  • Location perfetta

  • An interesting stay in ortigia

"After some traffic issues to find the parking address and try not to go down the major ,but narrow, pedestrian street, we finally made it to the quiet and spacious accommodation. It has a shabby chic interior. There is very little daylight into the long deep space as it only has doors with small windows facing the street. The Windows do not open. There is another light well besides the bedroom area but this also has very little daylight. As the photos show you must keep the lights on for day and night use. It also is a little damp and requires use of the air conditioning. Natural ventilation isn't very good. The location is good and very close to the Main Street and Duomo."

  • Casa Marlene - Lovely Apartment

"Myself and my wife Shirley stayed for 1 week in Casa Marlene, Syracusa between 19/6/16 & 26/6/16. The Fabio and Emilie who look after the apartment were very accommodating and arranged to collect us both from Syracusa bus station by and take us both by taxi for the 5 minutes drive to the apartment location in Ortigia. The location of the apartment is perfect for a holiday in Ortigia/Syracusa. It is right in the heart of a historic district and approx 150 metres from the Duomo and it's lovely piazza (very lively in the evening). Also, the apartment is just 100 metres from the sea front and the historic Fontana Artusa. We were informed by Fabio that the building in which the apartment is located dates back to the year 1699 which is amazing. It is very spacious with high ceilings and decorated in a very traditional Italian period style with antique furnishings to match. There are also two spacious bathrooms too and an additional walk in wardrobe room which was very useful. The only slight problem is the low water pressure which we got used to. Apparently, the island of Ortigia has very low water pressure with it having old pipework in an ancient part of Sicily. We had some problems with Wi-Fi in the apartment too but Fabio purchased a router and installed it the next day which was good of him. However, we did receive a charge of 30.00 EUR for the Wi-Fi unit on departure which was surprising. Note also, that the electricity usage is not included. There is a metre reading at the beginning and the end of your stay and the usage is deducted from your deposit which is fine. For us it was only around 12 Euros for 1 week. Be careful to switch the hot water boiler off though each day after using it otherwise it will affect your total electricity usage during your stay. The accommodation is very quiet at night. The large king size bed was very comfortable. The outside space is nice for breakfasts and relaxing after a day sight seeing or evening out. There are lots good restaurants in Syracusa & churches too. The market is about 10 mins walk and open every day close to the temple of Apollo. Fresh fruit, meats, fish, vegetables etc.... are all traded there by the very traditional & lively market stall holders....... well worth a visit. Also another 'don't miss' is the ancient Greek Theatre, Roman Ampitheatre, Temple Hieron II and Ear of Dionaissus (Cave). We very much recommend Casa Marlene and Ortigia for a holiday.
