Classic, restored cottage on main channel of Mississippi in area rated GREATEST STAGING GROUND FOR EXPLORING THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI by US NEWS & WORLD REPORT. Excellent central location between Madison/Milwaukee and Twin Cities. Close to historic Great River Roadway & 10 miles from LaCrosse,WI.
This 1920's cottage is on a quiet road that winds for miles along panoramic river views. Dakota is a small, serene rivertown with superb, unobstructed riverviews. Being on the main channel(not on backwater) gives you a perfect vantage point. From sunroom & livingroom windows, you see SKY & WATER--close & beautiful. The railroad tracks are not a problem here.
The water, light and sky are exquisite year round and winter/holidays here are peaceful & beautiful. Sunrises and the moon over the river are unforgettable. Walks in the rosy morning light are unforgettable. The large gourmet kitchen and dining area open to a large, brick patio for dining & grilling. Walk to Dakota classic white clapboard church for holiday services.
Queen bed in one bedroom; double and twin in second bedroom. Daybed size couch in livingroom. More than 5 guests with approval at reservation.
The cottage is secluded from residential neighbors with no houses between the cottage and the river. A stroll across the quiet road takes you to the confluence of the Dakota and the Mississippi Rivers and a small boat landing. Two miles down the road is a larger boat landing and white sandy beach with blue,clear water. It is worth a stay to watch the sky, light, water, eagles and tundra swans.
Nearby are extensive WI/MN trails & parks. Great dining & antiquing on the National Scenic Byway. An eagle family lives in the Dakota Eagle Tree framed by the sunroom window. BOAT RENTALS AVAILABLE; ask owner. DIRECT TV.

Dakota has the most open views along the Mississippi. The setting is superb because the railroad tracks are not in your yard--which is the situation with many of the river cottages. The location is simply tranquil and peaceful. You have complete privacy but are not far away from the things you want to do.
