HALE OHIA - PRIVACY IN A PARK-LIKE SETTING WITH UPSCALE AMMENITIES

Volcano Golf and Country Club is located on the sunny side of Kilauea Volcano summit and is a short 5 minutes from our house. The golf course is 18 holes and lies in the cool highlands 4000 ft. above sea level with sweeping vistas of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea (both snowcapped in the winter). Where else in the world can you play golf and site rare /native Nene geese, wild turkeys, and ducks along the fairways and seldom-seen Hawaiian hawks above? It is quiet, beautiful and not crowded because it's out of the way.

Our home was built as a second home/ possible retirement home for our ourselves and so has features that lend themselves to that lifestye. The covered lanai is adjacent to the living room with easy access to the kitchen and is perfect for just sitting and enjoying the serenity of the gorgeous Koa forest in the back yard. The master bedroom is exceptionally large and has a queen bed and room for two additional futons on the floor for extra family members. The master bath has two sinks and a large walk-in tiled shower that can accommodate a wheel chair. The gas fireplace turns on with the flick of a switch and has blowers that put hot air into the cozy living areas to take off the morning chill and set the ambience at night. All of the counters and sinks are corian. One of the guest bedrooms has a queen bed and the other guest bedroom has two twin beds. The guest bath has a tiled shower and one sink. The floors of the main living areas are wood laminate and the bedrooms are carpeted. The ceilings are 9 ft. throughout so there is a feeling of spaciousness and the many windows not only lend themselves to the gorgeous views outside but keep the interior of the house feeling light and bright.

Our home has been beautifully landscaped and is surrounded on 3 sides by forrest and Hawaiian Vegetation. Depending upon the time of year, you will see many different hues of hydrangea, an assortment of camellias, gorgeous Kahili and white ginger, ohia blossoms and an ever changing variety of colorful flowers in our hanging baskets and flower boxes.

If you like to exercise - you can walk or bike the paved and quiet streets of our neighborhood, golf at the Country Club, or hike many of the trails located in Volcano National Park which is approx. 10 minutes away.

If you like to explore, there is no place that is more awesome than the National Park where you can view Hale Mau Mau Crater, drive portions of Crater Rim Drive, visit the Volcano Art Center, watch the films showing past Volcanic eruptions,or attend one of the many musical performances or plays at Kileaua Military Camp. Volcano Village - which is fast becoming an artists community - is a short drive away and boasts at least two very good restaurants. Driving out of Volcano Golf and Country Club you turn left to go to Hilo which is approx. 30 minutes away for shopping, eating, the airport, and other activities. If you turn right at that same juction - approx. 30 minutes the other way is Kau where you will find Punaluu Black sand beach, the famous Naalehu sweet bread factory and mystical South Point - the southernmost tip of the United States.

Absolutely Perfect!

We stayed two nights here while we explored Volcanoes National Park with our two teenagers. The house is extremely comfortable with ample sized bedrooms, a generous kitchen and living room space, and a wonderful lanai. The kitchen is well provisioned and all is impeccably clean. They also have a water treatment system so the water is also drinkable and we didn't need to worry about lugging up our water supply when we arrived into Hilo. The landscaping of the property is also gorgeous. The entrance to the park is only minutes away by car so we went easily out and back to return to the house for meals between our hikes and ranger talks, and then could easily zip back once again to see the lava glow at night. The center of the village of Volcano is also only a bit further down the road if you want to dine out. We also walked down to the winery down the road and enjoyed winetasting without worries of driving. In all, it was a great house for our family in a perfect location for exploring Volcano.

Thank you so much for our lovely, comfortable stay. Everything we needed - right under one roof. Location is GREAT! Husbands golfed, wives went to the Farmers' market, son skateboarded on the quiet streets. And, in the middle of the night, we got to walk thru the Thurston Lava Tube (we do have a park pass and it is actually open after hours - in case anyone is reading this). However, make certain you have enough light (we had a lantern for the hike in and out - but the Lava Tube itself is lit). Our stay here has been a highlight.

Linda and Rick, This is probably our 20th visit to the Volcano and we've always searched for a place to stay that was warm and dry inside with comfortable, well-lit places to read, a comfortable bed and plenty of room. We have found it! My wife and I are celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and your house met our needs. The high speed internet worked beautifully. We enjoyed the house so much that we mostly ate here.... with take-out food from the Thai Thai. We've had a wonderful visit. Thank you.

Aloha Linda and Rick, A warm home in the bossom of Pele. Mahalo a mau loa for sharing this beautiful and pleasant home with our ohana. Your graciousness is visible in the elegance and serenity that pervades this home. We enjoyed sharing Kilauea with our daughters and nieces from this staging post. Working with you has been comfortable from start to finish. Perhaps we will cross paths again in a future visit to Madam Pele. A Hui Ho
