  • Great Summer Vacation

"Arrived home from an outstanding vacation at Smith Mountain Lake. This house will make anyone feel right at home. Mr. and Mrs. Bartell are very hospitable and it shows in their loving home. They have thought of everything and some. The house is very big and clean with lots of open space. I enjoyed my morning coffee and puzzles on the upper deck while taking in the view of the lake. Our 2 daughters, ages 21 & 17, and our niece and nephew, ages 29 &27, had a great time in the golf cart in the mornings around the neighborhood, catching Pokemon and "Hatching eggs." We rented a boat for the day at the marina that is within walking distance of the house. The views are breath taking. During the day we spent most of the time in the water, floating on rafts and playing water games. In the evenings, there was still plenty to do downstairs with music, dancing, shuffleboard, darts, pool table, and a poker table! We ended our vacation with s'mores, courtesy of the owners, around the firepit. We will absolutely be coming back!"

  • Everyone had an outstanding time

"We just returned home from a weekend at SML. Some of us attended the wine festival, some fished on a rented pontoon boat, some watched Virginia Tech and Tennessee win their football games on the big scene TV, some kayaked the cove, and some played on “the beach” – everyone had an outstanding time. The house without a doubt met our high standards for cleanliness and safety – it was perfect for the 5 year old and 18 month old with us. Crib and baby gates were much appreciated. The protected cove with sandy beach were perfect for the kids to play and who doesn’t enjoy waking up to the beautiful view of the lake with the mountains in the background. The kitchen was well supplied and organized. Thank you for providing a container for recycling (something we think is important). We would definitely recommend the home to anyone wanting to enjoy everything SML has to offer. We hope to return next year."

  • Comfortable historic home!

"Our family of 7 really enjoyed our time here. The Farmhouse is beautifully old, with gleaming hardwood floors, ceiling fans and spacious rooms. We spent a lot of time on the wonderful covered porch overlooking the lake. The covered boat dock is great - allowing us to spend entire afternoons at the picnic table, paddling our canoe, swimming and sharing family time. (Geese did not get on the dock while we were there . . .) The gas grill is very nice and the kitchen is big enough to accommodate a family that likes to cook - bring your own sharp knives. Please add to the list of small appliances: crock pot, toaster oven, blender. The 0.75 mile loop road with very little traffic is great for an early morning jog or evening walk - we did both! One thing we would suggest is to wash the picture window overlooking the lake from the family room. Owner is very responsive and nice to work with. Altogether a very nice stay."
