Welcome to our family home on Bald Head Island. "Leaping Lizards" is where we have made many memories of our children building sand castles, spotting alligators in the creeks, boogie-boarding over the ocean waves, fishing in the surf, hiking in the maritime forest, watching loggerhead sea turtles hatch, and making jigsaw puzzles. It's amazing how wonderful family life is at the beach. Children will even play board games with their parents!
We take very good care of the home that has brought us these memories. Leaping Lizards is 12 years old and in the highest-quality condition with new hardwood floors and furnishings. For 2010, we have added a new 36" HD TV, a 26" HD TV, and the fastest-available wireless internet service.
Our home has a reverse floor plan, meaning that the upper floor has a living room with a vaulted 14-foot ceiling, dining room, well-equipped kitchen, office nook with high-speed wireless internet access, and deck with panoramic ocean views 70 feet above sea level. We enjoy morning coffee on the deck, watching the dolphins play in the ocean. The master bedroom (queen bed), child's bedroom (queen bed and daybed, HD cable TV with DVD and library of movies), and screened porch (hammock) are on the first (entry) floor with 9-foot ceilings.
We have an adjacent second building that is called a crofter, which offers the privacy of an upper-floor bedroom (queen bed, cable TV, balcony), and lower-floor bedroom (two twin beds, cable TV, video game console and games). In between the buildings is a patio with propane grill, comfortable chairs for watching the sun set, and an outdoor shower.
Leaping Lizards sits high on the Dunes in the award-winning Killegray Ridge community. Behind it is the maritime forest where you might see a deer in the morning; the front faces south beach where you can watch pelicans dive into the water. Our home is across the street from the ocean, close enough for direct, easy access on the private boardwalk. We have plenty of beach towels, chairs, and toys. Six bicycles afford leisurely trips all over the island. We also get around by golf cart. We have a six-person cart and a four-person cart. We hike through the maritime forest and salt marsh, where we can see herons, egrets, foxes, and deer. Families can temporarily join the BHI Club or the Shoals Club for a nominal fee, providing golf, tennis, swimming pools, croquet, children's programs, playgrounds, and restaurants.
Our friendly house cleaner will prepare for your visit with fresh linens and towels. She will also stop by during the week to see if you need anything. We have maintenance contracts for HVAC and golf carts so that you don't worry. Be Happy.
Travel to Bald Head Island: BHI is accessible from Wilmington, NC, Airport by limousine. If you drive, you can park at Deep Point Terminal in Southport. Take the ferry boat to the island, where a tram will bring you to our door step.
