This little Casita was so out of the ordinary, that we had to comment on it. Lori and Ben have remodeled and decorated in a way that is quirky and unique in the best sense of the words. The brass bed was a lovely addition, as was the local art and beautiful woodwork around the doors and windows. Every detail adds to the charm and welcoming quality of the property. Everything is thoughtfully provided for down to the cream rinse and shampoo! The location, just a few blocks from downtown, couldn't be better. We just returned, and I have already recommended this lovely property to a number of my friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a great 2-day stay. The studio is clean, tastefully decorated, and comfortable -- even for a family of four. Two kids slept on the foldout futon couch with no problem, and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to eat in. The place could not be more conveniently located: you are within a block or two of the downtown area with lots of shops and restaurants and a quaint old movie theater, and another couple blocks takes you to the park along the banks of the river flowing through town. Salida is also not far to Monarch ski area -- we had a great ski day on the last day of our stay. We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Once we arrived at the sweet garden condo we didn't want to leave. But when we did it was perfectly situated for a hike one day, x-crossing skiing the next. The location is ideal as Main street is just around the corner so all your needs can be met by foot. I spent a remarkable afternoon writing in part because the space is a treat for the senses. Lori has created a quiet, cozy, and romantic get-a-way that is tucked back on the property making it feel like your own private home away from home. We loved it! Jackson, our dog loved it! We're already planning our next trip.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hiking, cross-country skiing -- such great winter fun! Salida's reputation for whitewater and mountain biking sometimes overshadow the amazing winter activities available. And curling up by the 'fireplace' and writing sounds delightful as well. I'm thrilled that you were able to make the most of this incredible season. Come back soon!

My wife and I spent 3 wonderful days in Salida, and this condo was perfectly located - we could walk down to the riverside, and the main street strip (with a number of restaurants) was barely a block away. We were a short drive away from Monarch mountain (which was perfect for a couple of first-time-skiiers like us), and some of the views in the area truly are breath taking. Salida itself is a real find - a beautiful setting, but without the steep prices found in some of the better known tourist areas. The condo is fantastic - cozy (with a fireplace heater) and very comfortable. There is a full kitchen, and even a washer and dryer (a real life-saver after our ski trip!). 5 stars!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Indeed, Salida is a far more charming and affordable winter getaway than many Colorado resort towns. Monarch is friendly and full of powder and Salida offers great restaurants and a cozy vibe. Glad you enjoyed yourselves!

Lori is an outstanding host and of more than a dozen vrbo places we've stayed in probably the most responsive, available, and welcoming owner that we've ever dealt with. The condo is awesome, well appointed with everything you need, and in an incredible location, convenient to a multitude of outdoor adventures during all seasons. I definitely recommend this unit for your Salida vacation! Thanks Lori! We'll be back...Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: So flattered! I do indeed work hard on customer service ~ glad it shows :) Also so glad you enjoyed the charming condo ~ it really is perfect for a couple such as yourselves. So handy to everything in town but also quiet and cozy. I appreciate you taking such good care of it! Come again soon.

Ideal! The condo is within walking distance to shops, groceries, cafes, the river and is absolutely charming! Well stocked, warm, cozy and incredibly clean. I've never stayed in a VRBO and thought it might feel like a 'crash pad' or college apartment... but No! The quality and style of everything in the condo and the property itself is impressive. Well-maintained, AWESOME yard, and super charming aesthetic. This is a great romantic getaway and place to unplug, not drive, and feel completely relaxed!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Your first VRBO experience -- I'm thrilled it was the Salida Garden Condo! Love your comment about not driving -- it's GREAT that the condo is right downtown so you can just leave your car! And if you loved the garden in winter, come back when it's in full bloom -- it's beautiful! Thanks for the visit.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: Hello! My name is Lori and I own Salida Garden Condo with my business partner, my 13-year old son Ben. We've lived in Colorado for 12 years and believe it's heaven on earth. There's no place we'd rather be, which is why we bought a vacation place only 3 hours away from our Boulder home. We think both Salida and its Garden Condo are magical and would love to share them with you!
Why the Owner Chose Salida:
Ben and I have, for years, frequented south-central Colorado on our road trips ~ off to the magical Great Sand Dunes, exploring the region's many hot springs, rafting the Arkansas, camping at Mt. Princeton, scouting out ghost towns, and generally reveling in the beauty that this incredible state has to offer. After spending Spring Break 2010 in Salida to snowboard at Monarch Mountain, we decided to more formally put down some vacation 'roots' in the region. The Salida Garden Condo is, in a word, perfect. We really love the mixture of city and country that Salida has to offer. I used to think I wanted a get-away on top of a mountain but, well, I've since come to realize that I like a well-crafted micro-brew, or perhaps a lovely gourmet restaurant meal, after a hard day outside; I like a neighborhood theater, strolling to the cafe in the morning, browsing antique shops and various galleries. I like being surrounded by beautiful mountains while also having artistic and creative neighbors. Salida has it all, quaint and charming, city and country, rugged and yet civilized. I bet you'll really love it.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
As I mentioned, the Salida Garden Condo is, in a word, perfect. It's right in the middle of town but, since the building sits at the very back of a main street lot, the location is quiet. The Salida Garden Condo is part of an historic cluster of buildings, and it was in the early days, likely the caretaker's quarters as it sits next to the old carriage house. It's a flat-topped structure, informed by Southwestern architectural style but with Victorian influences as well. Its high ceilings, brick walls, fun colors and twinkling lights just make it the coziest space. I want to go there right now!
