  • Wonderful house

"Just got back from spending a full week at Starry Oaks Cottage with my mother and adult daughter. The 3 bedrooms were perfect for us, and we were very comfortable. The house is lovingly decorated and has many great amenities. Everything was very clean, and the location is beautiful! The drive to King's Canyon did take about 40-45 minutes, but the location is great in that there are restaurants and a gas station (very important!) within a 15 minute drive. The A/C worked well, and there was plenty of hot water when we all wanted to get cleaned up after a long hot day of hiking. Loved seeing the quails and rabbits every day at the birdbath since it was an easy water source during the extreme heat when we visited! Elaine was very helpful throughout the reservation and check-in process, and refunded the security deposit before we even got home. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend the house. I hope to be able to return in the future."

  • Perfect vacation

"In my opinion, this is the perfect house in a perfect setting. A time to bond with family members, to unplug, to stargaze at nights, and to simply enjoy the magnificent nature nearby. We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away and have a real vacation. And what a fine, helpful, and courteous host/hostess they are."

  • SWEET Views and close to Sequoia-Kings Canyon

"This darling home was the perfect jumping off point for our visit to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park. We made it from the cabin to the Big Stump Entrance in about 20 minutes each time we drove it. There is no easy way to get anywhere in this part of the country: the roads fold and twist around the rough terrain but Dan and Cindy's cabin was FAR closer than driving up from Three Rivers to see the northern sights. (We know this because we stayed in Three Rivers the later part of our trip!!!) And the views??? Outstanding. My husband has a high stress job, and when we stepped out of the car to look over the hills and valleys I watched his whole body relax. Do yourself a favor while you're in the cabin: get up early enough to see the sunrise and watch the mist move through the hills up from the San Joaquin valley in the distance. Gorgeous. Silent and peaceful. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook full meals in the morning and at night. We stopped for groceries in Fresno on the way up (there's not much in the way of a full grocer once you reach the park)and found that there were plenty of spices/sugar/salt in the home. Having a washer and dryer was a HUGE bonus after hiking in the woods for several days!!! While there is a swamp cooler, we never used it while we were there. We were gone during the hottest parts of the day and by the time we got back each evening a strong breeze was blowing through the open windows and it cooled down quickly. Reading through previous reviews about the roads is puzzling. Yes, the driveway is steep and unpaved but we had NO problem in a standard car. Nor did we have any issues with the provided directions. I can see how a night time arrival might be tricky but there's nothing scary or precarious about the approach to the house. I suppose if we weren't used to hills it might be intimidating but if your drive through Sequoia-Kings Canyon you'll find that ALL the roads are like this...especially the ones that take you to the quiet 'secret' trails no one else frequents. We hit the highlights while in the park: The General Grant, The Sherman Tree and Moro Rock but the BEST trails were the ones that require some effort to get to: we drove WAY past Big Meadows to hike Marvin Pass (got chased back down the mountain by thunder and hail) and drove all the way to Road's End (so completely worth the drive)and hiked past Mist Falls to Paradise Valley. Lovely."

  • Wonderful Cabin

"Our family of four stayed at Sandy and Herb's cabin for several days on our family vacation to Kinds Canyon and Sequoia National Park. We absolutely loved our stay. The cabin is clean and beautiful, with all the amenities you need. Having two kids 3 and under, we really appreciated having a full washer and dryer in the cabin, and they even provided detergent! The kitchen was large, with a large and spotless refrigerator, and with all the accoutrements that allowed us to have large family dinners every night. You definitely need to plan ahead and bring food. There aren't too many stores around the area, but we loved how remote the cabin was. It truly felt like a getaway. The icing on the cake was that hours after we left, Sandy emailed me that she found my three year old boy's beloved big bird toy that we left behind. She put it in the mail to us right away! They are such nice people and have a great attention to detail. We will definitely stay with them again on every trip we take back to that area. Thank you Sandy and Herb - we had a wonderful stay and appreciate all your hospitality!"
