The Deland Marigold Caribbean is a beautifully furnished 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment on the ground floor of the Victorian home that has everything you need for a great stay in DeLand. The bells of St Peters Church add to the peaceful and quiet country feel setting in the center of Deland, just a few minutes walk to the shops and restaurants of the award winning downtown and Stetson University. This centrally located property gives you easy access to everything Central Florida has to offer. Owners Bill and Erin are close by so let them know if you need anything special for your stay.

Deland has been awarded the “Best Small Town in Florida” many times and holds regular festivals including the Dog Parade, The Christmas Boat Parade, Juried Art festivals, and several holiday parades like Veterans day and homecoming. MainStreet DeLand Association - Deland, FL link can show you the upcoming calendar of events.

New Smyrna Beach is a quick 35 minute drive and world famous Daytona Beach with its awesome Daytona International Speedway - NASCAR racing is also 35 minutes away. Both beaches allow driving and parking on the beach. We provide beach supplies for your stay so no need to bring or buy a cooler, beach chairs or towels. Both places hold Bike Weeks in October and March each year.
Deland is home to Stetson University and the Stetson Mansion wired for electricity by Thomas Edison himself, as well as multiple art museums and theaters.
De Leon Springs State Park is nearby with The Old Spanish Sugar Mill , famous for its pancakes made right at your table- a must for breakfast lovers. You can pack a picnic lunch and relax all day under the huge shade trees, enjoy canoeing on the river or a swim in the natural spring at this beautiful state park. The St John’s river runs through Deland and offers many types of activities at the nearby marina which also has a rustic seafood restaurant right on the water, and fishing near the Whitehair bridge on Hwy 44. The St Johns River also has lots of wildlife including alligators. The manatees winter at beautiful Blue Springs just 15 minutes away. If you do bring your boat, pay attention to the no wake and manatee zones to help protect the large "sea cows". The town just South of us, Sanford, has a Riverboat Cruise that is a great way of touring the river.

And of course, Orlando’s world class attractions are just an hour away, including Disney World, Epcot, Sea World, famous International Drive and Universal Studios with its newest Harry Potter themed attractions. Day trips might include U.S. Air Force Space & Missile Museum in Cape Canaveral, the world class Outlet shopping area in Saint Augustine- the oldest settlement in America, or a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. Gainesville, home to the University of Florida is two hours north and Florida’s gulf coast to the West is about 3 hours. Tarpon Springs on the Gulf coast is another easy day trip. Awesome off shore fishing is offered at several nearby marinas, weather permitting. These include Reel Deal Offshore Fishing in Ponce Inlet. Inside The Marigold Caribbean you'll find a guest binder which also lists the areas art museums, theaters and historic sites as well as recommendations from guests before you. Remember, you are visiting sunny Florida so take advantage of our wonderful weather to see everything this beautiful place offers.

The Daytona airport is only 25 minutes away as is the Sanford International Airport served by many European travelers. The Orlando International airport is approximately 1 hour away.

No contact with the host at all. Unit was ok for one person - very small table in kitchen. No laundry facilities. Bed was very comfortable and the unit was very clean.

I sent a long message soon after booking to the email that was used for the booking. That message had all the info about the unit, WIFI password etc and my contact cell. I live 3 miles from the unit and was on site every day during your visit.I'm easily accessible to my guests. The only thing I can think of is maybe a different person booked and didn't forward info. Kevin booked and LeeAnn reviewed. The person that booked would have had access to my contact info. Unless I get a text or call I don't enter rented units. There is a fully equipped laundry room with new washer/dryer just out of the doorway to the right.

Very cute, would book again

I really enjoyed my stay at the Marigold; it was comfortable and homey. Bill was super easy to deal with and checking in and out was a cinch! The neighborhood was very cute. Downtown DeLand is right down the street and DIS is less than a half hour away. Perfect!

Way more spacious than I anticipated. Clean and well stocked. Great parking spaces and ramp.

I was in town for Stetson graduation and preferred this type of accommodation over a hotel anyday. I could cook my own food and relax in the evening. The place is super close to downtown which makes it convenient and close to Spec Martin Stadium for easy access to graduation ceremony. I will be returning during Bike Week because it super close to Daytona and reasonably priced.

Just enough space, clean, comfortable, convenient Bring a nightlight or flashlight - the hall and bathroom light are off of the same switch and that's too much light if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

New Home Away From Home

My family and I have been doing weekends in DeLand for the past 4 years. We have stayed in many hotels in DeLand. This past weekend we chose the Marigold Resort and stayed in the Deland Marigold Carribean. This was our second booking at the Marigold Resort. Both stays have been pleasant, quiet and private. Any problems or questions have been addressed immediately. Prices are very reasonable compared to the rest of DeLand with more space to move around as compared to the high dollar smaller hotel units.

This Vrbo is as pictured. Upon entering, the odor was an old musty smell. The double door entrance is kind of a pain. There was a dead roach on the floor and one in the kitchen sink. The set up was odd. Overall, I’d rate this a 5 out of 10.

Clean property, awesome location!

I'm sure its a difficult thing to agree to host three large dogs, but Bill agreed without hassle and charged a reasonable pet fee, for which I am grateful. High marks for cleanliness and for the location, which is walking distance to the Main Street area, and to Lisa, the property manager, who was very friendly and accommodating. I think the listing should disclose that the A/C is "locked" to prevent guests from setting the temperature below 73 degrees. Although there is an additional fan unit in the dining area, it is very noisy and we found it impossible to sleep with it on (it was distracting even just having a conversation). Additionally, there is a good size TV in the bedroom, but I'm not sure it is fully functional (it was unplugged when we arrived and, although it turned on, the screen looked streaky- could have just been the lack of input). There is no connected input device, and it is not WiFi enabled, so if you want to watch TV in the bedroom, you will have to bring a DVD player or some kind of streaming device (assuming there's a connection on the TV, I didn't look that close since we didn't have anything like that). I couldn't figure out if some of the electrical outlets were not working or just finicky (kitchen/dining room) - I was able to reset the outlet in the dining room, but the kitchen outlets didn't want to work and resetting/checking the fuse box didn't make a difference. Although it was very quiet for most of our stay (and the other guests we met were super friendly), the guests/residents in the unit above ours had a 5-6 person get-together one night which we found pretty disruptive (loud voices and lots of stomping on the floor/ceiling until 1-2 in the morning). Overall, I truly enjoyed the convenience of this property and the graciousness of the host and would have been more prepared/understanding of the "surprises", had they been mentioned in the listing (as best as possible of course). And, again, the property was very clean and accommodating to an entire fur family, so the property delivered on the things that were most important to us. Thanks very much!

There was a receptacle out in the kitchen. I replaced the circuit breaker and its all good now. For the A/C temperature we have found that when its 90+ degrees outside 73 degrees inside feels comfortable to most people. We do adjust that lower in milder seasons which we should have done prior to this check in. The fan unit referred to is an emergency use wall A/C unit in the event the central system fails. We do have folks living in the upstairs unit. When they are walking around upstairs you can hear them downstairs. I have owned the place for11 years and people will say they notice sounds from upstairs but not enough to disrupt their stay. There was a 40" TV in the bedroom left by a guest who stayed with us for a couple of months. He used it with his x-box and I left it thinking someone in future might want to do the same. I have removed it. We do appreciate it when guests let us know about issues or problems.

Perfect Getaway Close to Everything

Can’t beat it for the price and location.

We love DeLand and the Marigold. While some updates could be made, the price is unbeatable and you shouldn’t be spending a lot of time inside while you are visiting DeLand. Too much to do, see and eat. Bill is a nice guy and I appreciate the eclectic feel of the house and it’s layout. Will stay again.

This property is old and needs a lot of work. The owner and manager were great. However there were bugs and the shower and tub were broken. Will not stay here again.

horrible!

dirty. roasting air can't be turned below 72. no garbage disposal. laundry is not in room it is public. poor kitchen supplies. only a straw broom, dust pan and filthy almost empty swiffer jet to clean the floors. smelly. bugs. hot water didn't need to be regulated with cold water because it didn't get very hot. disgusting traps on kitchen sink drains. an inch or 2 of mold at the top of the toilet bowl. very small tv. no bedroom tv. only 2 cooling vents on 1 side and no vents on the other side. it was miserable to try to cook in the kitchen. old appliances. shower was horrible. if there were any garbage bags i couldn't find them. absolutely horrible! sorry to whoever owns this place but i wish someone had left this review before i stayed there. wouldn't stay there again even if it was free

I personally inspected for cleanliness prior to this guest's stay and it was clean. When she checked out after 2 1/2 weeks it was a smelly mess. The word bugs was mentioned. The Marigold is and always has been under contract for quarterly pest control services by a professional pest control company. If a bug does get in, it quickly dies. The 72 degree lower limit on the A/C is good for most people. But based on this I will change the low temperature limit down to 68 degrees for all of my properties. The laundry room is in the hallway near the front door in the center of this 1900 Victorian home and is shared by two other people that live at the Marigold. Photos of this are clear in our online listing. The Caribbean has a well supplied kitchen which is also well photographed in the listing. The brand new straw broom seems to work well on the parquet floors. We do have other style brooms and cleaning supplies on site available on request. Our property manager lives on site and is very attentive to our guests. Hot water settings are a challenge to all owners. If I set the hot water temperature too high, we risk scalding people. What I usually do is set it to a high enough temperature that if it gets switched to max hot during a shower no one gets damaged skin. If a guest would like it adjusted higher, I'd be happy to comply. The TV is in an entertainment center clearly photographed in the listing and is a 32" which works well for the size of the room. There are no other TVs in the unit nor are they listed as available on the site. Our kitchen appliances are all new (within 5 years), work properly and are well maintained. I developed the Marigold 11 years ago and have had a lot of guests visit for varying lengths of time in the eight units there. Many of our guests come back year after year. My wife and I, as well as our on-site assistant property manager, work hard to help our guests enjoy the property and our city. Ya'll come and we will see that you have an enjoyable stay.

We stay there sometimes ourselves and I love to sit on the couch in the bay window and read with the natural light. Its so peaceful and I love the bells from St Peter's across the street. There is a serenity of the place that feels like country even though you're near the center of town. And if you're a theater buff you can walk to the Athens for a play and have a leisurely stroll home after a nice glass of wine at Elusive Grape.

The Marigold was nice and clean. It had everything we needed for our stay. It was an excellent location so close to downtown we were able to walk to all of our activities. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Marigold to anyone looking for a place to stay in DeLand.

Translation: "We are already the third time in Deland and have always spent wonderful days in this house. It has charm and plenty of room. It is within walking distance of downtown." Reply: We love hosting repeat guests. The Marigold is a great place to enjoy peace and quite and walk to center of town in 20 minutes when you like. Looking forward to hosting a future stay.

I am a native Floridian. There are a lot of nice cities in Florida and my two favorite small towns are Deland on the east side of the state and Cedar Key due west on the Gulf of Mexico.

I started buying houses to rent as an investment while I had a full time day job, my first in 1985 and I still own it - the Cedar House of Deland. My full time job today is managing the vacation rentals and short stay properties that I own.

I have several in Deland: The Units of the Deland Marigold, Grandma's Place, and The Cedar House. I also have two in Cedar Key: The TreeHouse and Goose Cove Cottage.

I enjoy what I do and am passionate about seeing that my guests have a great experience while staying in one of my properties.

This property is located only 4 blocks from the center of Deland, an historic town with a rich culture going back to the Mid 1800’s. It has been voted the Best Small Town in America several times. This property’s
location is in a very private enclave that most people don’t even know is there with close proximity to historic downtown full of locally-owned shops and restaurants.. It’s as if you are in the quiet of the country. You can hear the bells of St Peters Cathedral across the street and even the gentle waters of their fountain. It is within walking distance of the beautiful campus of Stetson University and also only 3 miles away from the St. Johns River.

Inside, the unit is laid out like a residence Inn with a master bedroom and bathroom, huge living room, and a large fully equipped kitchen. Adjacent to the living area is a front patio that overlooks the landscaped yard, a relaxing place for morning coffee or tea. The whole property is designed for comfort and quietness.
