  • Urban Location in Historic Morelia

"This apartment is ideal if you like urban settings in an historic neighborhood. Its location is convenient for shopping, about a 10 - 15 minute walk to Morelia Cathedral, and a 5 minute walk to the aqueduct. There is a bus stop in front of condo, and restaurants of all types and prices are nearby. For shopping, the apartment is across from "Tu Plaza” and "Mercado Revolución". The former sells mainly clothing. The latter sells fruits, vegetables, meats, flowers, etc. Both have a large selection of cafes and snack bars. There's a 24 hour pharmacy (Guadalajara) three blocks away. Supermercados (Soriana, for example) and a large shopping center (Las Américas) are a 15-30 minute bus or taxi ride from the apartment. Taxis are plentiful, and most public transport is on "colectivos" (15 passenger vans). The color coded colectivo route system is fairly easy to learn. Fare is 7 pesos as of July 2016. Pay the driver upon entry, or if you don't have your money ready, just take a seat and ask your fellow passengers to pass your fare forward (drivers will make change, but not from large banknotes). It's customary for passengers to greet one another upon entry / exit with a simple “buenos(-as) días/tarde/noche". A good interactive website for colectivos is at For trips outside of Morelia, the TAM (Terminal Autobuses Morelia) is northwest of centro (use taxi or colectivo). Morelia is safe (with the usual precautions one takes in any large city). The parks (Villagongín, for example) are beautiful. Historic sites (cathedral, churches, chapels, sanctuaries, aqueduct, etc.) are all well maintained. One important point about this apartment - it's fantastic if you are accustomed to city living. The market starts setting up at 5:30AM, and by 7AM the street is busy. Personally I found it fascinating. However, if you're not accustomed to this sort of neighborhood activity, this might not be the best choice. However, the rooftop terrace is very private - with great views of the hills surrounding Morelia. The owner has an office about 10 minutes from the apartment with a staff that can help with difficulties or answer questions. We were very satisfied with the service. In the apartment, there is a helpful list of restaurants, attractions, and emergency contacts (hospital, doctors, dentists, etc.). There is also a large library of books, including guide books."

Carmen Elvira Quesada"

  • Charmiing, well-loved place overlooking the lake.

"We could not have asked for a more perfect location on Lake Zirahuen right on the lake. We were treated to the most spectacular lightning show across the lake toward the mountains, lighting up the lake as though Greek God Zeuss was conducting the show himself! Our hosts could not have been more caring, considerate and paid attention to every little detail both before and during our stay. We had compared other places to stay at the lake and by far preferred this one. We had the opportunity to check out another place close by that friends of ours were staying in and theirs did not come close to El Alto Lucero. The other place being dirty and beyond rustic, lacked almost every utensil, cookware, or appliance a kitchen would need for even a short stay and their community center was a joke. Needless to say, we were so thrilled with ours that we plan a return trip soon."

  • Fantastico!

"Bekky and Mile’s casita was truly amazing. We say this at the risk of enticing yet more people to their casita and reducing our chances of re-visiting! The casita was beautifully furnished and comfortable. We enjoyed all the artwork; pottery, paintings etc. We wanted for nothing as it was so thoughtfully organized and equipped. Now for the best part: Both Bekky and Miles are wonderful people; kind, thoughtful and absolutely delightful and charming to spend time with. Thanks to you both for a great visit. Volveremos pronto!"
