  • So welcoming in every way

"We spent a week at NortherNest; my husband, our portuguese water dog and our two beagles! I'm not sure who enjoyed the 'nest' more; my husband and I, or the dogs! The moment we entered the 'nest', there were welcoming touches everywhere; from the water bowl adorned with dog biscuits, to the crisply made beds with lovely linens and bedcovers, to the freshly cut and arranged garden flowers throughout the house. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful beyond words. As some have already said, the pictures just don't fully account for the beautiful setting, the amazing beach, enclosed deck with access to the pup area, and proximity to Mt Desert Island and Acadia Nat'l Park. We explored all of the island and the park everyday. What a pleasure to have our beagles off leash enjoying time on the deck with us! We will definitely return!"

  • Beautifull Property/Gracious Hosts

"We traveled with one other couple and stayed at Ralph and Judy's vacation rental this past week. Words don't describe how exceptional Ralph and Judy are as hosts. They are genuinely warm and gracious, as well as accommodating and helpful if you have questions about the island. Their property is gorgeous, and the home is spacious and well equipped in every way. We began our days having breakfast on the deck where there is a fabulous view of the bay, along with sightings of deer and turkey. Our days were filled with hiking and biking all over the island. Everywhere we turned there were breath taking views and incredible marvels of nature. In the evening we relaxed playing pool on the grand second floor, or played bocce out back. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing place to get away while enjoying all that this beautiful area has to offer."

  • Wonderful Week in MDI!

"My husband and I stayed at Ellen and Curt's house for a week in June. The house was ideal for our needs, with plenty of space and additional amenities like plenty of utensils in the kitchen for cooking. Everything was clean and well managed. We did not wind up making use of the fire pit, the grill, or the canoe, but those are available if you want them. The house is a bit out of the way from some of the bustling areas of MDI, which was a big plus for us. It was quiet and relaxed, but very easy to get around the island from the house. We went on several walks directly from the house, spent many days over in Bar Harbor, went all over Acadia (biked the Carriage Roads, hiked Cadillac and Acadia Mountains, visited Long Pond and Jordan's Pond, and enjoyed Echo Lake and Sand Beach), and also made it to Tremont to visit Thurston's Lobster Pound not once, but twice! There are two bathrooms in the house, but only one upstairs and you have to go through the master bedroom to access it. This isn't a problem at all if you are a couple staying there on your own, but it's something to consider if you have younger kids who might not want to go downstairs in the night to use the bathroom, or if you're planning to share the house with another couple. I'd also note that the house does provide bikes, but they've definitely been used over the years and aren't in the best of shape -- if you plan to do serious biking, I'd recommend bringing your own or planning to rent from one of the many bike shops in Bar Harbor (we did this one day to bike the Carriage Roads). We hope to make it back to MDI soon, and will definitely check to see if this property is available when we return."
