The Hideaway is a unique, secluded beachfront property sitting on a rocky bluff in the historic township of Swansea on the magnificent east coast of Tasmania. Hear the waves lapping on the beach below. Be mesmerized by the 180Ā° view over Oyster Bay, Freycinet Peninsula and Schouten Island. Feel the sea breeze. Walk directly onto the sand where you have 9 miles of beach ready to explore. Relax, catch up, enjoy.

Adventure awaits

Swansea is ideally situated to become your base for exploring the Tasmanian East Coast. It is less than 2 hours to both Launceston and Hobart. It is 45 minutes drive to Freycinet National Park or to the ferry to Maria Island National Park. Swansea is well known for boating, kayaking and fishing. Nearby there are opportunities for bushwalking, mountain biking, surfing and scuba diving.


Spectacular Food and Wine

Swansea has an impressive array of cafes and restaurants. Within easy walking distance (via the beach) are Artifact Gallery & CafƩ, Saltshaker Restaurant & CafƩ and Oyster Bay Seafoods. Piermont Restaurant is a multi award winning venue 5 minutes south of Swansea. The Barkmill Tarvern is a wonderful family restaurant and boasts a bakery and museum.
The East Coast is a premium growing region for cool climate wines with Milton, Springvale, Gala and Freycinet Vineyard cellar doors nearby.

The property is falsely advertised as "beachfront". It is NOT beachfront. It is high above a rocky shore which can only be accessed via a precipitously steep steep earthen path. You cannot swim there.The host did not respond when we told him that the toaster was broken.Hand basins so tiny you could barely clean your teeth, let alone wash your face.3rd bedroom so small that even with the double bed up against the wall, there was no room for a bedside table.

What can I say! The ocean views from this house are amazing. I loved waking up to the view of the sea below me. We enjoyed the fireplace and playing scrabble and walking on the beach below. Swansea was a nice town to explore and it was a good location to go to both Maria Island and Freycinet national park. I highly recommend a stay in this amazing spot!

Fabulous view of Great Oyster Bay from living room and master bedroom. Amazing to wake up to. The house was cosy, clean and great for 2 couples. The fireplace with wood supplied was very much appreciated. Steep walk down to the beach but worth it to do a spot of fishing and walk amongst the rocks.

Lovely and relaxing

Lovely property, very clean with fantastic views over Oyster Bay from most of the rooms. Walking distance to town. Open fire was cosy (we visited in June) backed up up by the split system that provided enough warmth. Entry is a bit difficult to find as google sends you around the corner & as others have noted not a property for those with major mobility issues due to steps/steep driveway.

Beautiful and Serene

I wanted to take my husband and elderly parents away for a few days as these last few months medical issues have hit our family. The beds are super comfy, the lounges are very comfortable and the kitchen fully equiped and a few things in the pantry and fridge were much appreciated. A wonderful spot to watch the ocean and so so quiet. We got the key and got to the front porch which is quit narrow and has a table and chairs on it. It felt a bit unsafe. My dad who is 89 shuffled sideways past the table and chairs with no room for error and mum who is 87 just had a hip replacement which made it difficult. Once we got inside we checked out the back door and realised there is a quite level access to there. The key is for the front door, so maybe consider rekeying it so you can access by the back door or maybe consider a railing that wont interfere with the view. Overall it was a wonderful stay, in a beautiful spot and we would have no worries about returning at all.

Amazing Location

The property is a wonderful experience! It is quietly secluded and spotless throughout with magnificent views. There is a path to the beach where the surrounding scenery is just beautiful. If you want to relax, unwind this is the place to visit. We loved e everything about The Hideaway!

Short stay with extended family after completing Three Capes Track

Happiness At The Hideaway

This is our third stay at The Hideaway...everything about this place is amazing. The location...so close to the beach...incredible panoramic views from the abundance of windows...big fireplace...beautiful linen and cosy beds. Perfect Hideaway

We loved our stay at The Hideaway. Itā€™s a bit quirky BUT the view is just wonderful day and night. Concealed beautifully amongst the trees with a path leading down to the beach. The BEST FIREPLACE EVER. Worked like a dream. Kitchen well equipped and not far from the action in Swansea. Lovely beach walks around Great Oyster Bay. Really enjoyed our week at The Hideaway

Amazing Getaway

This is our second stay at The Hideaway. There's a good reason fo that...it's THE best accomodation in every way. There are mind blowing panoramic views from the abundance of windows in this beautiful vintage house. A minute walk to the beach and with all the charm of a 'shack' though next level comfort. Love everything about this place, they are very lucky owners because I'd live there permanently in a heartbeat! Thank you again for sharing this beautiful space and we look forward to returning.

Cheerful Oceanfront Getaway

Great place to stay, and reasonably priced. All comfortable amenities and spectacular views were as advertised. Very warm and cozy inside, as we watched the ocean crash on the shore outside - on some cold October nights! Easy access to all East and South East coast attractions. Anyone interested in visiting the Freycinet coast should consider this property.

Hideaway

Peaceful, gorgeous secluded location even though close to town. Very clean and well presented. Beautiful rooms. Wake up every morning to see the sunrise over the beach directly from bed. Kitchen had everything we needed including basic pantry items. Laundry much appreciated. Very short walk to town either on road or via beach. Highly recommended weekend (or longer) get away from the cities.
