Sobre esta propriedade
Architectural masterpiece on 100 acres next to the beach
Experience Australia's most unique beach house and revel in iconic architecture.
Fantastic for couples or multiple families you can share the secluded 100 acres with the roos and wallabies, right on the edge of the Eurobodalla National Park.
Magney house is located on the pristine South Coast of NSW, 20 minutes drive south of the town of Moruya.
The house was designed with camping in mind and has a casual, relaxed feel for informal open-plan living. The simple kitchen and bathroom facilities provide the necessities for comfort while you disconnect from life's distractions. Wifi is available. The layout means that is comfortable for a couple or up to 10 guests. There is plenty of communal space to gather with family and friends, as well as sanctuaries for quiet contemplation, reading a book or having a snooze. Every window has breath-taking views of local beaches, farms or distant mountains.
Completed in 1984 Magney house is Glenn Murcutt's most famous building. Glenn Murcutt AO is recognised in Australia and overseas as our most famous architect. In 2002 he won the distinguished Pritzker Prize for architecture.
The house is located on the lower north facing slope of the 100-acre property and the design takes full advantage of the north sunlight for winter warmth, the summer breezes for cooling and provides protection from the stronger southerly weather. The roofline reflects the quintessentially Australian woodshed and is practical, catching rainwater for the tank that supplies the house.
In 2016 the house was featured in Catherine Hunter's documentary on Glenn Murcutt, Spirit of Place, and in Tim Ross's documentary series Streets of your town. In 2009 the house appeared on an Australian postage stamp.
The Magney family continue to own and run the house and land. All profits are returned to the house for maintenance and restoration, and for upkeep of the property.
The house is comprised of the east and west wing, connected via a central covered courtyard with a dining table and gas BBQ for alfresco dining.
The eastern wing contains a kitchen, master bedroom, private study and bathroom. The kitchen as an electric oven, gas cooktop, microwave oven and fridge. There is a gas fireplace, leather lounges, TV, as well as a dining table and chairs for 8.
The western side has 2 queen bedrooms and the bunk room, separate shower, toilet and vanity. There is a kitchen with induction hob, electric oven, microwave and fridge. The western living area has another 8 seat dining setting, comfortable cane lounges, and TV. The bunk room (sleeps 4 in two bunks). It has a comfy couch and table tennis. A great get-away for the kids.
Up until the 1980's the 100-acre property was used for cattle grazing and farming. Since then the family has let the land regenerate to the native coastal habit. Typically there is a large population of eastern grey kangaroos on the land. Most mornings you will wake to find them grazing on the front lawn.
In the late afternoon take a walk up the fire trail on the hill behind the house to get magnificent views from Pigeon House mountain (north) to Gulaga/Mount Dromedary and Montague Island (south), and the Araluen ranges (west) as the sun sets.
The property is surrounded by the Eurobodalla National Park on three sides. The park has many diverse habitats and lots of wildlife - swamp wallaby, Bennett's wallaby, echidna, white-bellied sea eagles. The 13.5 km Bingie Dreaming walking track (from Congo to Tuross) runs through the National Park and is easily accessible from the house.
Note: Bookings for people aged 18-24 years require approval from the owner. Contact Alix via email to discuss.
Beaches: You are spoilt for choice as the area is surrounded by pristine beaches: Bingie beach on the north side of the Bingie Point headland, and Grey Rocks beach at the northern most reaches of Bingie beach are the closest beaches to the property and can be reached via a picturesque walk from the house. There are carparks at both beaches.
Head over to Mullimburra Point (take the left turn at the T-intersection) for the charming Honey Moon beach with parking.
Drive to Congo beach to explore the diverse rock platform.
Nature walks: Bingie Farm property is right on the boundary of the Eurobodalla National Park. There are a variety of sign-posted walks within the Park to the north as far as Moruya Heads and to the south as far as Tuross.
Growers Market - the Araluen Valley is known for the highest quality organically grown produce. At 3pm on Tuesday afternoons the bell rings and the Moruya Growers market on the banks of the Moruya River gets off to a flying start. Be there on time before the very best of the best is sold out. Saturday Market - many of the growers are also present on Saturday as well as loads of crafts, arts and comestibles and collectibles.
Mogo Zoo: 15 minutes north of Moruya, is an historic town with many fine stores. Just out of Mogo is the zoo famed as the best wildcat zoo in Australia. To the west is the spectacular Araluen range.
Tuross: Heading south from Bingie Farm is Tuross and the wonderful Tuross Lake system. Enjoy the great cafes and or take a picnic and hire a boat to explore the lake. Beyond Tuross and find Bodalla with its host of restaurants.
Narooma: famous for its exquisitely beautiful harbour and wonderful seafood. historic Tilba Tilba and the mystical Mount Dromedary. For a fantastic and challenging climb take a picnic and half a day to reach the summit and return exhausted and satisfied.

A wonderful place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. Serene, sunlit, and very special. We felt very grateful that the hosts share this, one of Australia's most architecturally important houses, with people to experience at first hand.
Exploring the beautiful south coast was an additional highlight of the trip.

Stunning
The property is absolutely stunning. The building blend so beautifully into the landscape. The separate wings allowed us to share the same space but have complete privacy. Would highly recommend for a get away from the lights and the sounds of the city.

The perfect stay for a group
Our group of 10 friends were lucky enough to indulge in 3 nights’ stay at the Magney House. We wouldn’t want any less time to enjoy the house and explore the property and surrounds. The local Bingie Point has some remarkable rock formations and well worth the short walk. Highly recommend for a group of friends looking for an architectural stay.

A beach house for all seasons...
Designed by Australian Architect, Glenn Murcutt & a Pritzker award winner in 2002, I feel privileged to be allowed access to this 40+ year Architectural Masterpiece. Designed to emulate the connection to nature of the camping experience with all the necessary conveniences "wrapped" in the optimal passive solar thermal "envelope". It is simply the best imaginable beach house for all seasons.

Fantastic stay at an iconic architectural masterpiece. My partner is an architect and this was a dream of his. Paul communicated very helpfully and comprehensively. The site is stunning, very close to the beaches. We saw tons of beautiful wildlife, including many Kangaroos. The house is well loved and has the feeling of a family home that’s been opened up (which is is). Fast WiFi, good cooking facilities. I might suggest bringing bottled water, but the onsite water was fine to use. More of a taste thing. Don’t hesitate, take advantage of the opportunity to experience this house and sit.
