We had a terrific time while at the cabin. We found it to be very cozy and worked well with the two families. The hot tub was enjoyed by most of us and the views from the porch were incredible. Most of us had not been in the area before, being new to California, and this was a great introduction to the Sierra Nevada Mountains without the craziness of Lake Tahoe. We were able to enjoy some incredible spring skiing at Dodge Ridge and enjoyed a walk along the shoreline of Pinecrest Lake. We will return for sure!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: It's always heartwarming to hear that families have enjoyed Lucille's cabin. That is exactly why I purchased it in 1989 ... not only for my own family to enjoy but for others as well. And the cabin is only part of the joy ... it's the area which affords winter sports at Dodge Ridge and summer fun at Pinecrest Lake. The cabin and area really have so much to offer! Owner

We were fortunate to get this cabin within the 14 day booking period at 50% off. What a deal! This cabin was cozy and close to many local ammenities (very good brick oven restaurant up the road). There were 8 of us in the cabin, and plenty of beds for everyone. The cabin had plenty of blankets, pillows and towels for everyone, and although we didn't really cook, the cabin seemed to have what one would need if they choose to cook. Thank you for a nice stay at a great price!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers.
Owner response: I am always happy to hear that friends and family had a great time at my cabin. I purchased it in 1989 just for the purpose of such fun meetings and now I have witnessed 23 years of such groups. How satisfying ... Owner

Six adults and four young children spent three nights at Lucille's Cabin in mid February. We found the cabin to be cozy and comfortable for our extended family group. Everything was available in the well equipped kitchen for our cooking needs. The large selection of recordings and reading material was especially interesting and utilized. We were fortunate to have about 7" of snow on the second night and that made it fun for the children. Nearby snow play areas were perfect for the intended purpose of the trip. We enjoyed gathering around the woodburning stove but the rest of the cabin was comfortable at all times, as well. During the time of our midweek visit there were few people around the neighboring cabins, so we felt quite away-from-it-all and enjoyed the peacefulness of the mountains in the winter. We highly recommend Lucille's Cabin for family groups.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi! I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed Lucille's cabin as a wonderful place to have great family time. I hope that you come back many times. Joe Schmidt Owner

Sadly, we had to leave Lucille's cabin today to come back to "normal" life. Our family had a wonderful short 4 days and 3 nights at Lucille's cabin. Upon arrival it was very clean! Joe's directions and instructions are extremely helpful and made it very easy to know what to expect upon our arrival. The wood burning stove was awesome and kept us so warm! It is an older cabin that has lots of charm and by the time we left we felt like we were part of Lucille's family!! Plenty of linens, dishes, books, movies and games to keep us all busy! The hot tub was clean and very wonderful!! We will be back! My kids are insisting that we begin an annual family tradition of going to Lucille's cabin!! Thanks Joe for assisting my family in having a wonderful get-a-way!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Cindi for your wonderful review. I am so glad that you and your family recognized the cabin as a great gathering place for family. That is what it has been for the Schmidt's and almost all my family have been there at least once and we are spread out all over the U.S. from Florida to San Diego to Texas and N.J. Again, thanks Owner

My family had a great time at Joe's cabin. He was super friendly and easy to deal with. There was a variety of books, games, and movies that kept us busy while inside the cabin. Not to mention the hot tub was a bonus! There were also plenty of blankets and pillows for everybody. The cabin is a little bit older than others - BUT - it has been kept in great condition and was very clean. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We were a bit concerned about heading to the mountains with our little kids for the first time, but there was little reason to be concerned. The setup of the cabin made it great for 4 adults and 4 kids. It was also nice to have Wifi to check out local destinations such as Dodge Ridge, Leland Meadow Snowpark, and local restaraunts. The owner provided a great deal of additional bedding, pillows, etc., to make the stay enjoyable. He also provided the most detailed set of instructions on what to expect, how to get to the cabin, and what needed to be done to check out. One small caution that didn't pertain to us. If you do have small kids (under 2) that are mobile, the second floor does have an overlook with wide spacing between the railing. The owner has provided a gate, but we preferred to keep a close eye on our little one.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I recently spent four nights over Christmas with friends and family at Lucille's Cabin. We all had such an incredible time and couldn't have asked for more. The house was fully equipped in the kitchen, and if you love records from the 70s and 80s, and classic VHS's from the 90s, then you'll be in heaven like us! We were greeted with over 2 feet of snow during our stay, and the cabin kept us all really warm with its wood-burning stove, hot tub and cozy living room. If you're looking for a rustic stay away from home in the beautiful woods, then Lucille's Cabin is the place for you! Thank you Joe for sharing your place with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Camille, for this wonderful view. I hope that all future guests will feel the same about Lucille's cabin. Best, Joe Schmidt Owner

We spent two nights at Lucille's cabin in early December. Everything was clean and in order, and the cabin was comfortable and suited our needs. The hot tub was warm and clean, and the surroundings were beautiful and serene. We spent time at Pinecrest walking around the lake and also visited Columbia State Historic Park. We hope to be back for both winter and summer activities! At the cabin, we enjoyed the wood-burning stove, the LPs, and the board and card games. We found everything we needed in the kitchen for making breakfasts and dinners (we had lunch out at El Jardin in Sonora, which was good). The owner responded to our requests promptly and made every effort to ensure we were satisfied with our stay. All in all, a totally relaxing weekend getaway!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: Hi! I purchased my cabin in 1989 and named it in honor of my Mother. I was born in Chicago, grew up in New Jersey and came to CA on a corporate promotion/transfer to Palo Alto in 1982. I was at a new comer party and told a guy that I wanted to buy a cabin someday and he said look everywhere but buy in Pinecrest. He was right! I purchased the cabin as a place my family could come and visit. Carol is in Pensacola and Tom is in Orlando. My dear sister, Joan, left us in June, 2003. All have been to the cabin at one time or another plus my three sons and many nieces and nephews. I early retired as a Human Resources Executive in 2000 and am now very involved in volunteering for organizations focused on social justice. It is quite rewarding. I wish you well in your search for a nice cabin and can only offer the same advice ... look everywhere ... become a guest at Lucille's cabin! Joe Schmidt
Why the Owner Chose Pinecrest:
Pinecrest is the closest snow and major recreation area from home in the Bay Area. And you don't have to fight traffic to leave or come. Pinecrest has it all ... Dodge Ridge winter sports area for winter; Pinecrest Lake for summer that you can actually swim. Beardsley Lake offers miles of water skiing. North fork of the Stanislaus is ideal for fishing; gold country exploring and spelunking; theatres; three nearby wilderness areas. I have been up in the Pinecrest area since 1989 and I'm still exploring!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Come in, sit on the deck and relax in the quiet surrounded by pine trees. Coming home from skiing or hiking, get in the hot tub to soak those weary bones. At night play a game or watch one of the videos or listen to one of the LP's. The log cabin sets the tone of country and relaxation.
