Escape the heat - come to cool Carmel!

Welcome to Villa Maré, a beautiful 8-year old Italian style home with view of Carmel Mission, Carmel Bay, and Santa Lucia Mountains.

The home accommodates 3 couples comfortably, plus one single for a total of 7 people. Please note that all guests sleeping in the middle floor share one bathroom.

We want you to know that we have Ring doorbells at the front and back doors. Vaughn monitors them on his cell phone. There are 3 smart TV's in guest areas. There are no other sensing or recording devices in the guest space.
We have a motion detector at the bottom of the driveway. It gives a sound signal in our personal area.

You will enjoy large decks and modern amenities including an elevator. Located on a quiet road near Mission Trails Park...stroll into charming and artful Carmel-by-the-Sea in 15 minutes. One half acre of beautiful gardens and fountains provide soothing relaxation. You are minutes from everything. This extraordinary home will be a vacation unto itself. Enjoy a visit to Italy without jet lag.

This is the dreamiest location. A beautiful walk through a lovely park area setting to get to downtown Carmel. Clean quiet dreamy area to stay in. We got to meet the owners and they were very sweet and helpful as well.!

The trail area nearby was a great morning walk I used everyday. We cooked most evenings and the kitchen was well prepared.The space is an extremely pleasant place to hang out with family. There is both a wow factor and great comfort, which is rare.The elevator was very handy as well.

Pat and Vaughan were awesome hosts. Great effective communication. The property inside and out was like an Italian Villa from Florence. The home was well appointed with all the amenities plus some nice food and beverages. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Carmel. 6 stars.

Really outstanding property. I cannot imagine anyone not loving it. This is the second time we stayed here. The first was four years ago with the same six (total) people. Very well appointed, beautiful, and very very spacious for the six adults staying here.And it is extremely pleasant to work from here on your laptop, great wifi. Location and view from upper level balcony are superb.The hosts, Pat and Vaughn are the best. Extremely flexible and accommodating, they are so helpful for anything you need during your stay. Really unique in so far as rentals go.We just love the place and hope to return.

Hosts were next level - from clear communication, unexpected food/drink provisioning, umbrellas on hand for our spring weather, and checking in to see if all was ok or if questions. The view from the top living area was beautiful - looking out over the mission and bay towards Point Lobos. Place was peaceful with an extensive garden. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing visit! Pat and Vaughn have been the best hosts I have experienced since renting with VRBO. They went above and beyond to make sure that my family enjoyed our stay. The location is great! You can access all that Carmel has to offer by taking a quick drive or a scenic walk. We will definitely return!

Incredible views and wonderful living/kitchen area

My sisters, our daughters and my mom rented this house to celebrate her 80th birthday. The seven of us had a wonderful time. Vaughn and Pat were very responsive hosts, and we loved all the welcoming touches the house had with coffee, snacks and wine. Our stay started off rocky due to an Alaska Airlines IT outage that delayed our arrival by a day, and Vaughn and Pat were very accommodating and offered us an extra day. Their quick communication made our stressful travel a bit easier. Also, the pictures don't do the view from the living room of the ocean justice! It was an easy drive to downtown Carmel. We'd definitely stay again.

Great view, lovely property

Wonderful stay at Villa Mare!

Pat and Vaughn were gracious hosts and welcomed us with treats and a lovely note. The house was beautiful and spotlessly clean. We loved sitting on the outdoor balcony and watching the sun set over Carmel Bay. We had a great time!

50th wedding anniversary

The property was in superb condition on arrival and met all of our expectations. We honestly didn’t know what to expect because all arrangements were made via the internet. We found the owners, Vaughn and Pat to be friendly and accommodating. We were very pleased with our stay and we highly recommend this venue.

Can’t be beaten

Could not have asked for a better holiday. The house was fantastic. The location even better. Ongoing dialogue with the owners was great. The property included everything we needed and you are very close to town to the extent you need something else. We really enjoyed our time there with our family.

Carmel- by- the Sea

Wonderful house in a tremendous location. Although accurate the pictures don’t truly show how nice this house is. The house is spacious, and very well thought out with rooms that flow from one area to the next. The fact that you could walk to downtown Carmel on the nearby trail made the house even better.

Al and family were gracious guests and a pleasure to have here - and I must say especially gracious about a problem with the refrigerator dribbling water on the floor. We discovered later that it was due to icing-up of an internal drain system - a maintenance problem. Now we know what to check and prevent in the future. Al and family and friends are always welcome here.

Perfect place to relax with lovely ocean views

It was wonderful to return to Villa Mare a second time to unwind post-Christmas. The home is beautifully designed both inside and out. And we love its 180-degree view (mountains and ocean!), from its top floor which has a huge open plan grand room + balcony. We so enjoyed spending much of our time there. Its really a 'destination home' in the unbeatable location of Carmel Pat and Vaughn are also very gracious hosts, provisioning their home with many extras and accommodating requests for a late check out. Its on our list to return again!

Magical Gem on the Hill

Our stay at Villa Mare could not have been any more wonderful than it was! The home is spacious and beautifully decorated. Everything we could possibly have needed was provided with bonuses such as a luxurious outdoor shower and the most fantastic view in Carmel. We were in heaven! Vaugh and Pat have created a truly special home. We will be eternally grateful to them for sharing their place with us as it was the very best family vacation we have ever experienced!

Wonderful stay!

Excellent communication with hosts from beginning to end. Delightful home in a gorgeous setting. Looking out over the Mission to the Bay. The elevator is such a remarkable plus for us as we have 1 family member using a wheelchair. But she was able to get to every floor!! Pat and Vaughn are extremely hospitable hosts leaving delicious snacks and drinks/coffee. They have invested a lot of love into this beautiful home and we all felt it. We’re definitely hoping to return one day!

The villa is even more beautiful than it appears in the photos. With a view of the water, the mountains, and the Mission, it’s just breathtaking. You can sit outside on the expansive balcony and just watch the sights and see the light change the views. The villa is also gorgeous and beyond well appointed. Vaughn and Pat have thought of everything. From a fridge that had some basics in it like milk, half and half, butter, juice, cheese, wine, water and other items to a tremendously well stocked coffee station, it was above and beyond. Vaughn and Pat are also very friendly and were responsive to all of our needs and questions. They are truly a pleasure. The villa is also in a fabulous location. You are just a little over a half a mile from the heart of Carmel and while the walk to town is a little hilly, it’s gorgeous with much of the walk done on well groomed trails. If you choose not to walk, Ubers are plentiful, quick and cheap so once you’re at the villa, you only need to drive if you want to explore up or down the coast. My wife and I will definitely be visiting again, and highly recommend the property for your trip.
