want to leave. Thanks for everything.

quaint cottage

Very quaint cottage nestled amongst tall gum trees. Lovely sitting on the verandah listening to the birds. My dog loved having a big garden to explore.

Cute cottage and well equipped

I spent a few days at the cottage with 2 kids and enjoyed our stay. It is well equipped and feels homely. As a light sleeper, I unfortunately heard trucks most nights on the highway- the kids didn’t hear a thing.

Cozy Cottage

Piccolo presents as it is explained. It is very comfortable for two people, the bed was very good and the kitchen is well stocked with all you need to self-cater. Michael also provided lots of helpful hints about what to do and where to eat. We would certainly return.

Relaxing quaint mountain cottage

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend at Piccolo in the Blue Mountains. Quaint historic cottage which was very comfortable. Our dog Max enjoyed the bush garden and all the smells it had. It was a dog proof garden although probably not for very small dogs - Max is a medium size dog - Brittany Spaniel.

Lovely unique property

This is a cute property with lovely decoration throughout. The property was very clean and the bed was super comfortable! Michael, the property manager, was very friendly and offered information about places to go to help plan our trip. The steps up to the property from the road may not be good for older people or dogs who have issues with mobility.

Comfy, cute cottage

Piccolo is a very comfortable cottage. Great kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal. Enjoyed the fire. Steps to the cottage are a little awkward when you get to the top but good incentive to stay indoors. Only comment would be no electric blanket - would have been nice on a cold weekend.

Thanks for your great review The electric blanket has now been added back into the house after it has been requested a couple of times. And the steps will be renovated once it warms up in October.

Charming Cottage - Garden Neglected

Cottage was adequate for our needs, however, out of the 4 dinner plates, 2 were cracked and unusable. The Hair Dryer had fallen behind the Clothes dryer but was retrievable and able to be used OK. A curtain would be ideal in the Bathroom. Otherwise the Cottage was warm and cosy with plenty of books, 2 jigsaw puzzles, DVD's and CD's (but nothing to use them on) and pots and pans, etc, for cooking. The Garden needed a general clean up with some plants in need of a trim and the grass mowed. A hand-rail on the concrete steps. would be ideal as they were difficult to manoeuvre especially at night when the outdoor light only stayed on for 30 seconds. As it was raining most of the time during our stay our dog was kept indoors, but even if it had been dry the condition of the yard would have restricted his movements. Basically, the garden was not as well kept as what it looked like in the advertising photos. Perhaps the winter month's weather had prevented the owner from doing garden maintenance and it will, no doubt, be attended to for the summer. The Cottage is lovely and in a nice quiet area with easy driving access to Leura and Kootoomba.

Thanks for your review. I wish you had let me know about the plates when I came halfway through your stay (to deal with the tree on the power line due to high winds), I did ask if everything was ok, I have spare dinnerware in storage for these sorts of issues. And I agree the garden isn't in great condition, the amount of rain we have makes it difficult to plan maintenance between guests. I mowed the lawn on Friday 14 Oct, and we have blocked the house so we can do further garden maintenance the weekend of 11 November come rain, hail or shine!! Michael

We spend 10 years living in Bondi and work in Sydney because The Blue Mountains were just a bit far to commute from every day. But we finally made to move to permanently live in the Blue Mountains.

Since I grew up in countryside England I need the escape from the city.
We saw Piccolo in 2010 and both Holly and I knew we needed to buy it to rest and relax from the pressure of city live.

I'm sure there are many of you that feel the same and we hope you enjoy our little mountain getaway.

This was the second miner cottage we looked at, The first sold on the day we enquired. I have always worked in travel and knew a property like this would work well in the mountains.

It was bought for love (I know you should never buy property for love) but we thought why not. And we couldn't afford to buy where we wanted to live in Sydney.

Final 6 years late after visiting the mountains mouthly we took another jump and moved to Katoomba.

It's was built in about 1905 and retains all its character with squeaky floorboards but we have added all the mod cons and given it character with mid-century furniture.
