The place was perfect in everyway. We were a group of 10 and there was a space for everyone to find quiet time, each bedroom was nicely porportioned and the four bathrooms were positioned well. The home's setting was beyond expectations. Each night nature gave us a show of colors at sunset and each morning the call of the loons woke us. The house itself is well designed and decorated - it felt as though we were guests in a family home rather than a rental. All expressed interest in coming back!

This house was perfect for a week-long family reunion. It is so spacious and thoughtfully laid out that several families can have space to relax and common areas to hang. We loved the beautiful sunsets on the deck and paddling in the water. The host was very easy to communicate with and the caretakers were extremely responsive. The house is secluded and private but close to everything in Acadia and bar harbor. We absolutely loved our stay here!

We were 4 generations on a family vacation. The property was excellent: beautiful sunsets, plenty of room to spread out, included kayaks, paddle boards and life jackets. Excellent shore to scramble around on and view the tide pools. Full game closet for the rainy days, reliable internet and wifi.I communicated with Sam the owner a number of times, he was always responsive and helpful. The location is perfect, close to everything on the island. We enjoyed our stay immensely and definitely recommend this property.

Our family of 7 adults had an amazing time at this incredible property! The location was amazing; right in the middle of everything. The house is located on a quiet tidal cove with ever changing views and abundant wildlife. Several in our group took out kayaks every day and loved it! The kitchen was well appointed coming from someone who cooks, which helped us feel right at home. The rooms were sized perfectly for large family groups and everyone had privacy, which was nice as the first part of our week was storming and rainy. We played games, ate well as a group and enjoyed a roaring fire. We enjoyed hiking and biking, taking in all the area had to offer. We had some questions on our first day and both the owner and the caretaker were super responsive and helpful, but never intrusive. The house was impeccably clean and comfortable.We highly recommend this property! We will definitely be back!

Absolutely wonderful wonderful wonderful! Our first family vacation that was a mix of relaxation and fun! The kids had so much fun just exploring the property and my husband and I loved the view and nightly fires! Our kids wanna move there 100000/10 would definitely recommend!!!

Fantastic Stay

We just arrived home after our stay and amazing is an understatement. The house is the most well stocked VRBO I’ve ever stayed at, especially with things for families with small children. The location was perfect with a short drive getting you to several great places around the island. Definitely recommend. Pick this place for the sunset views alone.

Perfect Retreat!

Wonderful vacation spot for a large family reunion. Everyone had enough space in this beautiful home on the Somes Sound. Gorgeous sunsets every night, plenty to do at our fingertips and perfect if we didn't want to anything. Did not disappoint! Looking forward to going back soon.

Beautiful rustic home in quiet wooded setting along the Somes Sound. Very convenient to Acadia NP and dining venues on MDI. Would go back!

A wonderful experience

We stayed for 2 weeks in June and absolutely loved the cabin and property. We had 3 generations of family and everybody raved about the experience. The house was wonderful, the deck and sunsets were spectacular and the kids loved swimming, kayaking, and exploring on the beach and property. I can’t recommend it enough.

Wonderful Property and Location

Our three generation family had a magnificent week. The location enabled lots of hiking in Acadia National Park. And when we returned the house and views were outstanding. Plenty of room for everyone, the kitchen was well equipped and everything was superb. If not for the 12 hour drive we would stay here every year.

Family Getaway

The house is perfectly located on a beautiful sound that gave an amazing way to begin and end each day. From the wildlife to the sunsets, it created an amazing backdrop for a great family vacation. The house was well equipped and provides comfortable accommodations for the entire family. Located right across the street from a trailhead for hiking and convenient to bar harbor, but not in the all the traffic. The owner and caretaker were super responsive and made the entire visit seem less. Great place and would recommend.

Incredible Maine

We could not have loved this home more — with 7 adults and 3 toddlers, we all had our own space inside while nestled in an idyllic park-like environment. Kitchen had everything we needed for many family-style meals around the huge eat-in kitchen table. Communication with the owner and on-site caretaker was a breeze both before and during the trip, and they made sure travel cribs were available for the kids so we could travel without. Can’t recommend this home enough!

Amazing!

This is an absolutely beautiful location with a comfortable house and many amenities. Regardless of age or interests, everyone of us enjoyed our stay. The rocky shoreline was a big hit with our younger set, while the adults marveled at sunsets from the deck. We had easy access to Acadia; bird watching throughout MDI; a boat trip to see nesting puffins and playful seals; hiking to Cadillac Mountain to watch the to the sunrise; and a catered dinner on the deck. This was a very special vacation for all of us.

Beautiful place with awesome location on the water

We had a great time at the house. Beautiful views from the windows and the deck. Unbelievable view of the sunset right from the deck. House has everything you need for a large group. There were 10 of us at the house. Very cozy bedrooms. We were very impressed with owner's ability to adjust and accommodate our needs on the fly. We will rent it again in the near future.

I appreciate Oleg's 4 star review, which I am confident would have been 5 stars had I not committed a VRBO rookie mistake. He and his group were gracious about my somehow not being aware they were coming! A late afternoon call from the caretaker said " some renters are here, reservation in hand." Oleg's wife and I talked and quickly figured out the solution. I put all 5 couples up for the night in a nice Bar Harbor Hotel, paid for dinner, and refunded 25% of their rent. I believe I atoned for my error. The linchpin of the recovery was the cleaner. She was able to deploy someone the next morning and and prep the house. Christmas bonus for sure. I do appreciate Oleg deducting only one star and not publicly shaming me for my mistake. Thank you Oleg. Thank you Tatiana. I'm delighted you enjoyed your time in the house.

Stunning Sunsets and Brilliant Stars

This home was the perfect place to come back to at the end of a day playing on Mount Desert Island. We so enjoyed sitting on the deck after biking and/or kayaking, watching first the sun set and later the stars reflected in Somes Sound. The house had everything we needed to make us comfortable and welcome. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for opening your home.

Adventures in Acadia

A spectacular property directly on Sommes Sound and across the street from Acadia National Park. The backyard offered views of seals and a beautiful inlet perfect for kayaking and paddlebaording. The owner and caretaker were very accomadating towards any needs we had, especially in the face of unexpected circumstances. Our family had a wonderful time reconnecting with nature in all its power and beauty. Acadia national park is a true gem and this property is perfect base from which to explore. We cannot recommend it highly enough! Thank you for a wonderful adventure in Maine!

The Best Family Vacation Ever

This house was perfect for our family vacation in every way! The house was spacious, comfortable and beautifully equipped with everything we could possibly want or need. The views are spectacular from every spot on the property and the entire property is amazing! We had such fun kayaking, swimming, hiking, paddleboarding, cooking and playing games that we didn't need to go anywhere else. We did, of course, because there is so much to see and do on Mt. Desert Island and this house is perfectly situated for everything.Also, I can't say enough about our host, Sam! He was so welcoming, responsive and helpful! We loved this house and the surrounding property so much that we're all trying to make our houses feel the same way. An impossible task but we'll work on it until we have the chance to rent this house again!

Vacation Perfection

We have been fortunate to rent a number of vacation homes all over the world and this was one of our favorites. The location of the home could not be better. Directly on Somes Sound, it is in the middle of Mount Desert Island and close to restaurants and shopping in Bar Harbor and the numerous attractions of Acadia National Park. We also kept busy at the home site itself with kayaking, swimming (the water is much warmer here than on the coast), paddle boarding, nature walks, and enjoying the picturesque sunsets on the deck overlooking the water. The caretaker was helpful, attentive, and available for our needs. The owner was very quick to respond to messages and questions. The spacious, well maintained home is a perfect blend of modern convenience and rustic comfort. It is obvious that the family cherishes the home and we are grateful that they shared it with us.

Matthew, what a lovely review. Thank you. Matthew and his family were terrific renters. They started the dishwasher, stripped the beds, and started a load of laundry the morning of their departure. They left the house and property in excellent condition. I would happily have Matthew and his family return to enjoy our eden on the sound anytime.

Amazing property on Some Sound

This home sits on the kind of land you can no longer buy. It is on 15 choice acres right on Some Sound with magnificent views from almost every window. It is roomy and comfortable with the patina of age and lots of character. You can tell it is the well-loved house of an extended clan who gathers here each summer. It reminded me of my grandparents’ home, in all the best ways. It is not cutting-edge or fancy but it is very lovely. We enjoyed every minute of our mid-October stay. Taking their boats out on the water was a particular highlight of our stay. Sam was my main point of contact from the family and he could not have been nicer or more responsive. I would highly recommend this home.

Rachel was great. Pleased to have her back anytime. She gets what our place is all about. I'm grateful for her enthusiastic and spot on review. The perfect Acadia vacation rental

The property exceeded my family’s expectations and provided the perfect location to enjoy all that Mt. Desert island and Acadia have to offer. The rooms are comfortable and provided ample space for everyone to spread out. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and allowed for our large party of 10 to eat meals together. The kayaks allowed us to explore the sound and hunt for schools of mackerel in the morning. The large deck and wooded property were perfect for bird/nature watching, including waking up to the sounds of loons each morning. Samual was incredible to work with during the booking process and was very responsive to all our questions during our stay. He clearly enjoys being able to share a place he and his family love with others. In addition, Garrett (the onsite grounds keeper) provided quick, in person help when needed. My family has a long, multigenerational history visiting the island, and we had a truly wonderful and magical week that meant a lot to everyone.

Great Gathering Spot

The house is just as it looks in the pics. You can tell from the minute you walk in that there have been a lot of fun times had here. The location is amazing and the view from almost every room is spectacular. We had several fires out on the point as the sun set over Somes Sound, which I will never forget. The owners were easy to work with and the property manager was great. We did use Chef Greg one night, which I'd highly recommend. Having said all this, there are some rustic elements. This house is a grand old dame, but she's probably due for a facelift, particularly when it comes to the bathrooms. Don't hesitate to book this place. We are a family of 8 that created some priceless memories here that we will never forget. Thanks to the Hargraves family for sharing this treasure with us.
