  • Wonderful Vacation Spot

"What a great spot. Old cabins on the outside upgraded to be comfortable places to stay on the inside. Peace and tranquility. No need to put a bunch of people in the same house and constantly be looking at each other. When we wanted to be away from each other we were able to. I never had the opportunity to stay in a vacation rental like this. Usually, we get one house and all of us stay together. It works out well but I never had a chance to appreciate being able to be together but at the same time being able to go to your separate quarters when you wanted to. Everything was more than adequate. I especially appreciated the owner putting two hot tubs on the deck. One hot tub would never be enough for everybody to enjoy and with two hot tubs, all of us were able to use the hot tubs until we decided to go to bed. Our time was spent exploring Tahoe City, which is beautiful. Restaurants abound. There are so many it is hard to pick one. Jakes at the lake was our favorite. You can’t go wrong. We had a chance to do most of our skiing at North star. It is a little bit of a drive but it is also nice to be in the middle of things. I would recommend Houston camp to any family or group of friends who wants to have some alone time at the same time they are enjoying each other. The word or the phrase is ‘Old Tahoe.’ I don’t know when these cabins were built but it is obvious they were built some time ago. The owners have taken the time to upgrade everything to make it more than comfortable. The kitchen is more than adequate for cooking. There is not much in the negative that I can think to say about Houston camp. The only thing I can say is we got a lot of snow and that made things a little more difficult than normal but that would be true no matter where you were staying. The company managing Houston camp did a great job and was there for any questions or problems. We will be coming back. I want to be able to check out the private beach sometime this summer. Hopefully, the place doesn’t rent out before we have a chance to make a reservation. Thank you to Houston camp for presenting an opportunity to us to enjoy a great vacation."

  • Decent house for a group.

"Depending on which direction you are coming from, the drive up the the house can be treacherous with ice and snow. So, use Old County Road to get here from the west. The house was nice inside and clean. Most of the TVs are dated (they are flat screens, but don't have HDMI inputs). We brought a Chromecast to cast Pandora and Netflix, but we couldn't. The hot tub was awesome and didn't give us any issues. The kitchen worked for what we needed and had just enough utensils for us to do what we needed to do. There were a few minor drawbacks. One of the bathroom door handles came apart from the inside the first time we used it. Someone had somehow tried to use aluminum foil to hold it in place. We used our own hex key to tighten it up. Since it was winter, there was no grill. So, we brought up a smoker. It turns out they don't clear the deck of snow (even when the weather is low 60s and sunny). So, we spent time clearing the snow so that we could access the side door and the back deck for the smoker. There was also a decent cornice of snow hanging off the roof creating a rain curtain out the back door and a worry of cars getting clobbered in the front. We were able to fit all of our cars (five cars, an SUV, and a pickup), which was key since we couldn't carpool as much as we wanted. Just a heads up, the rental manager, Hausermam Group, made some sort of comment that if you book this directly through them, it's cheaper than through VRBO."

  • Very comfortable place to stay.

"House is beautiful in a great location just north of Tahoe City. The home is quite large with 4 bedrooms. The furniture is a bit outdated and the mattresses were a bit uncomfortable, but the overall charm of the home made it a nice stay. I'd definitely be back next time I'm in Tahoe. The fact that they allow dogs is another plus. The management team is also great."

  • Stunning home, wonderful hosts!

"My wonderful friends and I embarked on our ski trip to Tahoe, right as 11ft of snow came crashing down. We were stoked! Then, a little worried about traveling, power, and food! Our hosts, however, made sure we were prepared. Richard provided driving instructions for the best roads, and recommendations to have a 4wd vehicle, as well as getting groceries in Reno before driving to Tahoe. We were so thankful for his help. Then, we arrive to a beautiful home, warm with lights on, and all ready for us. We were amazed at how well stocked this home was, from the kitchen, to bathrooms, bedding and towels! We had all we needed, and more! The packet of information provided via vrbo messaging with instructions, helpful information and rules, was very thorough, and referred to often. We all were incredibly comfortable in our beds, and had plenty of space to hang. Loved the hot tub! We enjoyed meeting the neighbor dogs, Tess, Griffin and Dodger! Richard was easy to get a hold of if we had questions. We would be ever so lucky to stay in this home again in future Tahoe travels! Thank you!!"
