Beautifully renovated Historical Home sleeps 16. Walk to Strand, restaurants!

We hope our guests can enjoy our recently updated three story FOUR BEDROOM, THREE BATH Historic Victorian Galveston Island home! This modernized 1900 storm survivor exudes the eloquent charm and design to mimic the architecture of its time. Many elements, such as the large grand wooden staircase, large wall spanning windows, 10 foot ceilings and the two wrap around balconies are just a few of the restored home features.
Our home is located only a mere few blocks from quaint restaurants and boutiques. In addition, the strand is a 10 minute walk and attractions such as Seawall Boulevard, Pleasure Pier, Moody Gardens are only a short ride away. As an aide to your island travels, coming in Summer of 2017, will be the restored electric trolley only a few blocks from our front door!
Our "Belle" also includes many modern day luxuries, such as a dual walk in two head shower, an updated and fully stocked kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. Our guests can enjoy complimentary coffee and tea with condiments, as well as a fresh stash of spices and basic staples. Both living areas boast 48" smart TV's with high speed Cable. Free wifi is available throughout the house, with handy electronic device charging ports on each night stand!

Because your hosts want to ensure a great night's sleep for their guests, they have purchased only top of the line beds (including adjustable king size bed) high quality bedding, towels, complimentary soaps, shampoos and even face wash/makeup remover! .

For larger groups, or multiple families, our first floor includes a private kitchen, bathroom (glass enclosed shower AND antique shower tub), bedroom with two twins (trundle) and full size bed to sleep four. The first floor large living area boasts a 48" flat screen smart TV, memory foam queen sleeper sofa bed, a twin memory foam sleeper chair, and two twins (trundle) to sleep five. A memory foam roll away twin bed and an automatic inflatable queen mattress can allow this first floor to sleep up to 12 adults, or maybe just all the kiddos!!.

The third floor has three bedrooms as follows, Large First Master has a King size wrought iron bed (adjustable) with a door to the upstairs wrap around balcony. The Second Master, has a Queen Rice Poster bed, a beautifully wood carved full size crib and bedding with floor to ceiling windows that can be raised (CAREFULLY) to access the balcony as well. The third, room, known as a Trunk Room, is cozily fitted with a trundle bed (two twins), rocking chair and an antique dresser. All six third floor guests have direct access to the third floor bathroom, with double vanity and double walk in shower. Both larger rooms have full closets in addition to a chest of drawers, armoirs, vanity and comfortable reading chairs.

The second floor also has a full bathroom with a double sliding glass door walk in shower. The dining room has a very large faux stone table top, set for 14, with a very probably squeeze of 16! The "updated" 8 antique dining chairs were lovingly and most "novicely" reupholstered by your host! Enjoy the beautifully appointed and professionally reupholstered living room furniture (can adequately seat 8 adults plus two large fluffly floor cushion users) while catching up on the news or sports on the second 48" flat screen smart TV. Yet another gathering area, the front first floor balcony, can comfortably seat guests on a full size wicker couch, and two chairs.

We stayed at the house for our daughters wedding. It was spacious and had room for the entire family. Beautiful historic home with large dining room and enough sleeping area for everyone. The AC worked great!

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

I hosted a 1920s themed murder mystery dinner party at this rental this weekend. The decor matched the theme perfectly, and Eileen was very responsive with information about dishes, glassware, kitchen supplies, etc. The house had ample room for the 8 of us. The AC units worked great, both central air and split units.

The Belle is lovely.

The perfect place for our group of 8. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy one another's company. The Belle has everything you could possibly need at you fingertips. The house is a cute old house with a lot of character. There are a lot of beds or sofas to sleep on. But if you are looking for a private bedroom with a bathroom, this is not the place to stay. If you are looking for a place with a lot of personality and not needing a lot of privacy this is the place.

Beautiful historic home, fantastic location near Strand

We had 12 ladies in for Mardi Gras weekend and a bachelorette party. We rented this beautiful home and it served as a perfect setting for the weekend. Everyone had a comfortable bed, and we enjoyed meals and conversations in the beautiful living and dining areas. We were able to walk to restaurants for all meals and to the strand for Mardi Gras festivities. Street parking was adequate. Eileen (host/home owner) was very responsive to any questions we had. Thank you for lending us such a great home for the weekend!

Beyond my expectations ! There are setting nooks everywhere, outside setting ! WONDERFUL!

When you walk in the home you know the owner cares about her guest! fully stocked kitchen, bedrooms are so comfy with wonderful bedding, not what you normally find in a rental. it feels like you are staying in a friends house! I had a question about the tv and she answered my call in a few minutes. The home itself is a step back in time with its history, quite street, with lots of wonderful old homes to look at. Stop searching... this is the best on the island!

Location, Big, Beautiful, and Historical

We only had 6 (3 couples) stay in this huge home. It was perfect for us in every way. We loved the convenience of the location, nice neighborhood, big home, with nice rooms, gorgeous decor and the historical significance meant a lot to us. Our group is from Houston area and this was a weekend getaway. One thing to add, we were concerned about parking, as we had 4 cars between 6 of us. But we took turns 2 cars in front one night, the other 2 cars in front the other night. Parking along side streets was not an issue at all! There is a parking garage a block away. We asked at the County Courthouse, and they said weekend parking is ok in the garage, but have your car gone by Mon. morning. Don't hesitate to reserve this home. There are so many beds everywhere for your large family!

We almost DIED!

Certainly the gas leak we reported was beyond the owner's control, but the level of resistance and argument we received from the owner was appalling. I texted the owner at 9:41PM saying that there was a strong gas smell downstairs and outside around the house. This is the moment that any reasonable homeowner would immediately call the city to come inspect. Instead, what followed was the owner deflecting, arguing, and trying to talk us out of what we smelled until *finally* at 10:08PM, almost half an hour later, they called the city due ONLY to my refusal to back down. Instead of acting instantly on our behalf and on behalf of her home, the owner tried to tell us it wasn't gas and we must be mistaken. She said: 1.We don't use gas in the house, only electric 2.Correction, we do use gas but only on the first floor 3. The upstairs furnace makes an odor 4. The upstairs furnace is gas but we had a biannual inspection last week. 5. It's just something pressing on the water heater 6.There is typically a smell in the laundry room but it's not gas. It's the pilot light but it's ok because it's vented to outside. 7. The downstairs can smell because of the original wood flooring. 8. Maybe it's raccoons 9. Maybe it's cats 10. We have had renters all winter and ourselves and never had a gas odor yet. I had to argue for a half hour with this woman to just keep my family (and her house!) safe. I hate to think about what would happen if it was someone with less experience in owning a home, or who would have been convinced that the smell was ok and normal by this woman. There was a MAJOR gas leak and the city immediately sent out a crew to replace their gas meter which went into the early morning. Even as the crew was replacing the unit, she asked for photos, and kept texting me asking about the nature of the repair (was it our meter, not the neighbors? Is it broken on our side or the city's? Did the breakage occur from forcing or natural corrosion? - all questions for the repair crew, not your renters!) I had to ask her to contact the crew because how would I know those things? She finally contacted the crew and they filled her in. She then proceeded to circle things in the photos and send them back to me asking, is this a cigarette butt? and what's this metal tag? She said she would compensate us for "all of this". I could have lost my family due to no carbon monoxide alarms and her refusal to act on our behalf. WE COULD HAVE DIED!!!

"We almost died" comment and heading is extremely defamatory, slanderous and libelous. The natural gas leak (which carbon monoxide detectors don't gauge) was a fault of the city. You called me at 9:41pm, and after a short conversation to gather important information from you, I contacted the gas company immediately. I then called you back by 10:00pm to notify you that the gas department would be there in five minutes. As I was explaining to you over the phone, the only appliance in the house that utilized natural gas was the central heat (which was not operating, as the Air conditioning was on) and the first floor gas water heater, which only supplied hot water to the washing machine, the first floor sink, the kitchen sink, and the second floor bathroom, none of which you had utilized in the hour your daughter had been in the house. My two other water heaters are electric, and tankless. Upon seeing the picture of the faulty gas meter connection with the cigarette butt right below the meter I was concerned that someone had recently smoked in the region of the natural gas leak sometime before your arrival and apparently never noted the gas smell. The cigarette butt was a completely separate concern and I never once implied it was from your party!! My texts to you stated repeatedly how grateful I was to you for noting the gas smell. I do want to point out, that anyone who notices a gas leak can call the gas company themselves. Saying I did not act fast enough is simply not true. Perhaps you should have considered contacting the gas company directly yourself to eliminate the 10 minutes you spent on the phone with me. Yes, I did say I wanted to compensate you for your unfortunate experience, and I was planning on doing so, either with a partial refund (even though this was not caused by myself in any form or fashion) or send a gift basket to you. However, upon seeing this review, I realize that you were more interested in blaming myself for this entire affair and wanting financial compensation. Your review is simply not true, and is unjust, slanderous, defamatory and libelous. I would ask you to remove this review from the VRBO website to prevent loss of my revenue. I have sought legal counsel regarding your review, and as advised, am taking this first step to ask you to remove this review from my listing. And because I am a responsible property owner of a historical home in a region known for hurricanes and flooding, I did send an email out to all of my fellow neighbors regarding my gas meter leak, suggesting that they check for any metal corrosion causing same leaks as found on mine. You have every right to have been very concerned and upset about the gas leak. But I would take this up with the city of Galveston Gas Company. One would think they would have proactive surveillance to ensure the integrity of their gas lines. I do have carbon monoxide detectors in the house. But I am also now installing natural gas detectors (not the same as carbon monoxide ones) in the house as well! I am also installing exterior cameras to help deter any future outside irresponsible behaviors!
