An un-attached guest house on a private, gated, 2.5 acre estate, this 700 sq ft residence is located at at 1100 foot elevation in the foothills of the Ko’olau Mountains above beautiful North Shore beaches. Nights are pleasantly cool. Days are warm.
There are only two buildings on the 2.5 acres: the owner's house and the guest house. One is about 300 yards from the other and neither can be seen from the other. Each house has its own private gardens. The property is gated and kept locked; you will have your own key to come and go as you like. Your space on the property is very private. The owners are privacy nuts.
The property was once a botanical garden, open to the public. Although it is now kept private, many of the plantings have been maintained and new ones have been added. Wild birds can be seen in the gardens, and heard twittering at sunrise.
There is a well-equipped kitchen, a bath with tub and shower, one bedroom upstairs containing a double bed built in the 1860s during the administration of Abraham Lincoln. The house is furnished with antiques brought to Hawaii from N. Orleans as well as Pacific Island inspired pieces. The living room has 20 foot clerestory windows.
The getaway has cable TV, cable radio, DVD player, CD player, and its own private gardens front and back. The swimming pool is between the guest house and the main house and is available for your use - although the owners have been known to sneak a dip when their guests are out exploring the island. Pick your own citrus in season and admire the flora of this botanical garden.
We always get guests started with breakfast foods so you don't have to go shopping when you first get here. We'll have fresh breads for you, fruits, and all the fresh eggs from our chickens that you can eat. You can make your own grapefruit juice (there's a juicer up there). There are cereals, too. The cottage has an iron, ironing board, and hair dryer.
There is a Foodland / Starbucks just below us at sea level across from which begins a paved, several mile-long bike/jogging/walking trail. There is also a hiking trail just behind the property. Bikes and surf equipment can be rented right across from the supermarket.
The property is located on Pupukea Rd, right at the top (1.3 miles up the road on the right). Drive along Kam. Hwy., then turn up the mountain when you get to Foodland / Pupukea Rd. It's the 3rd signal light on the North Shore. This is just past Waimea Bay.
And do consider Marlu's Surf and Turf Plan: a few days on the mountain and a few days at Chun's Beach.

Sorry for the late review, I had lived on Oahu from 1984 through 1987, and the Pupukea area is the most Beautiful areas on Oahu, mix that with a cottage smack dab in the middle of a botanical garden and a host that is the most accommodating to your needs and experience on the island, and you have paradise. This cottage is at the top of the mountains of Pupukea, the drive down to the beach is out of this world for sites, the area by which the cottage is located is very private and safe, my wife and I do like our privacy and this gave us the utmost in this, the host was never intrusive and always polite. At our arrival, the keys were where he said they were, and the fresh fruit and juices made the long flight come to and end in perfect reflection of the area. The host had everything one would need for hitting the beach and his connections with the locals, we had all that we would need and more. There was nothing in our week long vacation that was negative to what I would expect from an island get away. Remember that staying here is actually staing in a location as if you are in paradise, no glitz, just quiet, private and totally Hawian. The rain fell every night putting us to sleep and keeping almost to cool for windows to be open, but the tropical smell was to pleasing to close them. The pool was very private and refreshing, nestled in the garden area of the property, the host promotes you to roam around and take pictures of the interesting botanicals. I will return to Oahu again, I have many reasons to return, and now with this location I will defiantly be renting this cottage.

This paradise is a get away that makes you want to stay away....you must stay here to believe what a joy it will bring to you...soft smells, soft wind, with lots of birds...I loved it to chill out before heading to my beach days...
Recommended for:Romantic getaway.

We loved staying here. It's a cute cottage in a beautiful garden with a secluded pool, on the edge of a forest reserve. We had lots of exotic songbirds that we could view through the glass ends of the A-frame. There's a great patio for having fresh eggs and some Kona coffee. A wonderful, romantic tropical experience. Just up the hill from Pupukea beach and Waimea Bay. Just down from hiking opportunities in the forest. The owners are very nice and the listing is accurate.

This is a sleeper-- Beautiful Gardens - pick your fruit in the morning off the trees- fresh. Owner are private however very nice. Your ultimate country home that is 1.5 miles from a swimming beach and a l Foodland market, just down the hill. Loved the daily fresh colored eggs and flowers. I give this ****.
