  • Simple living with heaven just out the back windows

"Cathy's home is just the type we like to rent: simple and humble but in a setting too often only available to the very wealthy. The place, while older, is well maintained, had everything we needed and was comfortable for eating, relaxing and sleeping. In addition to having a dock, there is a pebble beach off which you can launch kayaks and a nice back lawn with picnic table overlooking the lake. You're also only a 15 minute bike ride from a bike path that takes you 7-8 miles down to Burlington, with a bike ferry to get you over the 50-yard gap that allows boaters to get across what is an old rail line (look up Local Motion's Island Line and Bike Ferry for more information). It has wi-fi but we found that if we wandered too far from a "sweet spot" in the dining area, we'd quickly lose it. As has been mentioned elsewhere in the reviews, the property is part of a duplex with a permanent resident on the other side. We met the resident briefly when we arrived and she is very nice. After that, we barely caught passing glimpses of each other during our 5-day stay. It's always a good sign when you get packed to leave and wish you could stay longer."

  • Excellent Experience

"We truly enjoyed our fall getaway. This was a perfect spot, very private setting and close to Burlington. The views on the way into South a hero are beautiful all times of day. The cottage was ver clean and comfortable. We will consider this cottage again next year!"

  • Beautiful spot, quiet and rural, but only a short drive from Burlington.

"The house was is perfect shape, and the views to the lake, especially from the upstairs bedroom are spectacular. The instructions on running the house were very helpful, for example it was very easy to connect to the wifi. Our second night in the house witnessed a great windstorm which, while quite entertaining, clogged the water filter which meant the house was without running water! We called the contact number and they were fantastic. Within a half hour the caretaker was working on the problem, and within an hour the problem was fixed. All in all it was a wonderful visit and I would highly recommend the house. The only thing I would ask for is instructions on how to work the wood stove! Thank you!"

  • Outstanding and exceptional experience

"Savage island is like no other vacaion rental. Not only is the house stunning and the scenery marvelous but the quality of lodging also exceeded our expectations. The 207 acre island offers uncompromising levels of natural beauty and exploration like no other, one could spend weeks exploring the beaches along the shore, trails throughout the woods and waters surrounding the island. Wayne, the caretaker is extremely accommodating and caters to your needs at a moments notice. Make sure to pack plenty of ice and fresh water for your stay along with your food. Other than bear essentials not much else is needed to have a spectacular time. We certainly plan on going back in the near future and would highly reccomend Savage Island to anyone who prefers a unique and memorable vacation experience."
