After exploring the world I decided that the best place of all is the Luberon in Provence. Peter Mayle agreed with me and wrote ‘A Year in Provence’ .
You can share my little slice of heaven. I’ve renovated a self-contained wing of my 18th century Provence farmhouse, to make a stunning one-bedroom apartment. It is separated from the rest of the house (where I live) by a large stone-wall - privacy guaranteed! South-facing French windows open onto 4 acres of garden with a beautiful pool, two huge, century old plane trees and lavender, and your own pergola to watch the sunset. An alley of pine trees leads to your private entry and parking just next to your cottage. .
Enjoy the flowers and trees typical for Provence (as well as an orchard with 20 different fruit trees of almost all fruit available in this area).
An attractive place the whole year round: In spring listen to the song of the nightingales in the plane trees . In the summer you have use of the owner’s pool just a few steps away from your apartment, accessible through the garden. A Jacuzzi has just been added as well as a sauna/hammam . In autumn a stroll over the markets will enchant you with all the fresh fruit and vegetables, sold directly by the farmers. The wineyards compete in colours from green to yellow and to deep burgundy red...and in the winter you have the Luberon largely to yourself; the world-famous hill-top villages of Gordes, Bonnieux, Menerbes, Lacoste, etc, the wonderful food, from truffles to foie gras, the unspoilt beauty of the Luberon Natural Park.
The apartment is called 'Sheherazade' and you'll notice its design is inspired by many a happy trip to Morocco. The bed was made to my own design in Marrakech. Naturally, being Sheherazade's bed, it is a queen size. If you've experienced French plumbing before, don't be nervous - Sheherazade features a luxury bathroom with twin basins and a walk-in power shower.
The rustic Provençal lifestyle is a great joy, but so are air condition, a dishwasher , microwave and fast DSL Internet access, so you get those too !
Private entrance to Sheherazade is over a small bridge crossing a tributary of the Canal St. Julien and down an alley of pine trees. This canal, dating from the 12th century, is the oldest irrigation system in Provence, and the property is bordered by its tributaries.
If you have any local difficulties or language problems during your stay, it's a great comfort to know that the multilingual owner is right next door, and I'd be delighted to help with anything. On the other hand, I have my own private sun terrace - so you need never see me at all. And - SHEHERAZADE is the only rental on my 4 acres property - so you have total privacy!
And if you want to find my hidden paradise on your GPS Navigating System - here it is:

Bonjour mes amis! The VRBO bear has just returned from the Sheherazade property in Cavaillon, France. The beautiful retreat was everything he had always imagined France to be… picturesque, historic, and charming. In fact, the Sheherazade Cottage was so comfortable that the bear was hard-pressed to travel outside the restful and private grounds. As you can see from his photo, the VRBO Bear made several new friends and enjoyed a cornucopia of local cuisine… including, of course, delicious honey from the Luberon Area of Provence.
Nonetheless, with advice and directions from Monika, the VRBO bear ventured out daily to explore the wonderful locations surrounding him in the south of France. The Sheherazade property provided easy access to so many nearby adventures that the VRBO bear actually lost weight in spite of his unusually high and thoroughly savored caloric intake.
Everything about this European vacation was satisfying and interesting. However, nothing was more delightful than getting to know the property owner Monika and her assortment of furry friends. As with all great vacations, the time passed much too quickly and the VRBO bear could only say… c’est la vie!

In late June 2012 we spent 2 wonderful weeks at this property. What you see on the web site is what you get - a well appointed, extremely well equipped, and beautifully maintained cottage in a lovely garden setting. Our host Monika was very welcoming and generous - paying almost daily visits with food: apricot jam from her fruit trees, cake. artichokes and other Provence specialites. She was always avaible to answer our questions and was an excellent source of information about the local area. The cottage was very comfortable and beautifully decorated in a Provencal/Morrocan style which made summer living very enjoyable. The garden was simply beautiful - lavender, cypress, loads of flowers and a view from the terrace that was picture postcard perfect. The pool was large, easy access with broad steps, and very refreshing. We are a couple in our late 50s and have travelled widely. This was one of the most beautiful and comfortable properties we have stayed in. We highly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing time, as well as a location that is central and easily accessable to all parts of Provence.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, people with disabilities.

My husband and I just returned from a lovely week in the Scheherazade Cottage. It looked just like the pictures but it was so much more. We tried to get out early for sightseeing and market days so we could come back and spend our afternoons napping in the shade after a refreshing dip in the pool. These naps were helped by the smell of all the lavender growing on the property. The property was lovely. The gardens and house are very well maintained. The location was perfect for our vacation in Provence. The local markets are not to be missed for food or souvenirs. The gracious owner gave us several suggestions that enhanced our day’s activities (she even made dinner reservations for us). I would recommend Scheherazade Cottage for anyone that wants to spend a relaxing week in the Provencal countryside with easy access to the villages and towns in the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Spent a fabulous 2 weeks with Monika. Everything was perfect, including the setting, the accommodation itself, Salaam and of course Monika. Would return in a heartbeat. The suite was charming, the garden was an oasis and the location allowed us to access many of the highlights of Provence. Monica surprised us almost daily with various culinary delights plus fresh fruit and flowers from the garden and was extremely helpful and accommodating.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

We were very delighted with our accommodations which included air conditioning, Wi Fi a great kitchen if you wanted to cook and a nice sized bathroom. There was a nicely maintained pool on the grounds. Most importantly it was a wonderful location to travel around to the hill towns of Luberon and to go to the nearby cities of Arles, Nimes and Avignon. Monika was a wonderful host and provided us with trip suggestions and restaurants to go to- the cottage was also loaded with books and maps to help navigate the area. We would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We had a lovely stay at Sheherazade. The apartment was exactly as described and perfect for our needs. Monika was always to hand with useful tips and advice and we thoroughly enjoyed the company of her fury friends! We managed to explore all of the surrounding area and had some superb meals out in the many restaurants. A lovely holiday which we will be talking about for years to come!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We booked 2 weeks at the villa after a few days we felt that there were far too many checks being carried out on a daily basis of the use of everything in and around the cottage. We were constantly being watched an example was one evening having drinks with some friends at the cottage were were asked to be quiet at 8.40pm so Monica can rest, we were very dissapointed with the way we were being treated, we never felt like we could really relax, the property is up for sale so maybe new owners would be more accomodating to visitors in the cottage. The cottage was very well presented but is located in an industrial area which isnt mentioned in any of the details advertised. I would only recommend this to people who need constant interaction with the owner and have no knowledge of the area and places of interest.Owner response: One negative comment in seven years, and 36 'five star' reviews, I think this only adds credibility to the VRBO guestbook... and I can live with it! It is regretful, though, that the guests did not tell me personally what they did not like, when we shared an aperitif... it would have been more fair, no?

Our week at the lovely cottage in Tallides was easily the best part of a month long trip to France and England. Our hostess Monika was the most welcoming and pleasant person. The property is even more beautiful than the photos on the website. Cavaillon is located in the middle of just about every site worth visiting. The Luberon Valley is an amazing jumble of hill towns, vineyards, and Roman Ruins. Everything is within an easy drive from the cottage. The longest drive, to Cassis was a bit over an hour away, and perhaps our favorite day trip. Monika made the process of understanding and finding our way around the area a breeze. Her market and restaurant recommendations were excellent. Our best meal was in her own farmhouse kitchen. Best Osso Bucco and polenta ever!!. best of all we made a wonderul new friend for life. If you go here, and you should, Say hello to Salam the sweetest watch dog you will ever meet.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience touring Provence by day and coming "home" to our charming and comfortable apartment at night. It was truly a highlite of our 8 weeks of travel last spring. All of the conveniences you can imagine are provided for your use (and then some--what was one do with 3 different types of coffee pots?) in this lovely and well-equipped apt. Leave your tour books at home...Monika will have the best suggestions and will make reservations for you if you need them, plus get you there (and home...no easy feat in Provence!) with her GPS. We loved our unique lunch at a goat farm, arranged by Monika. What great memories we have. Thank you Monika. Carol and Terry GilbertDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

A beautiful medieval village, with a grocery shop, a wonderful bakery (YES the baguettes and croissants are exquisite!). In summer wonderful outdoor concerts in the quarry. One of the best restaurants in the area- and my favourite: the one of Virginie and Niels, the new Belgian owners of 'l'Auberge des Carrires' - have a look at their homepage: http://www.aubergedescarrieres.com/

I
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: My name is Monika, I am of German origin, but a kick of a horse helped me to take probably the most important decision in my life: to quit my job as a journalist and to settle down in Provence - which I did 20 years ago (and I never regretted it one single minute!) I have discovered Senegal in West Africa in 2005, and since then I return there regularly at least twice a year to do humanitarian work, mainly providing schoolbooks, dictionaries and other essentials to schools in remote areas of Casamance - accessible only by several hours' boatride! I am also editing a photobook from every trip (available to buy), and you are welcome to share my experience from Black Africa... this photo, by the way, was done last year with 'my' kids....
Why the Owner Chose Cavaillon:
I ran a B&B for ten years in Menerbes, one of the breathtaking medieval villages just a few minutes away from where I now live . I fell in love with my present home, a 200 years old farm house at the outskirts of Cavaillon, and very close to the beautiful village of Les Taillades - with local small shops where you get everything from fresh bread to strawberries, asparagus or peaches and grapes locally grown... you even have a post office and a pharmacy!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Staying in SHEHERAZADE's cottage will give you all the privacy you want for your vacation, and yet there is someone just round the wall (me), if you want to have an advice... I also was an interpreter in my former life, so I happen to speak some English...
What my guests told me: they appreciate to be so close to all these Provençal landmarks, the hilltop villages, the fascinating towns like Aix, Saint Rémy, Arles, Marseille, Orange, or Avignon - even a trip to the Mediterranean Sea to have a Bouillabaisse Fish Soup in Cassis at lunch is just an easy trip away ... and you literally walk on historic grounds wherever you go! Not to forget the markets, every day of the week in another village or town... What will surprise you: all those Provençal treasures are really just an easy and short drive away!
What they also told me: my dog Salam (a poodle-sized mixture from the dog pound), as well as my three cats, all neutred and well behaved, are a pleasant company to those who like animals! They are not intrusive, just pass by in the garden from time to time to say 'hello'. However, if you are allergic to either cats or dogs, this may not be the right place for you...
