Avalon at Arcadia

According to Celtic mythology, Avalon was an earthly paradise generally described as a land of plenty where eternal spring, health, and harmony reigned and Arcadia came to apply to any idyllic location or paradise. Well, Magnetic Island certainly is an idyllic location and our home at Avalon is a little piece of paradise you can experience. Come and enjoy our split-level, 3 bedroom home set in bushland with a backdrop of national park, a natural seasonal creek teeming with wildlife. The house is situated 7 minutes walk from beautiful Alma Bay, fabulous for swimming, rock climbing and lazing.
Avalon is ideally suited to a family or couples. Split levels means there are multiple retreats that suit all. On the lower floor is the main air-conditioned bedroom with en-suite and flat screen TV/DVD. Just step off the deck to enjoy watching the birdlife whilst relaxing on the chaise lounges. The Asian inspired main lounge opens to a wide deck with outdoors settings and Weber barbecue. On the next level is a kitchen, which is built for entertaining. Masses of bench space and fully equipped kitchen make self-catering easy. Another more formal dining area completes this level. You can also escape to the back yard and national park for some quiet time bird watching and enjoy a refreshing outdoor shower. The top floor has two bedrooms, a separate bathroom with tub and shower and separate toilet as well as a sitting/reading room with flat screen TV. The top deck additionally has a verandah that puts you up amongst the treetops. The house is fully airconditioned with fans in all rooms. Large screened doors and windows open all areas up to natural breezes.
Avalon is a special place where you can find solitude, or alternatively, a great place to relax with friends or family. The best of both worlds!

We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage. Graeme was extremely friendly and helpful, providing great tips for our visit. We especially loved the tropical forest surrounding the house, a true haven for diverse and fascinating birds and wildlife. Highly recommended!

Absolutely the best place ever.!!!!!Superb location next to the park. Wallabies hopping by. A koala out for a stroll. Our own family of cockatoos on the porch. House superbly well equipped if weā€™re ever lucky enough to come back, we wouldnā€™t stay anywhere else.

We enjoyed our stay at Avalon very much! The location was perfect for us and we enjoyed walking to the bakery and beach. The house had everything we needed including a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds.

Paradise! An amazing stay in this beautiful location. Nestled among the trees, it feels like an oasis. The property is true to the description. In fact, photos cannot do this place justice. We were travelling as a group of four and the property was spacious - good size kitchen and dining area, two living areas and two generous balconies looking out into the trees. Plenty of wildlife came to visit, with the water feature popular with many of the native birds. The cockatoos provided plenty of entertainment and kookaburras also paid us a visit.The host provided great information and was quick to respond to queries. The Arcadia area is the perfect base for exploring and enjoying the island. Quiet area but close enough to walk to Nelly Bay, where the main supermarket (IGA) is located. Arcadia has two beautiful beaches, Geoffrey Bay, which is great for snorkeling, and Alma Bay, which is a good swimming beach. The nearby RSL has meals Friday and Sunday nights, and a small market near the RSL on Friday night where you can get amazing Thai food. There is also the pub where toad races are held Wednesday nights. There is a small general store, a bakery and burger place nearby. You can also go between the island towns on the bus. The bus stop is about 10 minute walk from the house and will take you to Nelly Bay, Picnic Bay and Horseshoe Bay (you can also get the bus to the Forts walk). and the timetable is scheduled around the arrival and departure of the ferry from Townsville.

Lovely quiet area in Acadia surrounded by bush. House was great. Host rang to let us know we could go in early on our first day and again on the last evening to let us know we could stay as long as we liked on the last day which was generous of him.

Nous avons passĆ© quelques jours en famille dans la maison de Graeme. Celle ci est situĆ©e Ć  10 minutes Ć  pied d'une jolie plage avec possibilitĆ© de se baigner (filet anti mĆ©duses en saison). La ligne du bus passe devant cette plage donc on peut tout a fait se passer d'une voiture sur place (pour les courses, prĆ©voir quand mĆŖme d'aller a Nelly bay). La maison en elle-mĆŖme est trĆØs agrĆ©able, trĆØs bien Ć©quipĆ©e. Juste un peu sombre mais c'est le prix a payer pour cette impression d'ĆŖtre au milieu de la jungle !

This property is spacious and decorated tastefully! The owners are kind and reply promptly if you've an inquiry. I just took a star off because of the smell of the carpets downstairs. Otherwise everything is great including the location!

Great Magnetic Island getaway

The house was just as it looked in the photos, was clean and comfortable and in a great location. We loved all the visiting wildlife in the garden. The host was very quick to reply to any questions and helpful in all communication. We would definitely stay here again if we get a chance to return to Magnetic Island.

Beautiful home in a quiet corner of Magnetic Island

Graeme's home is centrally located in Arcadia, making it a quick commute to both Horseshoe Bay and Picnic Bay. Although we had our own rental car, the home is a very short walk to the bus stop as well as some hiking trails. There are about 10 Sulfur-crested cockatoos that come to visit everyday, especially around lunchtime and it was great fun to sit out on the porch and watch them. We also saw other birds taking baths in the water feature in the garden. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for cooking. The only downside was that the internet did not work most of the time and cell service is limited where we were. Although we were on Magnetic Island to disconnect, the lack of internet/cell service made it difficult to do things such as book tours and research plans for the next day.

Peaceful stay amongst nature

Loved the leafy surrounds and the endless entertainment from the bird life. The resident koala was a bit noisy but weā€™ll forgive him for that! The house had lots of space and everything you could need, even an esky and snorkel gear. Wifi & reception is very poor but that turned out to be a positive as it kept the kids off their screens

Magical!

We had a fantastic holiday at this property. The house is spacious and well equipped, and the owner is responsive and always helpful. A koala greeted us upon our arrival - wow! The surroundings are also beautiful and it is close to Alma Bay where there is fantastic snorkelling right off the beach. Would recommend a stay at this property!
