SEPTEMBER - it is our favorite month. Watch the aspen change color and wildlife prepare for winter. Warm days, changing leaves and a sparkling lake are all a part of September. The hiking, fly-fishing, & landscape are terrific. The truout entertain daily.
OCTOBER & NOVEMBER in the Mountains --November is the month to do it all! Late season trout fishing, relaxing in front of a wood fireplace at a cozy lakeside log cabin. Be lakeside when the lake turns to ice, usually around Thanksgiving and Steamboat Ski area opens for downhill skiing.
DECEMBER & JANUARY winter is here. Winter is a great time to hit the slopes at Steamboat Ski Resort or if you prefer an outing direct from your door Cross-country ski or snow shoe the powder at the lake. You can find an assortment of maintained snow trails at Rabbit Ears Pass, 10 miles up the road. Winter brings an assortment of warm fires, snow, and sun. Enjoy watching the big storms cross the divide from the comfort of your cabin, and then be the first to make tracks in the fresh powder.
FEBRUARY & MARCH in the mountains snow is still great, and the days are getting longer. Enjoy Steamboat's Winter Carnival in early February, Ski Area Torch Parades, or a romantic Valentines Day in front of the log cabin’s fireplace.
APRIL - Warm days, or un-expected snow storms, the events are still winter, but the weather is feeling like spring. April’s discounted rate makes this a great time for a Rocky Mountain get-away.
JUNE-AUGUST lakeside during the summer in the Rockies - this is a vacation! Come escape the city heat and enjoy mountain lakes, streams, waterfall and meadows. More than a vacation rental, this secluded lakefront log cabin inside of the forest boundary will become a mountain recreation favorite. Biking, boating, swimming, hiking, trout fishing or relaxing next to the private alpine lake. Include a few trips into Steamboat for the rodeo, hot springs, golf, shopping and many other activities the world class town provides, and you have the a classic Northwest Colorado outdoor adventure. Runners & bikers are sure to check out the many competitions hosted in Steamboat.
Miles of open hills and meadows to hike or ski from the cabin door, or minutes from summer or winter trails on Rabbit Ears pass. This is the place to play in the snow or in the lake---We will even provide some seasonal toys: snow shoes, track skis, and a few other snow toys in the winter; bikes and boats for summer fun!

The log house is decorated for western lodge luxury with a fully stocked kitchen, dining for 8, master bath including jetted tub, river rock wood-burning fireplace, west facing lakeside wall of windows and deck. Pack your clothes and food and your vacation home is ready.
Lower level: Two bedrooms walkout to hot tub. Master has (1) queen bed and private bath. The 2nd bedroom has (2) twin beds and shares the hallway full bath.
Main level: Great room, with wood fireplace, lakeside deck, dining, kitchen, large entry hall and 1/2 bath.
Cabin Loft: (1) Queen futon, card table, and storage cabinet with plenty of board games to keep the family entertained and bring everyone together at night.
Additional suite: For larger groups ask about the detached garage loft with 3/4 bath, queen futon, and bunk beds.
The home is located 30 miles east of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and is surrounded by national forest. Park your car in the garage, then enjoy hours of snow country fun or lake and forest summer activity. Relax as the mountains light up at sunrise; watch the moon reflect off the lake or stars shoot across the sky. A nature photographers paradise as vistas, wildflowers and wildlife are plentiful (a great place for peepers when the colors of the aspen change). Boating, fishing, swimming and hiking are at your door. A lake-kayak, row boat, and wind surfer bases with paddles are waiting on the beach. There are a few fat tire bikes waiting when you want to do a little land cruising.
The cabin’s location at waters edge of a private and secluded 110-acre lake makes this a rare find for a Colorado vacation. Great for families that want to escape the crowds (pet friendly). Children love to wade and swim in the water or sled in the winter. A small pond near the community entrance is a great place to learn to fly fish and for the more experienced fishing enthusiasts the well stocked catch & release lake is at your door. Once you have named the fish in the lake try a day on one of the gold-medal stretches at a nearby river. Perhaps the family would enjoy a day long raft trip guided by one of the many raft companies or to rent inner tubes and float a stretch of water near Steamboat.
When civilization calls, head 26 highway miles to Steamboat for everything you expect from a resort community, golfing, spas, hot springs, restaurants, concerts, parades, rafting, skiing, golfing tubing and shopping to name a few.
The property is 5 miles from Rabbit Ears pass, 26 miles from Steamboat Ski Area, about 70 miles to Summit and Winter Park Ski areas. Denver International Airport (DEN) is 170 miles SE, and commercial flights are also available from Hayden (HDN) about 50 miles to the West. This location is private, but not remote.
Other extras: If you need some extra space or privacy, a detached loft suite can be negotiated (this space is necessary for more than 6).

We rented the month of September 2010. Superb experience in every respect. Never having been to this part of Colorado, we made several telephone calls to owner who answered all our questions with care, humor, and absolute integrity --- a real straight shooter. Upon arrival, we discovered that, if anything, she understated the beauty and quality of this property. We had our best vacation ever; this property and its owners exceeded our every expectation. Property was in top notch condition; owners kept it at that level throughout our stay. Owners had the nicest sense of when to provide privacy and when to suggest a great hike, recommend a restuarant for a special occasion, capture our impromptu canoeing with beautiful photos, or provide a fly fishing lesson. This is a property for nature lovers. If you’re looking for the perfect Colorado mountain get-away overlooking a pristine lake lapping below a sun drenched deck, look no further! Lichen Ranch at Lake Agnes offers magnificent views of Bear, Baker, and Whitely mountains and glorious sunsets over the lake. Deer, moose, and other wildlife enjoy the private security of this haven. Whether you want cross country skiing during the snow season or mountain biking, canoeing, and fly fishing spring, summer, or fall, Lake Agnes provides marvelous recreation. Our host, Sue and Ric, went out of their way to make our September stay comfortable and adventurous. Because we enjoy hiking, we all poured over topo maps, and they shared their favorite areas. The logged cabin home itself provides luxurious comfort to include hot tub al fresco, large wood fireplace, and huge gas grill. One only needs a suitcase and bag of groceries! This is a retreat “for all seasons,” so search no further.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.
Owner response: K & M -- Thank you for the wonderful review. One of the best reasons for renting our cabin is meeting people like you and being able to enjoy our property through new eyes-- You are 5-star guests, we hope you return soon.

"We stayed there for the month of August, 2009. Best vacation we ever had. Nicest home we've ever stayed at. Unbelievable location. Setting is second to none. We hardly ever left the property. Fishing was fantastic. Hiking trails galore. Wildlife everywhere. Most beautiful lake you'll ever fish. Lake toys provided were a blast. Owners are super. Hot tub was extra, but well worth it. Had guests and family coming and going and always had plenty of room for everyone to eat, lounge, etc. Beautifully and comfotably furnished. Kitchen was fully stocked - everything you'd ever need to cook. Gas barbeque grill on deck overlooking the lake was perfect. Plenty of wood for fireplace. Clean windows everywhere. Had NO problems with anything. Can't wait to come back. " Jan 06, 2010 - GeorgeDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Steamboat Ski Resort
"Skip the front range crowds and head to Steamboat where the lift lines are short and the runs are long. A family destination with skiing for all and a excellent base area with many evening events. Don't forget to visit in the summer -- hiking and biking with a Gondola ride to the top."

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We love the Colorado blue sky. We moved to Steamboat to be surrounded by mountains, streams, forests and snow ski. Imports from Wisconsin we needed to find a lake for summer activities. We spent many hours searching for a lake to go with our semi-arid Colorado climate. After years of looking a Steamboat native introduced to this amazing private lake just 26 miles from Steamboat and we have enjoyed playing in and discovering the area ever since.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Unspecified:
When we first bought our vacant land at the Lake in 1994 we had only a few hours a weekend to get away and play. The lake provided us with an escape just a short drive from our Steamboat home. In 1998 we built our dream house overlooking the lake and made Lake Agnes at Lichen Ranch our full time residence. We purchased this lakefront rental log home and its 35-acre property from a neighbor and used it as a private guest house for our family and friends. We recently began renting this property on a limited basis. This is a very special place to us. If you enjoy nature and playing outside with kids of all ages, this is a good place to be. With the help of many friends and families we continue to invent new events that entertain young and old. We play in the snow, rain, sun, and water....we just like to play and this seems to be a great place for it. This summer we are adding pickle-ball to our event list! Oh, relaxing and lake watching is quite popular too.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
After 18 years we still find find, the tall trees, bright stars, crystal clear lake and big snow enchanting! We love to share our piece of nature with others.
