Welcome to Casa de las Olas, an incredible tropical paradise just 100 yards to the beach!

For the first time ever, in 2024 we began to rent the entire property as a whole. What that means for you is that, for groups up to 6 you will have the primary Residence (the Casa) and the attached Casita. The Casa is about 1,700 square feet and includes two bedrooms; two bathrooms (one with a full bathtub, the other with a shower); full kitchen; living room; dining area; TV; a working desk area; Air Conditioning in all spaces; a front terrace with hammocks and fans; and is just steps away from either the beach or the wonderful pool in the rear yard. The Casita is attached to the Casa and is located above the garage. The Casita is a large studio of approximately 700 square feet, with a full bath; a queen bed; a full kitchen; a living room area with TV; a desk / office area; air conditioning; a wonderful terrace; hammocks; and, a really cool vibe. Both the Casa and the Casita have their own separate private outdoor showers that are surrounded by beautiful gardens.

In 2022 we undertook a major renovation project, which was building a backyard paradise that includes lush gardens, a pool, rancho/kitchenette, and private outdoor showers, and lounging spaces for all to enjoy.

So if you are looking for an Amazing, Beautiful, Fun, Private, well-appointed tropical getaway, we have exactly what you’re looking for. At Casa de las Olas, we believe that when you arrive you "Drop In To Life" !

Located midway between Tamarindo and Langosta, Casa de las Olas is tucked away from the bustle of town in a quiet, premier location that’s just 100 yards to the sand of the safest swimming beach in the area, and a short walk from a few of the finest restaurants in Tamarindo/Langosta. "Downtown" is a beautiful 10 minute walk down the beach, and Langosta's friendly restaurants & bars, and stunning sunsets and beaches are equally close.

We recognize that when you are looking for a vacation rental, you have many choices. In sharing our home with you, our goal is to provide you with a memorable tropical experience.

If you prefer a private setting, you can begin to understand why this property is one of the most sought after properties in the Tamarindo area. Whether it’s surfing, fishing, diving, sitting in the pool, snorkeling, exploring, reading, or just plain old relaxing in the hammock, let Casa de las Olas be your tropical oasis.

We have adopted, and the entire Staff at Casa de las Olas has been trained in, the "UltraClean" protocol which was originally developed in Australia and is now an international standard for cleaning holiday rental units. Should you wish to receive additional information regarding the "Ultra Clean" protocol, just reach out and we will share this with you. Additionally, should you wish to not have the cleaning service, which is normally included, please let us know ahead of time so that we can arrange that with our incredible Maid.

I can't recommend this host and house enough. The home was in a great location, very clean, and had everything needed for an amazing vacation in Tamarindo. Any questions we had for the host were promptly answered and they always had our best interest at heart. We will be coming back for sure!

Great location. Close to the beach…but peaceful as well!

We enjoyed our week at the house. Loved the outdoor showers! Air conditioning worked well. Housekeeping was an added plus. Loved the pool area and covered patio to escape the sun. The biggest drawback would be the locks required between the 2 units. Didn’t like that and really didn’t understand what it wouldBe like….and that is why I gave it a 4 star. Better suited for just adults I would say.

Perfect spot in Tamarindo!

We couldn’t have made a better selection for our vacation in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. The casita was lovely with everything we needed. The pool, gardens, and outdoor living area were ideal. The beach access was just across the street. The property is in the quieter area of Tamarindo which was nice. It’s an easy walk to restaurants. Rik and Susan were gracious hosts. It was just the property and vacation we were looking for!

Great host, great space, great time.

My wife and I had a glorious time staying at Rik and Susan's Casita. Every single part of the stay was perfect including the bed, outdoor living space and ease of walking to the beach or local markets/restaurants. The Casita at Casa de Las Olas

We had the best time in Tamarindo and especially at Rik and Susan’s home. Couldn’t have been more happy with the hospitality and the property itself. The pool and tropical backyard was the icing on the cake plus only a 3-5 min walk across the street to the breathtaking beach. We look forward to coming back ASAP!

Beautiful studio on quiet side of Tamarindo

Lovely studio that is very well appointed and has everything you need. Rik and Susan are easy to work with and have done a beautiful job taking care of the property. They have a wealth of information regarding Tamarindo and the surrounding area. The beach (Tamarindo) is very accessible and just a few steps away. We love that we are close to Tamarindo beach to hit the waves and Langosta beach (a short walk) to find seashells and the tide pools are fun to explore. We loved the restaurant next door. The pool area is very lush and beautiful. The pool was so nice to take a quick dip to cool off. It was a bit hot for us, but Rik and Susan can’t control the weather sadly (LOL). Also, the sun comes into the windows very early so bring an eye mask if you need it to be dark to sleep. We hope to return soon!

The perfect place to stay if you are looking for a quiet get away in Tamarindo.

Perfect place to stay in Tamarindo. Just takes a couple of minutes to walk to the beautiful beach of Tamarindo and a short walk to town with all of the amazing restaurants and shops. Casa de Las Olas was amazing. The quiet pool side oasis in the back yard was incredible. Perfect place to hear and see Howler Monkeys and Iguanas. Thank you Rik and Susan for your hospitality.

We had a wonderful stay at Rik's property. The house is exactly as pictured. Less than a 5 minute walk to the water. We used all of the toys in the photo plus a SUP. Walter the caretaker answered the few questions we had and suggested a few places to visit. Highly recommend staying here.

A lovely restful stay in beautiful Costa Rica!

Casa de Las Olas was the perfect place to take time out from our busy lives! I looked forward every morning to waking up early and sitting on the porch with my coffee to listen to the birds and the waves and to watch the monkeys scamper across the trees. The home is a very short walk away from a wide beautiful beach where you will see surfers surfing, people riding horses, families playing, and people walking their dogs. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance on the beach or on the road. The home itself has everything you need and was absolutely spotless. The best part of our stay however was the hospitality of our hosts, Rik and Susan. Rik and Susan answered any questions we had and gave suggestions about local places to see, places to eat and places to be. They were even able to point us in the direction of a wonderful healthcare provider when my husband needed one. Also, the grounds around the home are absolutely stunning with beautiful trees, plants, flowers and a little garden out front. It is obvious that they work very hard to maintain and continually improve their piece of paradise. Go and enjoy Casa de las Olas, you will not be disappointed! We will be returning!

Wonderful experience

We truly can’t say enough wonderful things about Rik, Susan, and their wonderful staff at Casa de las Olas. From the very beginning of booking, they went above and beyond to make sure our vacation was unforgettable. From transportation to excursions to making sure we allowed time to relax, too, they helped with every detail. Amazing House, Hosts and Location

We just returned from 3 weeks at Casa de las Olas and it was a wonderful stay. The house is clean, comfortable, roomy and well taken care of. It is just as it appears in the pictures. There is about any water toy you can imagine included along with bikes, chairs etc. The beach is less than a minute walk and it is easy to walk to the many wonderful restaurants in town. Rik and Susan were terrific hosts, always there for anything we needed and very informative. It is an ideal place to stay!

An incredible house with the perfect location

I could go on and on about how great Rik's house is. To put it simple and short Rik has a great home and you can tell he truly cares and has worked hard to maintain it. Rik and his team that helps manage the home go above and beyond to see to any questions or needs. My daughter hurt her foot and William had someone there the next morning to take us to the doctor and they made sure we were taken care of the entire trip. The extras he has here are just the icing on the cake. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in tamarindo on the quiet end of the beach you won't find a better home. One last thanks to Rik, William and his team, book this home you will not be disappointed.

Great place : calm, cosy and easy access to the beach

Probably the best choice in terms of price/quality ratio in the area. Rik's house is comfortable, aircon in both bedrooms, new couch, great location. Walter the gardner is so nice, Rik the owner and William the manager are both easy to communicate.

Where Time Stands Still

Our stay at Casa de Las Olas exceeded our expectations in every way. A quaint, casual, lush tropical oasis transports one to a paradise surrounded by some of the most beautiful ecological surroundings. Tamarindo reminded me of Bali, and the tropical flora of Singapore. Casa de Las Olas is certainly a place I will strive to return to - a place where for us - time stood still.

Wonderful stay!

Our stay at Casa de las Olas was better than we could’ve imagined. In a convenient neighborhood of Tamarindo just steps to the ocean, Rik’s home couldn’t be more perfect for our stay. Having the boards and bikes was amazinggg, we used them almost everyday. On top of that, Rik has an awesome “book” he made about Costa Rica, with recommendations of places to see, local tips, etc., we all enjoyed reading it! Overall, we are so happy we chose Casa de las Olas for our first trip to Costa Rica. Thanks Rik!!

Fabulous! Pura vida!

This house was custom built by the owner, Rik, and it could not be any better. The attention to detail such as, a Bose Bluetooth speaker to a portable ice chest to take to the beach, shower to rinse off before entering the house to a garden to eat from, and SUP board to inner tube for use all added to the enjoyment of our stay. Once he accepted our request to stay at his house, we agreed on a time to talk on the phone, and he called from Costa Rica. Every piece of advice was excellent, and the places he recommended were spot on. He is communicative, helpful, and knowledgeable. His staff was exceptional as well. Next we’ll stay for a month!!! Thank you, Rik, for everything! Pura vida!

NOTE: For the first time in almost 40 years, as the original Owner and Builder of Casa de las Olas, I (Rik) have sold the property (December 2025). That's the Bad News. The Good News is that I have sold the property to my Nephew, Jason and his Wife Chelsea. Over the years, the entire Team at Casa de las Olas has worked diligently to take care of our Guests so that they would truly enjoy their hard-earned vacation and have a Wonderful Stay at this incredible property. Based on the entire Teams efforts, we have consistently earned a 5-Star rating AND we have many Guests that have returned for multiple years.

I'm an old California "Surf Rat" who has spent a vast majority of my time traveling the globe looking for waves. In 2009 I retired from the Fire Service. Like everyone, I've had some challenges, but I keep a smile on my face most of the time and laugh at myself fairly often.
I still love surfing, chasing waves, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and sharing Casa de las Olas with old and new friends alike!

I purchased this property in 1987, which was long before Tamarindo was "discovered," and literally, there was nothing here!

I built the home between 1992 and 2000. Since I was intimately involved in all phases of the construction, and Tamarindo was quite primitive at the time, I had to bring down most of the materials i.e., plumbing, electrical, etc. in Rubbermaid plastic bins. Even though I have been active in my life, the construction and logistics of building this home was one of the most challenging things I've ever done.

Since I've spent a fair bit of my time chasing waves in the backyards of the world, I knew that one day I wanted to retire in the Tropics and Tamarindo seemed to be a good place. Although it's changed dramatically over the years, Tamarindo is still a great place to kick back and enjoy life.

In 2022, Susan and I took on the grand project of remodeling the backyard into a real tropical paradise that includes a pool, tropical garden, large rancho, and lounging spaces. We LOVE our backyard paradise and hope you and your family and friends will too!

Casa de las Olas is a very short walk to the a beautiful beach, with a private lounging pool and tropical paradise in the backyard. Which includes a rancho/BBQ-kitchenette and dining space, sun loungers, tropical gardens, hammock, WIFI, toilet, and outdoor tropical showers. For your beach adventures, guests have the use of two surfboards, two boogie boards, two bicycles, and a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP).
Casa de las Olas is well appointed with all of the modern indoor/outdoor conveniences and comforts. So no matter what you prefer, whether it's surfing, lounging in the pool, or laying in the hammock, Casa de las Olas is a special place people love and continue to return.
