We rented this home along with the one next door for the Thanksgiving holiday to accommodate a small family reunion. Both homes were very clean and comfortable. The views of the lake were beautiful and sitting out on the deck each morning and during the day was extremely peaceful and relaxing. We got very lucky in that the weather was beautiful the 4 days we were there. The owners were very accommodating and were available if we needed them for anything. Plenty of space and a well-stocked kitchen made it easy to prepare and host our Thanksgiving dinner at the house. I feel like this is a great place for adults to rest and relax. Cadiz itself is a small town with lots of antique shops but other than that, not a lot to do. The recreational areas nearby are very scenic and there are lots of hiking trails. Not sure my children would want to go back though because it was a little boring for them. Maybe they would have felt differently in the summer with more stuff to do outside on the lakes.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

WARNING! House was gorgeous!, well-cared for. FUN STOPS THERE! What started as a much needed respite was abruptly interrupted at the owners demand that we leave the property the first morning after our arrival! The owners pretense is they are people oriented and are available if you need anything. NOT TRUE. Though our preceding correspondences had been cordial and helpful, this was not the case in person. On our 1st night, I was concerned that the "mattress" in the hideaway was simply a worn out box spring unsuitable for laying on. My son and I covered it with a sleeping bag and 2 blankets. Oh well, we'll make do. What gave us greater concern, however, were the buzzing swarms of what we thought were hornets in the rafters and crossbeams of the atrium and upstairs bedrooms. Makes for a restful night for a 9, 10, and 13 year old, eh? We managed to kill the dozen we saw and kept a few in a bag to show to the owners the next day. HUGE MISTAKE. When I relayed my concerns to the owner, I was met with defensive and condescending statements that they were simply "dirt dobbers" and "you're in the country, you know"; and the mattress was just the way it is as my request for a mattress cover fell on deaf ears. I wasn't alarmed, I just figured "Okay..it is what it is." My husband, however, encountered the other owner outside and when he asked about the "hornets" was rudely and abruptly told to get off the property by 11am, that they were rich and didn't need our money and that his wife (me) had been complaining since we got there. UNBELIEVABLE! Who would want to stay? When my son asked why we had to leave, I was perplexed as to how to explain undeserved actions and delusional, unwarranted behavior from an adult to a 9 year old. Their final audacious act was to offer to find a place for us to stay and help with directions if needed. Really? How insulting!! Owner even went so far as to stand in the house while I repacked suitcases, put groceries on ice, and loaded our family of 5 back in the car. Very rude. So.. for the saddened look on my son's face as he dumped the fish he caught back into the lake, for disrupting a well-deserved break for honest, hardworking parents, for your greed at charging us for a sleepless night/cleaning fees, and mostly for your disrespectful words and actions to my family..SHAME ON YOU!Owner response: Always remember, there are 2 sides to every story. We have 3 properties, 304867, 304975, and 305230, take time to read these reviews. Before this customer arrived, there were 19 emails and numerous phone calls, regarding her needs and wants during her stay. The last phone call, a week earlier, she was frantic that there would be electricity on the boat dock, and she would cancel her trip, due to the fact a friend had told her that someone got electrocuted on a dock, and she was afraid for her children. We assured her we would correct the problem. When she arrived, the complaints began.1.Did not like the slope of the driveway2.Wanted to argue about driving directions on where she wanted to go.3.She booked our boat for rental, and did not want to abide by our rental agreement, in regard to the length of time she could keep it on the lake/very upset that she could not take it on the main lake, as we tried to tell her, if the boat broke down, there would be no one out there to help you. These restrictions are standard at all marinas, in this area.At this time she started asking, if she didn't abide by these restrictions, what would be the consequences? She wanted to change her rental date. She then ask us to contact the other renter to change her date, we refused.4.After they spent the night, we received a phone call, accusing us of putting a warn out mattress on the hideabed and demanded a thicker new mattress, because her young son, did not sleep well. This is a new hideabed and we tried to explain to her, if it was thicker, it would not fold up, and this is a standard mattress that comes with the hideabed.5.She then started complaining about flying insects in the house, she said she had to vacuum all night long. After their departure, we checked the house and vacuum bag to find no sign of any insects of any kind. Neither the renters that just left, nor the ones that are occupying it now, have had a problem with same.6.Because we did not jump and adhere to her request, she called and said that her husband would take up these issues, with my husband. From speaking to her husband, he has a passion for trying to please his wife! I must admit I don't!He wanted a confrontation, I didn't! I apologize, if I lost my cool, but I knew the only way to solve all their problems as well as mine, either real or fictional, was to refund their money and ask them to leave. Why subject them to be so miserable in this new home?

This home was perfect for our weekend getaway. Very quiet and peaceful. The owners are friendly and helpful. We rented the pontoon boat and had a great time on the lake. The house is beautiful inside and out, the floors are NOT uneven, the owners are NOT nosy and the air works just fine. We will be coming back next year!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We had a lovely stay here for a family weekend. Our extended family all met there coming from Chicago, Louisville, and north central Indiana. We had 11 people included 2 small children and the space was ample. Ideally the location is designed for 8 adults or teenage children. The cabin is very clean and well cared for. The owners had boats and kayaks available for rental with was very convenient. We found the owners to be very helpful with area and meeting our needs during the stay. Should we travel to the area again we would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We try to be close by, if our customers need us for any reason. Having wonderful customers, such as the ones that submitted the review, are what we find most enjoyable about this adventure.

I just stayed there with my husband, two young children and my father. We had a great time! The house is beautiful and had everything you could possibly need. It would comfortably sleep 8 adults if you use the sleeper sofa in the loft area. I liked that the owners lived close by. If we needed anything at all, they were there to help. I didn’t feel they were nosey at all. If I were breaking the contract, I’m sure I wouldn’t want them around, but in our situation, it wasn’t a problem at all. They gave us some great advice on fishing off the dock and where to take the kids tubing. The only two negative points I have are the air conditioning and parking. The air conditioning was uneven. The rooms upstairs stayed very cool. The bedroom downstairs stayed much warmer. It wasn’t hot at all, but it never really cooled off like the upstairs rooms. The parking is very steep. There is a concrete parking pad located next to the house but I’m not sure the curb would stop a car if the breaks go out. It seemed a little dangerous. Overall, our stay was fantastic. My son asked if we could buy the house from them because he loved it there. If we come back to the Lake Barkley area, we will definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at this property expecting to have a great family and friend vacation. If you want privacy, this is not the place, neighbors are nosey. Owners are on sight and count persons coming in and out, even had a deputy come to the home to state we were over the limit on persons in the home....no parties took place or damages to the property...what a joke. We were boating most of the day, just there to have family meals, and sleep.... There were 8 adults & 7 kids, listing states that the home sleeps 10....this is not the case....barely 6..... Will never stay again!!! Broke the kids hearts and very disappointing to the parents.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: When I received this review, I gave great pause, on whether to respond. Our house was rented by a person, who signed a rental contract that stated a total of 8 persons would be staying on this property. Even as old as I am, I can count over eight, and to the renters review he stated there was 15 persons instead of 8. I explained to him, that he had to abide by the contract, and this house was not designed to handle 15 persons in regard to the septic system. It was also explained that our rental rates are based on a maximum of 10 persons and having 15 would practically double our utilities, paper products, clean up, and wear and tear. I should have been talking to a brick wall, as the next day a tent was being raised in the yard. At the beginning of the third day, the excess people were removed from the property, via a visit from the Sheriff. One of the wives, apologized to us, saying that they had to have this many people to share the expense or they could not afford to take a vacation, she also stated, they try to find properties, that owners live out of town. I thank her, for being honest! In regard to us being on the property, we rent boats, kayaks, tubes, sell gas, mow gas, and maintain our properties, and we live less than a mile up the road, and are always available, if our renters need us. I will also like to state that we must be pleasing our customers, as we are starting to build another house this fall.

This house only sleeps six. If you have small children this house would be very dangerous for them or if you are elderly. The house is is poorly made. All the floors are uneven. The upstairs has a stairway that ends at a landing that looks exactly like the floor. The boat dock claims to have electricity, but the circuit blows easily. This area is very isolated. I would never rent this house again!Owner response: It's hard to believe we are talking about the same house from the response dated 07/15/10. Could it have something to do with the fact that it rained everyday, all day, with 5 children, parents, etc., stuck in the house? and it is still raining 10 days later! I try to look at it on the positive side, thank God the roof didn't leak!

July 18, 2010 - Me and my husband and 2 other couples rented this house on Lake Barkley over the weekend. The house was very well maintained and the view when you walked thru the front door was gorgeous! The house had everything we were looking for, a great view, close to the lake, very clean and well maintained and all the necessary conveniences in the kitchen. The owners were exceptionally nice and check in and out was very easy. We rented the pontoon boat thru the cabin owners. The lake was great with little to no traffic on a perfect Saturday for boating. We are so used to the chaos at the Lake of the Ozarks it was unbelievable! All in all it was a great trip. The wrap around deck was awesome and we spent each evening just sitting outside listening to music. I highly recommend this property as a rental and I can't wait to go back to Cadiz. We will definitely stay at the same place again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
