We found this property, the grounds, and the owner all a pleasure. We had several special attention issues (Tables and Chairs delivered, Oxygen Delivered...) and the owner worked with us and was exceptionally helpful. Even making suggestions to help with the setting up and hosting the Rehearsal Dinner. The house itself is incredible. The bedrooms were roomy, and the kitchen wonderful. I also wanted to comment on the view. In walking around the house, you could not find a direction to look that was not beautiful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This beautiful and spacious home was the perfect place for us! Not only was the place gorgeous, but very clean and well kept. The bedrooms were large and very comfortable - nice mattresses and linens. The living areas were nicely decorated and we enjoyed spending time together in those rooms. We also enjoyed the porches - with great views and comfortable seating. We really enjoyed the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The kitchen was laid out well and stocked with all the supplies we needed - we made use of the large refrigerator and multiple ovens. We had 21 adults staying and sleeping in the home together and we felt very comfortable. We didn't even fight over bathroom space! We didn't have children with us on this trip, but it would be a great place for kids to come and enjoy as well. We so appreciated the hospitality and the amenities, such as coffee, firewood, and internet access. After our stay, we went into downtown Asheville, a close and easy drive. I would definitely recommend The Hart House to any family or group!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The Hart house boasts spectacular views, scenery, and promotes an incredibly tranquil ambiance. Not only is the outdoor scenery spectacular, but also the inside of the house is breathtaking. The high ceilings, hardwood floors, and immaculate decor give the house a welcoming, yet spa-like feel. Let's not forget the cleanliness of the palatial oasis. It's very apparent housekeeping comes frequently to uphold the standard of excellence the house exudes! Amazing! Please come vacation to this house of serenity!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We maxed out at 21 in the house for our wedding. We had a fantastic time staying at Hart House and enjoyed plenty of space for everyone to gather together or find room to be alone. Beds were so comfortable, the master suite was cozy despite its enormity. Beautifully furnished throughout, with no shortage of towels, pillows, kitchen amenities, sitting room, etc. So many thoughtful touches like a second coffee and tea bar upstairs as well as one in the kitchen, lights on the trees in the backyard, and makings for s'mores on the kitchen counter. Mary even left a beautiful wedding card for my wife and I. This was an awesome experience, families and friends meeting for the first time in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Exceeded expectations; the pictures, descriptions, and reviews do not do it justice - a jaw-dropping moment when you walk inside and see it first-hand. We are anxious to find another reason to rent Hart House again on our next trip to Asheville!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Gavin! We were so happy you and Cerra could enjoy Hart House for your wedding weekend! We hope you come back for your anniversary! :) Mary

My family and I just spent Thanksgiving at Hart House. We have met up for years in the mountains, but this is the first time we used Hart House. We will definitely be back. Never have we stayed in a house that had so many amenities provided. There were more towels than a family of sixteen could use. Soap, dishwashing detergent, laundry soap, and so many more things were available. My grandchildren could not believe that s'mores fixing were there and waiting for them. There were games and movies for us to enjoy. The decor of the home was inspirational and so tasteful. The furniture, and more importantly, the mattresses were all very comfortable. We enjoyed the many fireplaces and the outdoor fire pit. It was very obvious that the owner wanted us to be comfortable in the home, and she was wonderful to deal with. Hart House felt like a home, and not just a house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you stayed at Hart House! Come back!

This is the 2nd year that I've stayed at Hart House for my knitting retreat. The house is wonderful! It is clean and neat, well furnished and everything is in good working order. The rooms are big and more than adequate for our large group. The view from the front porch in the mornings is amazing! Basically everything we needed was there when we arrived. We've already reserved Hart House again for next year and hope that we will be able to enjoy it for years to come.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review! I am happy your group is already planning to come back next year! Mary

The Hart House was far beyond what we had envisioned for our wedding. We wanted a place for our families to get together and have a small and intimate wedding for less than 50 guests. We got married on the front lawn overlooking the beautiful mountains and we had a blast after the nuptials on the back porch celebrating. The house was more than plentiful for our 14 guests. The playground area was perfect for my son! The house was absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. Mary, the owner, is awesome! She accommodated all of our requests and went out of her way to help us out! The house, views, owner, and the city of Asheville was perfect for our wedding weekend. Our only regret.....wish we would have rented the house for longer than a weekend! We HIGHLY recommend the Hart House!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the wonderful review, David! We loved sharing Hart House with your awesome group for such a special occasion! I hope you come back to celebrate many anniversaries! Mary

This is our second time staying at the Hart House for a girls long weekend for the Southeast Animal Fiber Fair. Its location is perfect for visiting shops in downtown Asheville or near by --do not miss the frozen custard place a few mins away!! We spent lots of time relaxing on the two outdoor porches, just knitting away. The open floorplan worked perfect for spending time in the kitchen and sitting in the adjoining family room. Looking forward to coming back next year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: Having grown up in North Carolina, I moved to Alaska at the age of 21, where I lived and worked for 19 years and where all 3 of my boys were born. We moved back to NC in 2003 and lived in Hart House as a family until 2011. With 2 of my 3 boys away at school, my sons and I no longer needed such a big space but did not want to part with our beloved family home. So, the decision was made to move into a smaller property and offer Hart House to guests who wanted to experience a wonderful western North Carolina retreat together in one house - not in a hotel. It has been more rewarding than we could have imagined to know that groups of families, friends, business colleagues and wedding parties have come together to enjoy the Asheville area and the home that we love. If you are reading this...I hope that we can make your stay in the Asheville area the best that it can be!!
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
Hart House was purchased as a family home because I wanted to live, work, and raise my children in the Asheville area. Western North Carolina is beautiful, the people are genuine, the culture is outstanding, and there is more to do here than there is time in which to do it. It is wonderful to see people from other places enjoying the beauty and character of the Asheville area!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My favorite things about Hart House: sitting in front of one of the fireplaces on a winter's night; cooking for groups of friends or family - 3 ovens and lots of counter space make it SO much easier; sipping a cup of tea on the front porch on a peaceful, warm Spring morning; roasting marshmallows around the campfire pit in the lower yard; grilling dinner on the back porch while enjoying a glass of wine and music with my family and friends.
