Classic, restored cottage with panoramic views on main channel of Mississippi in area rated GREATEST AREA FOR EXPLORING THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI by US NEWS & WORLD REPORT. Excellent central location between Madison/Milwaukee and Twin Cities. Cottage is 10 miles from downtown La Crosse in small historic town of Dakota MN.
1920's cottage is on a quiet road fronting open, moving water. Cottage looks out on SKY & WATER. Railroad and highway proximity are not a problem here as they are at many area Mississippi River locations. The quiet road is not a main highway. Tracks are unobtrusive--blocked by small boat landing, fence and road. Cottage sits on private knoll. Eastern windows (all the sitting/living areas) view sky and water--no buildings and no view obstructions. North & South, cottage is surrounded by trees/mature privacy hedge. Garage/fence border back yard. Guests enjoy sitting/dining/cooking/outdoors, overlooking the river.
Rosy morning sunrises, moonlight on the water, and walks along the panoramic road are loved by guests, many of whom return every season. The Guest Book is filled with tributes from four years of satisfied folks. (The cottage reserves far in advance May through September.)
Furnishings are attractive & comfortable. Large new kitchen (stocked for real cooking) and dining area open to a brick patio. Queen bed in one bedroom; double and twin in second bedroom. Daybed size couch in livingroom. There is only one bathroom--keep that in mind if you have more than 4 guests.
A stroll across the quiet road takes you to the confluence of the Dakota and the Mississippi River and a small boat landing. Two miles down the road is a larger boat landing and white sandy beach with blue, clear water. It is worth a stay to watch the sky, light, water, eagles and tundra swans. Close access to numerous fishing/boat rental marinas.
Extensive WI/MN trails & parks nearby. Located close to the scenic Great River Road Wine Trail. Great dining & antiquing on the National Scenic Byway. Owner's Map of La Crosse
My vocation is law, but my avocation is real estate and creating inviting homes in peaceful settings. I discovered the cottage on a Sunday drive, loved the location, and acquired it to enjoy the majestic Mississippi River--in a private setting that is only 10 miles from La Crosse. As friends visited and asked to use it, the cottage became a popular rental.

One word description - awesome! We were looking for a place to stay for a week of golfing...found this fantastic cottage on vrbo.com. The cottage was like a home away from home. It was so peaceful sitting at the table eating breakfast and lunch while enjoying the glorious view of the Mississippi River. This property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was fantastic to work with. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for just about any type of get away or vacation. Pam and Harold of Mulberry Florida

I rented the cottage several times a year since 2007 for family and business visits to La Crosse. I travel extensively and this location is one of the best properties I rented thru VRBO. I enjoy every season here--sometimes to be alone, sometimes to entertain. Dakota is a quaint little town and the cottage has the best residential location for privacy and view. When I walk into the yard and house, serenity surrounds me. I wonder if the cottage was designed so that the windows frame the water---everywhere the water. And then I am only 10 miles from La Crosse area restaurants and shopping. This is a very unique property at a very good price. (The owner has been excellent to work with over the years--good off season rates and always responsive.)

We had peaceful days here. We needed to get away; the river refreshed us. Your house and decorating is lovely. The antiques are beyond a doubt my favorite. I love your combination of colors and enjoyed looking again and again at the artwork. I hope to return. This is my birthday--can't think of a better way to have spend the days leading up to it.

We vacationed in Europe in farm houses and cottages . . . your cottage is lovely and reminds of our stay in Bath, England. The view is amazing. We are already thinking how we can get back here in the fall or winter. Your taste in music, decor and books are so me; I felt so at home here. thank you for opening this lovely place to us.

Such a special time and place--too soon passing, likek the river and the trains. This lovely, calm house has given us very special memories---a perfect end-of-summer place for me and my precious 86-year-old mom. She read, painted, rested and loved the view. Every thoughtful detail added to our enjoyment. Music, books, movies. My love here was the flowers . . . everyday the morning glories gave me such a thrill. All the good vibes that come from within this place speak both of its history and of you. We elave with a feeling of having been in a great place at a wonderful time.
