"The view of Hayden Lake and the boats and deck linked to the cabin made fishing and exploring the water the highlight of our stay. The large deck and dining set on the deck made sitting and dining outside pleasurable. The water was a little weedy and murky for swimming, and the shoreline immediate to the cabin and deck was more dirt than sand, although the kids next door didn't seem to mind playing in the water off the deck. We were four adults and one dog. The road circling the lake is pretty narrow and traffic is fairly heavy, so while many people were out running or biking, walking the dog on the paved road required alertness. I was surprised, having visited the CDA area many years ago, how developed and urbanized the area has become. The area offers a great tourist attraction and a fun place to play on the water, but it would be difficult for anyone looking for an isolated beach or picnic area to find one unless one had a cabin or boat of his or her own.
The main room of the cabin is comfortable and attractive, and overall cleanliness was pretty good. The kitchen is very dated, and the "cabin" description adequately describes the overall ambiance of the house itself. The cabin obviously had some water damage in the past, like lots of older waterfront cabins, and while there have been attempts to renovate the cabin, the interior still smells pretty musty. The cabin was well stocked with clean towels, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies, including a vacuum and a nice outdoor grill on the deck. The cabin has a stereo and speakers and a TV. The one bathroom is small but decent and clean, and a washer and dryer, with detergent and dryer sheets were also available. There was no sign of mice. I'm kind of a clean freak, so a newer or more spic and span kitchen would have been preferable.
So while it would have been nice to afford a nicer house with a nicer kitchen, as we mainly spent out three day weekend at the cabin itself and did our own cooking, we booked late and this rental was available. We had no problems with contact from the owners or obtaining directions and key instructions. We paid about $1200 for three nights, which seemed reasonable, given that two hotel rooms, while they may have been more modern, wouldn't have provided a beautiful view, a deck, access to the lake, and a row boat and pedal boat. Everyone living or staying near the cabin was very friendly as well."
