If traveling to New Orleans, think local! Think bed and breakfast. Think Marigny Manor House! While there are numerous hotels to choose from, we chose to stay at Marigny Manor House at the recommendation of our travel agent. Pulling up in the taxi, one had the feeling of excitement. We were going to stay in a beautiful historic place that was comfortable, in close proximity to restaurants, bars and sites while experiencing New Orleans as one should. A couple whom we shared a cab ride got dropped off in a well known hotel in downtown. Not us, we were going to experience New Orleans from a local perspective. The other couple could have stayed at that same hotel in any major city, but we were staying at local bed and breakfast! Upon entering the Marigny Manor House with all its splendor, from the beautiful staircase, to the period furniture and crystal chandeliers, we were greeted by John. He led us to the dining room and asked us to sit down. He had a map of New Orleans for us and we had many questions. We told him we wanted to experience local food and music but were interested in going to places frequented by the locals. He guided us just as we had requested! When we finally went to our room, we were wowed! It was a large room with the entrance off the balcony overlooking the courtyard. The room was furnished with a 4 posted bed, TV, couch, built-in bookshelf, dresser and desk. The bathroom was large with huge double closet, tub with shower, and sink. Oh and it had a coffee maker in the room, perfect for those of us who like their caffeine first thing in the morning! Gil’s breakfasts were fabulous! (We’re foodies and quite critical when it comes to food.) From the frittata, to the banana pancake and the fresh fruit, it was all good including the presentation! The morning conversations with John and Gil were interesting and they were always happy to give us more guidance on places to go and see. When I think of Southern Hospitality, I will think of John and Gil. When I think of New Orleans, I will think of the Marigny Manor House. When you put them all together, you will have a great time and experience New Orleans as one should!

Staying with John and Gil was like visiting old friends who served you a fabulous breakfast every morning. They shared dead-on local knowledge about restaurants, entertainment and transportation and went out of their way to accomodate special requests. My room was charming and comfortable. I will never stay anywhere else during my return trips to New Orleans.
