  • Truly Magnificant first time visit to Costa Rica thanks to Amanda at Casa Del Mar

"My boyfriend Vince and I stayed at Casa Del Mar over Thanksgiving in 2016. Manzanillo is a beautiful village and we stayed at the best Casita hands down. The casita is even more beautiful then the pictures! From the adorable layout to the beautiful garden - we could not have asked for a better place to feel comfortable while truly soaking in the Caribbean Costa Rican Culture. The casita was clean, not too small not too big, right off of the black sand beach with so many activities right outside our porch. This was the first vacation I had taken utilizing VRBO and Amanda set the bar extremely high! She helped us with anything you could think of, which we greatly appreciated given this was our first time to Costa Rica. We arrived extremely late in the evening and Amanda stayed and greeted us with a warm welcome. From that point on, I felt a level of comfort that I didn't think I could experience so early in a foreign land. She gave us tips on where to eat, shop and go on adventures. She also facilitated a Private Hike of which I could tell stories for a lifetime from. Tino was the professional guide that Amanda knew and he spoiled us with a true Jungle Adventure. Then Amanda also facilitated a zip lining adventure through a wonderful organization. Both experiences were unforgettable! Thank you AMANDA! We were also surrounded by so many natural resources through Amanda's garden - which was a gift in itself. I hope to visit this beautiful piece of heaven on earth and see Amanda again - she is truly a wonderful person that Vince and I were honored to meet. Thank you for a TRIP OF A LIFETIME!"

  • Experience all that Costa Rica has to offer at this property

"This property is beautiful! You have the jungle in your backyard with so much jungle life all around you. And the path to the beach is a short and very wonderful walk. The beach is beautiful and goes for miles in both directions with so much privacy. We were traveling with 8 people (4 adults/4 kiddos aged 12, 13, 15, 16) and had plenty of space inside of out. Definitely bring flash lights and binoculars to explore this wonderous property. What we liked about the property - everything! -the privacy, the beauty, the jungle and the the beach -within walking distance to restaurants and grocery -within biking distance to shops and other beaches (many beaches to explore) -the outdoor living space is amazing - like no other we have seen before - it is huge and very clean and very well covered. We were there during a tropical storm and nothing leaked. It was amazing to be able to be outside to hear and see the rain and experience the jungle. Can't imagine staying anywhere else - rain or shine this is where you want to be -air condition in the bedrooms -inside living space was very roomy as well as the bedrooms - very large -sliding doors that open to outdoor living space -2 foot showers and an outside shower Please know the kitchen and dining area are all outside - the fridge, stove, cabinets, trash, tables, chairs, everything. **If you like to cook (which we did for almost every meal) the outdoor kitchen can be challenging if you are used to a lot of amenities. You can not store any dry food outside unless it is sealed tight, as jungle creatures will find there way to the patio while you are sleeping. You have to be sure and clean/wash everything as soon as you are done cooking as the bugs/ants are quick to act on food that is out. The kitchen amenities are very basic due to this. Would recommend to bring a very sharp kitchen knife and there is no cutting board. Would also recommend bringing Ziploc bags as there is not much to store leftover food in. No complaint at all -we loved it - just informing since it is not really noted anywhere. The caretakers on the property will accommodate any needs you have - you just have to let them know. Communication is key. Amelie is wonderful, responsive and very informative. If you have any questions just ask her as she is very open and honest and gives wonderful recommendations to whatever you are interested in."

  • Great location and a beautiful private setting

"A group of 8 of us stayed 4 nights here at Reloj De Arena. Our ages ranged from 15-43. We absolutely LOVED the property and the area. The only reason I am not giving a 5 stars is a few things with the house. It definitely was not the cleanest. And the shower water was either freezing or scalding hot. Not exaggeration at all. And no hot water in the kitchen to wash dishes. Also we wouldn't put food in the pantry cause they had a very strong strange smell. I think they are just old and need to be tossed out. BUT, with all that being said we had a wonderful time and made everything work. I would stay here again in a heart beat! The property, privacy, location, it all was beyond perfect! We loved Cruz the grounds keeper. He was very entertaining and so nice! The walk to the beach was literally about 2 min max. The river flows right along the path and the beach was SO gorgeous! We rented kayaks right on the beach to take up the river. It only cost $10 for an hour and a half. We saw a few sloths along the path and tons of turtles swimming in the river. The ocean water was perfect temp and everyone we met around there was extremely nice. It was a short drive up to Puerto Viejo. They had lots of fun shopping and restaurants there. And a little further up from there is the jaguar rescue center. Another must! $20 dollars per person. We enjoyed a couple nights out in the gazebo area of the house as well. As long as you are expecting the few inconveniences you will be super happy here! The bedrooms are large and the beds were extremely comfortable. And the kitchen and dining area also had plenty of room for all of us! We will be back here for sure! I wrote up a blog post about the house and area. www.wanderingglenn.com"

  • Family loved it!

"Genny and her family are living the dream - and you can share it :) - their property is very well kept and is surrounded on 3 sides by rainforest. We heard birds all day and frogs at night, saw blue morpho butterflies flutter by, a couple of toucans come through and hunted for frogs by their pond. The house is very well equipped and the perfect size for us (a family of 4). The casa is a short walk to the black beach and good snorkeling is just a bit further toward town. We had a car, but you could get along without it - beach, markets, restaurants and shops all close walking distance (5-10 minutes). Some good eats nearby - Ghetto Girl Soda (my kids liked their chocobananos) and Bread and Chocolate was great too - the first, Ghetto girl, is closer, cheaper & the plates were huge and Bread and Chocolate was fancy and more expensive (try something with the BBQ jerk sauce) but both were excellent! Go and have a great time!"
