  • Our stay was too short!

"We had a lovely stay at the cabin. The site is gorgeous and the cabin and furnishings perfect. We'd definitely consider a return trip. Thanks for sharing your home."

  • Magic. Spacious. Well thought-out property.

"We just spent the past 10 days at the Artist's Lake-View Country Home. It was wonderfully, artistically, intentional. What I mean is that every piece of furniture, art, shrubbery, trees, statues, windows, lighting was thought about and carefully placed - yet done so in a way that at first appears quirky, then looks completely natural. Applause for Richard Dillon creating such a place. There was plenty of room for us to do everything - sleep, cook, dine-in, walk or simply enjoy gazing out at a sunrise or the nearby woods on any of the 5 open or enclosed decks. The house and grounds/gardens are well kept and very inviting. The information we received about the place was clear and concise. It was very helpful. We came as 4: 2 adults, 2 kids. It can accommodate many more. If I would want anything it would be for more storage/closet/drawer space in the loft area where the kids chose to stay. The rest of the house was fine. We spent a good deal of the time hiking, biking and enjoying Lake Superior. 6 miles south is Washburn, WI, and I would recommend eating at Coco Cafe and Bakery for breakfast or lunch. DaLou's is a great choice for dinner. 6 miles north is Bayfield, WI, and I would recommend the Egg Toss Bakery Cafe for breakfast. Maggie's for lunch and dinner. Ethel's at 250, Pickled Herring Restaurant, Greunke's and Wild Rice Restaurant for dinner as well. The Candy Shoppe is great for ice cream and Big Water Coffee Roasters beats Starbucks anytime. There are concerts in the Park by the shore several times a week. I can't speak for the Wintertime. Our time there during June and July was fabulous. I imagine Spring and Fall are great as well. I would highly recommend the Artist's Lake-View Country home to anyone."

  • Peaceful and Serene

"3 adult couples rented from Frank for 4 days recently. Upon arriving, we were amazed at how well the pictures on VRBO depicted the actual property. If you are looking for a quiet setting in the woods, with full lake access a short distance away, this is the place. The cleanliness was impeccable, my hats off to the cleaning lady. The home itself is very spacious, and well equipped. The only thing we needed to purchase was a plastic pitcher to make sure we had enough lemonade made up to mix with our vodka. The front porch was very relaxing and comfortable, and the fire pit was clean and inviting in the evenings. We also rented a pontoon for the day from Treeland resorts, they were very reasonable, and accommodating, and would also recommend them. I would highly recommend this rental for family gatherings, and or several couples to enjoy a retreat. Thanks to our host for being very informative and gracious. We will most likely be back."

  • perfect for our purposes!

"The Whalen's were very kind, prompt and accommodating. We were in town for a wedding, and due to it being bear season and the size of the town, there were not many hotels in the area for us to stay at. So myself, and my immediate family stayed at the cabin. We mostly slept there, as we are the immediate family and of course were busy with wedding stuff, but there was plenty of space for everyone to sleep, hang out, and the setting (woods, lake) were beautiful. The description of the property was accurate, we had a little hard time getting our GPS to find the exact address, but were able to find it better using the "Deer trail lodge" address. Typical for a cabin in the woods, there were spider webs, and spiders, for most this is probably not a huge deal, I just have a huge fear of spiders! Ha, ha, I kept my eyes out and my family helped kill them as I pointed them out (about 9 in 3 days). Because we are from pretty far away, our phone service was not great, so when I wanted to re-look up/remember the instructions for leaving I had a hard time connecting. I should have perhaps printed them before hand and brought a paper copy as I did not see free Wi-Fi available. (I saw in previous comments that the cost was unreasonable to maintain it, totally understanding). There isn't always a way to know if you will have service, so I will take a note in the future to print off this type of stuff, and if you could perhaps post/write something about this, it may help others! My son wanted to watch one of his DVD's but the DVD on the player upstairs was missing the RCA cables. we used the cables from the play room in the basement and were able to get it to work. also the buttons on the actual DVD player did not work, but luckily there was a remote! so we just used that! The Whalen's allowed me to check in a little early to drop things off prior to going and helping with wedding stuff (since I was traveling so far), that was greatly appreciated. I would recommend this property to others, and I felt the cost was reasonable. We talked about coming back in the future to bring the family together at a time where we have more time to enjoy the cabin and the pontoon boat (we didn't get to even go down and see it as we were so busy!!) We had our rehearsal dinner at The Spot Supper Club. The food was delicious! (prime rib!) Thank you for everything!"
