My husband and I are antique home lovers, and found this house so charming. There are authentic details throughout - I'm guessing that this home was built in early-to-mid 1800s. There are three bedrooms - I think two queen beds and one double. All three beds had tasteful linens and looked very inviting. We only slept in the downstairs bedroom, which had a very comfortable bed. The house is not very modern at all - there was one TV that looked like it was about 30 years old. But we didn't come to Vermont to watch TV, so that was fine with us! There is a river that runs behind the house. There is a hammock out back and some Adirondack chairs out front for relaxing. We brought our bikes up and did some riding around the area. There is a covered bridge a couple of miles up the road. The house is on a dirt road, but it is well-packed dirt and wasn't a problem to ride a road bike on. The owner of the home warned me before we arrived that the bathtub and sinks are stained due to the hard water in the area. This didn't bother us at all, but I guess if you are the type who expects a pristine, white tub, you might not like it. In any event, I appreciated the warning just so we knew what to expect. The house has two woodburning stoves, and there was wood next to them so they were ready for use, but we didn't use them. All in all, I would recommend this house to anyone who wants a quiet getaway. It is only about a 6 mile drive from Dartmouth College and about the same to downtown Norwich, so very convenient if you are coming up for Dartmouth reunions or homecoming.

My family of 5 stayed at this outstanding property in August of 2010. The setting is very peaceful, with the lovely river run nearby to entertain you as you read away the afternoon. The house was very clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed the quiet evenings. My wife and I enjoyed morning and evening walks around this property. Our children went on several bike rides and hikes. The only limit on the bike riding is your ability; the roads are limitless. I had three kayaks for boating. At times, the Ompompanoosuc River may be low, but the Connecticut River always has water for kayaking. Hanover is about 20 minutes away so there are a variety of restaurants and other entertainment nearby. We already have plans to return this summer.

Owner response: Thanks for this wonderful review. Just for clarification, this family provided their own boats and bikes! We encourage our visitors to do the same. Or kayaks and pontoon boats can be rented in Fairlee, Vt, a fifteen minute ride away. Bikes can be rented in Hanover.
