Come explore the Redwoods, soak in the hot tub, relax on the wrap around covered porch, gaze out to the distant sea, cozy up by the fire pit, feed the Goldfish in the backyard pond and listen to the waterfalls. This 2500 square foot home is a haven for the soul inside and out. Perfect getaway for nature lovers, couples and families with older children! Garden Pond Retreat sits right above a forested coastal trail complete with a bridge and creek. This trail offers a short walk to the Mad River with views beyond to the ocean. Vaulted ceilings and plenty of windows invite the garden and seaside views inside.

On the main level guests will enjoy gleaming hardwood floors, a well appointed living room w/ large Smart T.V. with Cable, dining room with seating for 6 and a fabulous open and connected kitchen- family room made cozy by a gas fireplace. Enjoy playing games by the fire with over 20 fun board games to choose from! Cooks will love preparing meals in the spacious, fully stocked kitchen complete with a large island and breakfast bar. The family room even includes a desk for guests needing to work while traveling. There is a half bath on this level. Upstairs are 3 spacious bedrooms. The Main bedroom has distant ocean views, offers a King bed and attached bathroom with a large oval bathtub and separate shower. The second bedroom overlooks the incredible gardens, pond and wooded vistas below. The third bedroom has a king bed and a small t.v. for DVD's only. This bedroom also has gorgeous garden & wooded views. The 2nd upstairs bathroom has a combination tub/shower. All of the bedrooms upstairs are carpeted adding to the comfort and warmth of this house.

This home is filled with class and style. Each room is decorated with one of a kind artwork. Centrally located in Mckinleyville, Garden Pond Retreat is just 10 minutes to the bustling college town of Arcata and 10 minutes from the seaside village of Trinidad, and less than 2 miles from the local Airport. Just footsteps from the 5-plus mile hiking/biking/equestrian section of the California Coastal Hammond Trail that stretches from the Arcata Bottoms northward to Clam Beach County Park in McKinleyville. The trail has been voted "best place to walk, jog, or bike" in Humboldt County. If you want to take a bike ride in Humboldt County, this is the place!

Important Notes:

** Guest reserving home must be 25 years or older, be staying at the property the entire time and will be considered the responsible party for this booking.

** Upon completion of booking reservation guests will be required to sign a rental agreement agreeing to Trinidad Retreats rules and regulations.

** Due to the 4 foot deep pond this home is not suitable for children under 6 or not swim safe. *

** Sorry but this is not a pet friendly home, no exceptions.

We had a wonderful stay at Garden Pond Retreat! The home is comfortable and well appointed and the yard is amazing. We had a small issue with the property and the property management team was quick to answer our call (late on a Saturday night even!), help us, and remedy the issue the following day. We stay in the area about once per year and will definitely keep this on the list of places we would go back to!

Wonderful stay for 6 nights

Home had comfortable stay and enough comfortable beds for family of 5! This was a quiet neighborhood with a lot of close things to do around the area! The house was clean with a beautiful yard!

The pond and landscaping were wonderful! A beautiful outdoor space! Beds were all comfortable and hot tub was a welcome sight after hiking during the days.

Flower lover's dream

Stayed here with friends as a base camp to explore the various redwood parks. It was a good choice, the property is great, perfect location, great views. The master bedroom is amazing. The real draw here is the gardens, which are, I'd wager, world class in the VRBO land. Clearly an incredible effort put in here. All the flowers were in bloom and the massive koy pond is such an amazing feature. Rental was nice, hot tub is great (and barely mentioned in the pictures!), but be aware, it is very consistently cold here due to the marine layer (a thing you will hear much of if you haven't yet). In the heart of July we never saw above 62 degrees. Coming from 97 degrees in North Carolina this was a shock. This is clearly an owner lived in house and an owner driven rental, which as renters we all love (versus third party rental agencies), the care in the gardens in particular shows this commitment. Thank you for sharing your home!

Great home base for the Redwoods

We really enjoyed this property as our home base for our visit to the Redwoods. It was an easy drive to the parks, while also being close to beaches and restaurants. The house was quiet and clean, and we loved the beautiful flowers, pond and hot tub. Thank you for your hospitality!

We loved everything about the house, it was perfect for us in every way possible. We did have a minor issue with the hot tub and the property management team resolved the problem within two hours. We loved the art work throughout the house and the oak floors and cabinetry. The landscaping and variety of plants were absolutely beautiful and the pond was the highlight of the outside.

This was a beautiful property in a great location. Very clean and well stocked kitchen. We had great communication throughout the process. The grounds were so pretty and it was just a relaxing home to be in. There was a great walking path nearby with wonderful views of the ocean. I would highly recommend this location.

Atmosphere

The residence was tranquil and elegantly appointed, providing an excellent environment for quality time with loved ones. Wonderful family visit

This was a very warm, comfortable and artistic home with touches of art wherever you look. From pottery to paintings to the fine oak furnishings this is a very special and well cared for home. We were grateful for the opportunity to be able to stay.

We had the most marvelous time at this house! The house was beautiful, and very clean and tidy. The amenities were plentiful and incredible to use! Thank you so much for letting us stay at your house! It was perfect for the bridal party to stay at for a beautiful weekend wedding. The beds are also incredibly comfortable and the beds are huge! AMAZING!

My husband plans to give a more thorough review later, but in 20 years of using VRBO-and we use it 1-3/year-this is the absolute best! Super clean, comfortable, the most amazing landscaping, great hot tub, and they had EVERYTHING you will need! We could stay here for months! The only thing missing was our other daughter who couldn’t be with us.

Beautiful house with ocean views

This was the perfect place for a multigenerational vacation. The garden was magical, our 5 year old loved feeding the fish in the pond, squeezing the snapdragon flowers and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. The adults enjoyed the hot tub and the gourmet kitchen. This is not a place you need to bring cooking gear, the knives are sharp. If you do some wine tasting while you're in town there is also a wine fridge. We'd definitely stay again in the future.

An ideal setting!

It is nicely located in McKinleyville just off the 101 between Arcata and Trinidad. Easy jaunts to Arcata for the university, Eureka for the big town or (better yet) up north to Trinidad and amazing coastlines. The deck off the house is huge and has a wonderful view of the ocean and the pond with the frogs is very relaxing. The house is well appointed with all you need for an easy stay. The house was clean, well maintained and very comfortable. The Hammond Trail is just outside the neighborhood for a wonderful walk in either direction. After a long day hiking, shopping or being on the beach, the hot tub was a welcome treat!

Nice home in a quiet coastal town

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our overall stay was magnificent. The rental location was good - easy access to highway 101.The house was clean and in good shape. I’m recovering from knee surgery and all three bedrooms are upstairs - the staircase was equipped with railings on both sides so I always felt steady going up and down the stairs.Master bedroom has an obstructed view of the ocean (which was nice since it’s not located on the closest street to the ocean), and the stand-up shower in the master bath could use either grip tape on the bottom of it or a handrail installed. Our bed in the master was very soft. Our other travelers commented that the middle bedroom had a hard bed and the end bedroom had a soft bed. We all slept great.The koi pond was my favorite part of the property and we went out to feed the koi every day - there was koi food in a cabinet in the kitchen.The hot tub on the back deck was nice. I only went into it once because it’s kind of “in-ground” and I wasn’t sure enough of my footing to be confident getting in/out of it again. My son sure enjoyed it though!We also walked part of the Hammond trail at sunset. It was an easy 1.3 mile loop for the route we took.We didn’t have any interactions with property management besides texting to let them know when we checked in and out.All in all, I recommend this property and would definitely stay again.

Very quiet, cozy and extremely comfortable beds.

This vacation property is close to everything along the coast and quick shopping trips too. The trails along Mad River are beautiful, safe and allows for every level of walking interests If you have a larger family as we do and need max amount of privacy as well, this home will suite these needs perfectly. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, sharing quiet conversations around the little fire pit and porches. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much.
