Douro Valley Retreat

Our stay at Dajas Douro Valley was great. The check in was easy - Alexandra was a wonderful host and treated us very special. The property is amazing and you will want to stay and enjoy it. We fell in love with the area and would love to go back.

Relaxing in the Douro

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival after a long drive and were delighted and blown away by the standard of the accommodation, hospitality and the view! Having the mini shop on site helped us with an easy dinner with local wines from the Douro to choose from. We were then shown our room with our own private pool and amazing views down the river! A great and relaxing three days!

Douro Valley Getaway

Our stay was wonderful! The property photos are very accurate. This is a unique rental - it’s more like a resort with private villas. The main building where breakfast is served daily is a treasure. The staff were amazing and helpful. Alexandra was attentive and always available to answer questions..the arranged wine tasting on the property was also amazing. Our group of four would definitely return. Excellent property and you feel well taken care of by all! Thank you Alexandra for a wonderful experience..

Perfect Stay

We had an amazing time here with a group of 8 friends. Alexandra is a fantastic host - she set up a boat cruise, a private chef and wine tastings for us as well as arranged for us to have a driver. The property is wonderful - better than the pictures even. It was very clean and every bedroom had it's own private bathroom. We will definately be back.

Relaxing hideaway!

Amazing, super chill place to hang out and experience a quite retreat in portugal. The host is amazing and goes out of her way to supply everything. You really dont have to leave the property if you do not want to. She arranged a boat tour, wine tasting, and private chef for us!!

Magical retreat

When we reached the property we knew we were in for a treat. The property is so comfortable. Our family had a perfect stay, we swam, played football, hung with the sheep, played pool ok the pool table and so much more. Alex was so helpful at check in and throughout our stay. She arranged a river boat trip for us that was absolutely heaven. We hope to return some day!

Beautiful location on the Douro

We came together as a family of 5 adults plus partners for 1 week to celebrate a 60th birthday. Plenty of space for all both inside and out (balcony, pool area, fire pit). The host, Alexandra, was really helpful and organised extras for us - a wine tasting & chef‘s 7-course dinner (& cake!) at the house plus a boat trip with picnic. The view from the property is just beautiful. There are plenty of good restaurants & food shops within less than 30 minutes drive.

Look no more, THIS is the rental you’ve been waiting for

Cannot begin to explain how phenomenal our stay was at this beautiful property. We were greeted in person by our host who welcomed us like family, she arranged a private chef for dinner upon our arrival which was the best meal we had in all of Portugal. Also arranged a private wine tasting at the house which was so personal and memorable. Our two nights here will not soon be forgotten and we will absolutely be back again. You will not regret booking this location, it was truly the best stay we’ve experienced.

Best Part of our Vacation

An amazing property and Alexandra the owner is just incredibly nice and really accommodating. Great wines available and you can request a chef cooked meal which we did and truly enjoyed. The chef accommodated gluten free for one of our party which was great as well. Truly a beautiful home with everything you need to relax and use as a base for wine tours, hiking etc… Only an hour from Porto. The pool was perfect as was the terrace. Rooms were well equipped with great and firm beds. We cooked multiple meals in the kitchen as well which was a big plus. Truly was our favorite part of the vacation and we spent 2+ weeks in Portugal.

An unforgettable experience

We had an amazing time at Alexandra’s place celebrating our friend’s 50th birthday. She was by far the most personable and helpful host we have ever had-from setting up our chef dinner experience to arranging our boat tour, to sharing wine and fado music with us all. The property is so beautiful. We stayed three days-I wish it had been a week. Highlights included each bedroom having a private bath, the pool, the gorgeous views, and a truly unforgettable dinner at the house on our first night. Alexandra even brought a birthday cake and sparkling wine to celebrate. I hope one day we can return!

What a place!

5 college girlfriends from California and Washington State celebrating our milestone birthdays stayed her for 4 nights. It was fabulous. It can be tricky to find but that's because we don't speak the language. The owners are the best. Met us at the house, showed us around and booked a private chef and a Douro boat tour which they suggested and we loved. Having the wine available at our fingertips was such an added bonus and the prices were beyond reasonable. Bedrooms and bathrooms were all a nice size. The view day and night was spectacular. We would definitely stay here again! Obrigada!

Niece's 40th birthday

We celebrated my niece's 40th birthday in Portugal. We feel very lucky to actually have stayed on the Duoro River. The house was only an hour from Porto so we were able to go in for an extra shopping day. It was also only 1.5 hours or a bit less from Pinhao and we really enjoyed port tasting and a boat ride. Dinner at the DOC restaurant was amazing. I highly recommend the house. Beautiful views, pool, terrace and fireplace. The chef experience was also great. Alexandra was so wonderful as well. One comment on location...once we figured out how to get in and out, it was easy but beware gps. Alexandra was instrumental in getting us on the right road! We loved it...definitely include in your itinerary!

Paradise on the Douro

We had a lovely four-night stay at Casa do Rio to cap off our 2019 summer vacation. We are a family of five with three young boys and the house was absolutely perfect for us. The boys LOVED the soccer field, pool, playhouse and most of all feeding the farm animals every morning! Jumping in the Douro just down the hill was another fun bonus. Bread delivery in the morning was a dream. Catered dinner from the local restaurant was also fantastic. Alexandra was there to meet us at check-in and very communicative for the duration of our stay, helping us book a boat cruise on the river and a picnic and tasting at a fantastic winery. If we are fortunate enough to return someday, there is plenty of room to bring another family along. Thank you for everything, Alexandra! Hope to see you again someday!

Porto Stay

I spent MONTHS researching homes and Villas for our Porto Douro Valley stay. I was hunting for a place that was really special and close enough to Porto, about 1 hour, but away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. We were 4 adults traveling for a week. Tatiana, hotel manager met us as we arrived and explained the workings of the villa/hotel. The stunning villa is brand new, opened just 3 weeks ago, and is located in the Douro valley for absolutely ideal peace and quiet. It was exceptionally clean and in excellent working order. We all loved the incredible views of the river and valley along with the soothing sounds of the birds and roosters in the morning. The pools were refreshing and beautiful as well as the whole property. Lemon and orange trees lined the property and our early snack before breakfast consisted of an orange fresh off the tree and a huge sweet lemon. UNBELIEVABLE!!! A huge full breakfast was available if ordered and it was well worth the small fee charged. IT WAS PERFECT!!!! Thank You Alexandra and Tatiana and staff for the ideal relaxed stay to end our Portugal visit.

Two couples food and wine touring

We were two couples traveling the Douro River to experience the food and wine of northern Portugal. We stayed two weeks at the house and used it as our base. We thoroughly enjoyed the house. Porto is about an hour drive and other major port houses along the Douro to the east are about an hour away, also. The house is in Vinho Verde region and there are a few wineries about 30 minutes away offering great wines. And then there is the fabulous, large, low-priced wine selection at the house. The access roads to the house from town are narrow and can be tricky to navigate and it was a 15-20 minute drive to the nearest town but overall we found the location to be central to everything we wanted to do, even if not as convenient as we hoped. After all, it is rural Portugal. The house has fabulous views of the river from the deck and is a great place to relax. We enjoyed lounging by the pool, but it is unheated and the weather was cool so we did not get to use it as much as we hoped . Alexandra, our host, was very responsive and excellent to work with. She arrange a private chef to cook for us one night. She also arranged for a hot catered meal to be delivered to us another night and also arranged a wonderful boat cruise with a picnic lunch on an island in the Douro River. I can't say enough good things about our two weeks and everything Alexandra did for us. I highly recommend a stay at this wonderful house.

Amazing location and a memorable experience

Our host, Alex Martins, at Casa Do Rio was not only highly accessible, she accommodated every one of our requests. She also greeted us on arrival, with her beautiful family. There was fresh traditional breads delivered every morning. The place is immaculate, the accommodations are first class, and the grounds well kept. We loved how available Alex was throughout our stay. we could send her a message at any time with a question or request. We took advantage of ordering meals in a couple of times. This service was excellent and handled by Alex. The food was delicious and came in quite large portions. Alex also helped us with arranging a boat excursion. The three hour Douro River was certainly a must while staying at the villa. The boat will meet you at the dock just below the property. We enjoyed the sports and games that were available. We played bocce, swam in the pool, and had a competitive game of billiards each evening. From the villa there are numerous hikes that you can take. One very memorable one was one that took us up river on a public, well marked trail for a couple of miles. We were up high so new views of the river kept opening up as we walked. The view across the river was mesmerizing. There is an ancient abandoned winery that has numerous buildings on a terraced slope. Overall, we couldn’t have been more pleased with Casa Do Rio, including the quality of staff that help to deliver a memorable experience.

The Casa is PERFECT!

We LOVED our stay at Casa Do Rio! The Case itself is outstanding, the rooms are ample, the accommodations were above expectations and the grounds are beautiful. Alexandra was a perfect host. We were able to book a private river tour with short notice. The recommendations for restaurants were outstanding. We would give this 10 stars if we could.

Top week met de familie

We hebben een heerlijke week gehad met de hele familie (7 volwassenen) in Casa do Rio. In het riante huis met 4 slaapkamers en 4 badkamers was er veel ruimte ruimte voor iedereen, ook in de woonkamer. We hebben vooral genoten van het terras en de tuin waar we met een prachtig uitzicht konden borrelen en eten. Bij mooi weer hebben we veel rondom en in het zwembad gezeten en bij minder mooi weer bood het biljart uitkomt. De omgeving is prachtig en vele uitstapjes waard. Onze gastvrouw was goed bereikbaar voor vragen, adviezen en het regelen van activiteiten. Kortom we hebben een top week gehad!
