  • Home with a view

"We have never used Vacasa before but have been to Brookings numerous times. We are so happy to have found this house on a hill. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was perfect, just enough water pressure for us girls. Now, the spa was in the garage with a very cute set-up. The stereo and fireplace were perfect. WAY better than a motel room !!! This house has everything you need, and a million dollar view !!!"

  • Excellent View and Location -- Needs Updating

"Excellent views and the location is perfectly tucked away in a small neighborhood. The new decking made for a fantastic place to relax, sit and watch the ocean. The kitchen is very well equipped and had all the spices you need. Upon trying to grill the first night, the propane was out so I had to cook steaks/fish in a skillet--I did e-mail the owner to see if there was a back up tank anyplace, but never got a reply. Check in was a little tense as we did not have the code to enter the property as I was sent the wrong e-mail confirmation upon my final payment ... My fault for not checking before we left for the trip but the sender should have checked as well. I had no "emergency" or after hours number as the rental office was closed when I called. We got very lucky as the back door to the bedroom was unlocked so we did get in, otherwise we would have had to hotel it the first night. The furniture, beds, and linens in the home are extremely old and really should be replaced--not even the gorgeous view could compensate for this. The bed in the master was not very comfortable and upon checking the mattress it was well, gross. The mattress was probably about 40 years old and had an old foam topper on it along with an old mattress cover. There were red stains on the bedding and the pillows were old and sweat stained.... Sorry, this was just unacceptable! Don't get me wrong .. this is a great place but you certainly expect any rental property of this quality to provide clean bedding. I'll upload pictures if the site allows it--yikes."

  • Weekend in the Sun

"Brooking in January can be clear, sunny and warmer than inland! This sweet little beach cottage was a great jump off point for Harris Beach, Lone Ranch Beach, and Brookings. The game room gave the boys plenty of friendly competition - everything works beautifully. Plenty of room in the cottage, lots of beds and bedding. The kitchen worked well and the dining room allowed for great conversation over breakfast and dinner. There are plenty of little nooks and dens for reading, watching tv and catching up with friends and family. The fenced yard was super nice as well. Everything was in good condition! A very pleasant time. We will return for another visit. Casey was very easy to work with."

  • Fantastic house, BUT......

"This house is beautiful but who ever is taking care of it needs to pay more attention to details. We were asked to start a laundry when we left but there was no laundry soap. Dish soap and garbage bag containers under the sink were empty. An area rug had to be rolled up and set aside because the edges rolled up so much we were constantly tripping on it. We also found cob webs in one of the bedrooms. But our biggest complaint was the stairs down to the beach (a gravel beach, by the way, not good for sand castle building as the description implies). The stairs are very rickety and in our opinion, dangerous. At the bottom of the stairs is a final "step" where you have to balance on tree roots with nothing to hold on to. Then you have about an 18 inch step down. One senior member of our family has some mild mobility issues and was not able to make this final step without help. She fell the one time she tried to do it without help. For us, this was a deal breaker and we would not rent this house again. The sad part is all of these issues could be easily taken care of with a little work and as I said, attention to detail. The house itself is beautiful and very nicely designed."
