  • Cute and unique near-jungle experience

"A perfect sized place for two with a cozy bedroom expanding to the outside and an upper deck, inside living room, or pool to relax in. The bathroom with rainfall showerhead is spacious. Plus, the unique bulbous, flowing shape is neat. John and Eric were greatly appreciated with their attentiveness and hospitality as onsite hosts, personally hailing cabs (and rehailing them when you leave your phone in one of them--which was returned successfully) :) Great location nearby to Puerto Viejo and Playa Negra. If you rent a bike (shout out to Monkey Bike Rentals), then pretty much any beach location or nearby town is accessible."

  • Nice home, beautiful pool, close to town and the beach

"We had a great time staying at The Hideout. There were some pros and some cons. Pros: It was definitely one of the nicer homes in Cahuita and was about a 10-15 minute walk to the main strip in town. The house had a nice open floor plan, a lovely large porch with a dining table and seating area and three double/queen beds in the main house. Two of the rooms are adjoined and share an air conditioner. The third bedroom does not have air conditioning. There were a fair number of mosquitos and biting bugs so we slept with the windows closed and it would have been very stuffy indeed without the air conditioning. There was also a TV and DVD player with many adult and kid movies. There is also a separate building with a second outdoor kitchen area, tables and hammocks in the shade. In the other building there is another screened in sleeping area with two double beds. We considered sleeping there to avoid the noisy air conditioning and still have some fresh air while screened in. The pool was amazing- warm and nicely done. There was a clean, modern washing machine and a dryer although some of our clothes came out with rust colored stains on them. We got to see some bird and many huge iguanas in the trees next door and lots of little geckos in and around the house. The cats from next door would pay us visits at night. Lastly, Manuel took amazing care of us and came quickly whenever we needed him. Cons: As with almost every beach rental I have ever stayed in, the weather has taken its toll on this house. The hardware is rusting and the kitchen and bathroom need a serious deep clean. I'm sure it wouldn't matter where you stayed but every night millipedes and a couple of cockroaches would be dead lying about in the morning. The kitchen was also infested with tiny ants. Manuel came and sprayed ant killer. The fitted sheets had lost some of their elasticity and pulled into a little ball in the middle of the bed every time we slept on them. The pool seemed to be experiencing some issues with algae and would be clean after cleaning but full of algae balls again the next day. Manuel took this seriously and came to clean frequently. I suspect there needs to be better chemical management. If you want to stay in Cahuita, I would recommend this property. Just realize that you are in a third world country in a tropical climate. Also, Cahuita air was very smoky everyday which the locals said was normal."

  • Honeymoon/Vacation

"We absolutely loved staying here! It was perfect for our honeymoon getaway. Pamela was very friendly and helpful to us. Such a beautiful house and a gorgeous yard! If you didnt go to the beach, the private pool was also a great place to relax and stay cool. It was a great vacation to get away, you experienced the jungle out you're front door!"
