  • Wonderful house

"Just got back from spending a full week at Starry Oaks Cottage with my mother and adult daughter. The 3 bedrooms were perfect for us, and we were very comfortable. The house is lovingly decorated and has many great amenities. Everything was very clean, and the location is beautiful! The drive to King's Canyon did take about 40-45 minutes, but the location is great in that there are restaurants and a gas station (very important!) within a 15 minute drive. The A/C worked well, and there was plenty of hot water when we all wanted to get cleaned up after a long hot day of hiking. Loved seeing the quails and rabbits every day at the birdbath since it was an easy water source during the extreme heat when we visited! Elaine was very helpful throughout the reservation and check-in process, and refunded the security deposit before we even got home. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend the house. I hope to be able to return in the future."

  • PERFECT!!! Wonderful place. Rustic and peaceful. All the comforts without any of the distractions.

"Excellent place to take your family. You can keep a watchful eye on small children from a central location. Chris and Jim were wonderful hosts. We are so happy with our stay we (7 families) unanimously voted to stay here again next year. We highly recommend the catered breakfast and dinner. Everyone could start our day at the same time, take off and explore and know dinner was waiting. No clean up. We could all enjoy the fire pit with hot coco and put the little ones to bed with eyes on baby monitors and cabin doors. There was plenty for all ages to do and explore."

  • Rental for Guys Hiking Week

"Seven active senior men hikers rented The Red House for 5 nights in early September 2016.  During our stay, we found The Red House to be very functional, clean, efficient and comfortable.  We spent every day hiking beautiful trails in Sequoia NF & Kings Canyon NP, but we started every day by making breakfast, coming back after hiking to shower, enjoying an after-hike libation on the back patio, then going to dinner, returning for a good night’s sleep.  The Red House met all of our needs and accommodated this daily schedule nicely.  The Red House fits well into its rural setting, with basic amenities, simple, comfortable furnishings, all the appropriate & necessary appurtenances and decorating.  Though this description may not fit everyone’s preferences or style, it worked well for us. The location of The Red House was good for our hiking venues in Sequoia and Kings Canyon NPs, being perhaps 10-12 miles from the park entrance. This was about as close as we could get to the park entrance with a rental house, without actually staying in the park. However, the property is located on Highway 245, which is a very windy road (along with many others in the area), increasing driving times to the parks, to gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants, as speeds must be reduced.   The property manager was easy to deal with and responsive with communications. She returned my security deposit shortly after the end of our rental period. Overall, our consensus is we received good value for our rental of this property and would recommend it to those that are fine with simple, comfortable and functional."
