  • Charming villa in fantastic location

"Villa Berni is as described just outside Florence with a stunning view of the city from the Tower Bedroom. The garden is lovely to relax in during the day and the whole setting is wonderfully peaceful and rural. The pool whilst not large is great for a cooling dip after a hot day seeing the sights in Florence. We were a party of 4 couples, my wife and I and our 3 grown up children with their partners. The villa was plenty spacious enough, we could easily have catered for more! We hired a car in Pisa and drove over to the villa; I would say a car is essential as the supermarket is a few kms down the hill so lugging heavy shopping back up the hill in relatively high temperatures would not have worked for us, without a car. However as there were 8 of us arriving at different times, we also made use of Marco Berni's minibus service. He was great, taking us almost up to the door of the leaning tower of Pisa, also to Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and my favourite of all, a wine-tasting at Castello di Verrazzano. He was very interesting to talk to about Tuscan life and very patient on the night we ended up waiting for him in the wrong square in Florence! Again as described the bus service into Florence from the bottom of the hill is reliable and the youngsters used that as a means of doing their own thing in the city. We also experienced the wonderful Tuscan cooking of Mina, Marco's mother, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It was delicious! We also had a Sicilian meal prepared for us which was also quite a treat. Any downsides....only the mosquitoes, so have some insect repellent handy; otherwise I would heartily recommend this villa as we had a marvellous holiday there."

"We traveled in February 2016 to both Italy and France. This home was our second place of residence for 5 nights. Out of the 4 homes we rented.....this was by far the best of all of them. It is in an old Hotel called the Piccadilly. Front door is entered by a key code for security. Elevator takes you to the first floor where Glass sliding doors with another code is entered. (very, very safe) motion lights greet you as you walk from space to space. Once in the apartment, you will be totally happy that you rented such a beautiful spacious space. Most was quiet. The apartment faces the inner courtyard (away from street traffic) ... Owner greeted us and gave us the needed information where to eat (Garga's I believe is the name within 5 minutes) Best, best food. This apartment has a washer and dryer (you can only use one appliance at a time). We had a party of 4 so washing clothes was very important to us on our 18 days of travel. We found out that the Duomo was within 15 minutes of the apartment. But if you wish to travel to the bridges, I do recommend a taxi. Across the street is a new business called "Fox in the Box" a clue type game (1 hour) lots of fun. I must say that this trip was on my bucket list for 15 years. Loved every minute of it. All in all I would highly recommend this home. (Only exception) Bedrooms are on upper levels. If you have trouble walking up stairs, then this may not be the place for you..... but if you don't have trouble with stairs...then this is the place for you to rent. Clean sheets, clean apartment, perfect in every way. There is one full bathroom downstairs off of the living room area. There is a Half bath in the master bedroom and a full bath in the second full bedroom. Loft area has two (2) pull out sofas. The two that slept in this area said they were very comfortable."
