  • A beautifully restored immaculately kept historic property. Wonderful destination for a family.

"This house is definitely a labour of love to preserve a piece of American history. For a home built in 1763 it is very comfortable, has very modern appliances, Wi-fi, AC etc. Visiting some old properties prior, the wonderful quality of this home is it doesn't have an old smell. High end linens and comfortable pillows made it for a restful sleep. Judith provided a very helpful binder with information about the property, passwords and the code to the slave house, as well as info about the area. This place is very educational. The owner collected period furniture and accessories that are arranged alongside books and literature about the history of Virginia, and Virginia period furniture. I highly recommend to devote at least one evening , dress up, and have a candlelight dinner in the formal dining room. Look inside the cabinet for antique utensils. We felt that we took a trip in a time machine. Every morning and evening my husband and I had coffee and drinks in the library. It has a very fun CD music collection. This room is very conducive to creativity. I liked the fact the house doesn't have a TV. We travel with 4 kids ages 9 to 18. We played cards, had long dinners, watched the fireflies. Fireflies are amazing in Virginia! One day I would love to come back and write a book in this house."

  • A little piece of northern neck paradise

"This was our second trip to Pop Castle , and just like last time, our big gripe was why didn't we book a longer time. The home is beautiful- big and rambling. Lots of character. Fully stocked. Wonderful yard down to river, huge trees and lots of space. Everything went smooth as silk. Recommend Rivers Market for crabs and pizza. Also ate outside at Merroir, great oysters and ambiance."

  • Great house and great location

"We visited for Thanksgiving with 6 adults, 2 teens and 2 children. The house was immaculate and more than well-equipped. We rent a large house like this each year so we can all meet and this was the best one yet! The layout was great as the family with the two younger kids had their own space above the garage and the two teens also had their space on the third floor. The kayaks were great and we appreciate the smores items for the firepit that the owner left for us. We had a nice day trip to Busch Gardens but spent the rest of our time at the house and in Mathews. Great communication with the owner and a very comfortable stay. Everyone agreed this was an awesome house and a great time. You cannot go wrong renting this home for a large family/friend get together."

  • Enchanted Getaway

"What a remarkable way to end the month of October in this georgeous home on the York River! The house is tastefully and professionally decorated and so spacious...the pictures online are accurate, and even though beautiful, they still don't quite capture how truly lovely this home really is. The Kitchen was wonderfully well-stocked, plenty of towels and nice linens, very clean and the view is absolutely amazing! Loved, loved, loved the private dock, tidal beach, use of the kayaks to tour the river and see the local wildlife (cormorants, osprey, bald eagles...)...we were already dreaming of a return trip while we were there. Gloucester is a peaceful area with a charming and historic town center and we loved the tranquility of this home, while still enjoying frequent visits to Colonial Williamsburg. Karen is a blessing to work....sooo attentive and accommodating and we look forward to many more memories in this treasure of a home."
