  • Our Favorite Rental in Section F in 9 Years!

"This was our first time staying at Mermaid Cottage, but it has been our favorite place to stay during our past 9 years of staying in section F in Ocean Sands. It was like home away from home, really. We have rented two different houses and a few different condos in this section, but have been most pleased with Mermaid Cottage. Our favorite feature was the close walking distance to the beach; but we also loved the perfectly sized private pool that stayed sunlit all day and had tons of chairs, loungers, and table/umbrella; enclosed outside shower, bright and airy kitchen & living room with 4 sliding glass doors, very nice bathrooms and bedrooms, ocean view from the top balcony, large lower balcony with several tables and chairs, 3 cable tv's, 2 charcoal grills, lots of beach toys/boogie boards, amazing washer/dryer, and a well-stocked kitchen. We had plenty of room for the 9 of us (7 adults and 2 teenagers). We definitely plan on staying here again."

  • Great location!

"A lovely home just down the road (about 100 yards) from beach access. We also loved the 3rd floor deck - our evenings were spent "in the trees". Larger than pictures indicate. Need to improve internet service so that you do not have to logon each time it is used. Recommended!"

  • Dream Beach Vacation

"My family of 13 drove all the way from New Hampshire to stay at Ocean's End last week. The drive across the 4x4 beach was bumpy (you definitely need 4-wheel drive), but it was so worth it! This house is absolutely beautiful and the views from its many decks are stunning! The house is also huge--plenty of room for all 13 of us. We made the 5-minute walk to the beach almost every day to enjoy NC's soft sand and warm water (compared to the Northeast, anyways). Just in case you're not up for the quick walk, there's also a swimming pool and hot tub for some at-home fun. We played our volleyball games on the beach, but the volleyball net in the backyard is a great option for family fun too. The wild horses are such an incredible thing to witness--and they were all over the place all week! On one day, there was a congregation of 10 or so of them under the house's carport! Kitty Hawk and the Wright brothers memorial is about an hour and a half from the house--we would definitely recommend experiencing that piece of history. Sometime during your stay you also have to go to Jockeys Ridge to see the sunset over the dunes--breathtaking! My husband and I took a drive to three of NC's lighthouses and we climbed Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which offered some amazing views of the coast. As for practicality, the kitchen is beautiful and very functional. It was pretty well stocked, although there were some minor things we missed while cooking, like extra frying pans since there are so many of us. Having the water bubbler was also great because we were able to use fewer plastic water bottles. The only drawback to being so isolated is that there's about an hour drive into town for groceries/supplies, so if you realize last minute that you're missing something, it's a pain. However, if you stock up with food and supplies at the beginning of your trip, that won't be a problem. And trust me, this house is worth the trouble of planning ahead! Tim and Linda were great--they gave us detailed instructions ahead of time for checking in and left a nice little gift bag with wine, toilet paper, and some other necessities for us. We didn't have to contact them, although they left us phone numbers in case we needed to. The house is also right next to the fire department and a small store--the people there are very friendly and helpful. Overall, this vacation was wonderful and unforgettable. Stay at Ocean's End--you won't regret it!"

  • A Wonderful Beach Get-Away!!

"This was a first time VRBO experience for us and was all that our host, Sandra said it would be. From the personable reservation process to the convenient check-in to the very conveniently located seaside villa, we highly recommend this property. This beach villa is well maintained and the access to the pool, club and most importantly, the beach was fantastic. We chose to rent beach chairs, umbrella and cooler that were set up for us in the same spot daily which enabled us an easy stroll to the surf and ready relaxation. Even if you prefer to take your own chairs, etc., the villa has plenty for all. We like to cook in or grill each night and just relax around the table and share stories of the day, etc., so we really appreciated how well-stocked and maintained the kitchen and dining areas were and all the amenities of this updated beach house kitchen. The community has a lot to offer teenage boys above and beyond the sand and surf so our boys took advantage of biking, the well-lit basketball courts and miniature golf as well as the near-by kayaking and golf courses. Our family vacation was blessed by beautiful weather, a wonderful ocean breeze each day and the calmest OBX seas I've ever seen. The villa was a comfortable home away from home and we just wished the week didn't fly by so fast. Thank you Sandra for your gracious hospitality!"
