"For once the photos on the web site were a true reflection of what we got. Covered Porches was a very comfortable, clean and well appointed home away from home situated in a small, quiet cove with a great view across Smith Mountain Lake. The layout of the house is such that you can get away from each other for awhile or gather as a group for a meal, watch a movie or play a game. In addition to canoes and a kayak, there was an abundance of water toys for the grandkids. Having the small sand beach was great for the little kids. I would recommend renting a boat at one of the several marinas to explore the lake. I can understand why the owners, who were very responsive and easy to deal with, are proud of their property. I'm sure we will be back."

  • Treetop End of Summer Getaway

"Our family was looking for a long weekend getaway before the end of summer. We usually visit the beach or location involving "water", however we thought we would try something a bit off the beaten path. We really enjoyed the Eagle's Lookout. While grilling and sitting on the deck we felt as if we were "in a tree house", according to our 10 year old son! We were literally nested in the canopy with a beautiful view of the mountains. The house had every thing that we needed. It was well equipped. We brought our 2 doxi's with us and they loved being walked on the ski slope...chasing butterflies! If not for leashes, they would have taken off and lost on the mountain for sure after spotting many deer grazing about!!!! This would really be a hot spot for the avid snow skier as the slope is practically at the Eagle's Lookout front door...very cool! This house is very convenient to Devil's Knob Golf Course (where my husband and son played) and the Discovery Ridge Adventure Center where we zip-lined, bungee trampolined, and summer tubed down the slope!) We had a great visit. Kathryn Puritz (owner) was very pleasant and informative....easy to work with. :o) I was disappointed that we did not get to see any bears!!! Maybe next time! Location was excellent on Wintergreen Mountain. We would stay here again!"

  • Perfect Blue Ridge Retreat

"What a lovely house, we loved the woody atmosphere, the equipped kitchen, and the netted patio in front of a grove that blinks with fireflies at night (July). This place has a lot of soul! close to two amazing breweries and all the beautiful outdoors in the closeby mountain range. The owners (very friendly and helpful / answer e-mail quickly) even put a binder on the table with helpful documentation, which was great. I can not recommend this rental enough!!! Arnaud (visited for 3 nights with friends, coming from DC)"

  • Wonderful Getaway!

"This was our 3rd stay at Alice's cottage on the lake. The last time we were there our son was 3 and now 7. We all thoroughly enjoyed relaxing, floating and swimming in the lake. Having the dock there is essential - you can sit outside and catch some sun or go under the covered part for a break. Our weather in July was perfect. We also took the canoe out several times. The views in the morning from the deck are just beautiful - you can see the sun coming through the trees. Very relaxing. We also enjoyed going to the Marina one evening and enjoyed the food and local musicians. Alice remains very easy to work with -- thank you again, Alice!"
