  • Very Accommodating

"Our family had a great experience at the Barton house, and the layout accommodated us well. It is true that everything you might need in a kitchen seems to be there! The beds and pillows were comfortable, and there were enough blankets and clean towels for all of us. The two sofas in the living room were a little more roomy than the impression we'd had from the website, so that was nice. Putting two chairs on each end of the dining table, and a booster seat on another chair for the baby, allowed for 10 people seated at the table. There are also 3 picnic tables outside, (and a small patio with patio furniture behind the house). It was a little challenging figuring out where the tableware and plates were, as they were more so in the dining area, rather than in more intuitive spots -- but once we realized, we found plenty of necessary items. We made smores around the small firepit twice, and did plenty of stargazing in that remarkable night sky. While Barton house, and Barton, are definitely in a very rural part of VT, We found the ride to C&C market in Barton to be very convenient...(5-10 min)., and they had everything we needed through the week. Parson's House coffee shop in Barton was also a nice stop for fabulous coffee and great sandwiches. The ride to Crystal lake was also only about 10 min. or so, although we preferred driving a bit further to the Lake Willoughby area where there are several mountain hikes to experience, and some awesome Giffords brand ice cream at Willoughby Lake Store/Millbrook's. The Barton house has a nice small pond which our small children enjoyed with grandpa in the paddleboat; and due to the large field behind the house it looks like it would be a great spot for sledding in the winter. Finally, Gail was super friendly, and that made our experience especially nice. Thank you much!"

  • Wonderful - a vacation in another time

"The kind of place that inspires you to tackle that nineteenth century novel you've always meant to write. Beautifully, thoughtfully restored cottage, nestled in a slice of Vermont heaven. Deb is a warm, kind host who's provided every amenity; every nook and corner is a delight. Check out the little graveyard in the common across the country lane, and see the number of Revolutionary War veterans laid to rest there. Minutes from Waitsfield, but centuries away from all cares. Highly, highly recommended."

  • Great stay, comfortable house

"We had a great ski getaway with our family. The house was perfect- clean, great kitchen for cooking, fireplace for relaxing after our great days skiing, lots of games for the kids. House is an easy drive to Sugarbush and not needing four wheel drive to get to the house was a bonus. Recommended to our friends due to location and comfort of home. We enjoyed dinner at The Hyde Away restaurant, just down the road (sweet potato fries and delicious & local brews on tap). The skiing was great, much better than last year!!"
