  • Nice clean place to stay

"We wanted to spend the night in Hana so we didn't want to make the full Hana trip in one day. This rental is just before you arrive at Hana on the main road, easy to find. This unit is a detached building behind the owners house, I believe there are three "apartments", we stayed in the furthest. Nice but small kitchen, nice bedroom with a large bath. The unit was very clean. If you plan a Hana trip, consider staying here for the night, it's about half way, restaurants near by. Get up the next day and check out the Hana beaches, and make sure you see Waianapanapa-state-park. I would recommend this rental."

  • The best location on Maui - in my opinion.

"This property is fantastic. It really is a wonderful location. The view was breathtaking. We used it as home base for our many activities! Haleakala Crater, fishing, beaches, Hana road trip. Greg is fantastic too. Always got back to us quickly with questions (I only really had two). We also left something there and he was very helpful getting it back to us. The house has everything you need and don't bring with you. When he says everything is designed for your comfort he is not kidding - towels, chairs, BBQ, coolers, etc. We wish to return to Hawaii and will definitely look to Pookela Paradise again."

  • Beautiful, private house on black rock beach

"This beachfront property in Hana is newer construction with new appliances, great condition cookware and amenities, and beautiful landscaping. The kitchen and living areas are open and spacious, and the shower is big enough for a party. :) The property is quiet, and located next to a black rock beach with very little beachgoer activity. My only complaint, if you could consider it a complaint, is that the rocks tended to beat us up a bit when we tried to swim, but I concede that we had strong current on our trip due to hurricanes Madeline and Lester looming in the Pacific, so the beach may be more inviting in normal conditions. I would recommend the property to anyone who is looking for a gorgeous view and quiet escape."

  • Wonderfully peaceful!

"It was my first trip to Hawai'i, and I wanted a nice, quiet place at which to recharge, and from which to explore other parts of Maui. I found this location through the VRBO website and was very pleased with my selection. It was an easy 25 minutes drive from Kahalui, and only 15 minutes from the small town of Paia and nice north-side beaches. The owner was very helpful on my first day in orienting me by phone, letting me know of a local grocery store in Paia and some surrounding attractions. The beaches were not busy, the water clear, with big waves (but not too big for swimming!), and some beaches are dedicated to surfing only. This location was close to the famous Mama's Fish House (I recommend booking restaurants via the Open Table app, or calling ahead, as there is always a waitlist otherwise), and an easy drive to other areas of the island. Kaanapali is only about 1 to 1.5 hours' drive from here. Very do-able on any day where it's raining in Haiku but not on the other side of the island. The property was well-kept, everything worked (plumbing, hair dryer, fridge, lights, etc), and it had the beginnings of a self-sustaining vegetable garden, and eco-friendly atmosphere. Each unit here (I think there were three guest suites, and one unit for the property manager) had its own parking space. The one-bedroom I rented was pleasantly decorated with colorful waves and fish. It fit nicely with the feel and energy of the island. And the little yurt was a good space in which to do yoga when I sorely needed some quiet, stretching time, surrounded by lots of light and a pleasant breeze. I didn't use the pool since I went to the beach each day, but it was nice to have nearby. I'd consider staying here again."
