Why the Owner Chose Lewis Smith Lake

My home is in Birmingham but grew up on the Gulf Coast and have always enjoyed the water, whether fresh or salt. Since Smith Lake is more convenient and one of the cleanest lakes in the U.S. I opted for a lakehome rather than the beach. I realized I couldn't use the house as much as I'd like so I decided to rent and share on a short term basis; with no regrets.

I hope you enjoy Smith Lake Retreat and the lake as much as I do with all it has to offer. The house is not a rental but a second home to me, so, welcome to my home. -David Philpot

Owner's Map of Lewis Smith Lake

Hi, I'm David Philpot and am the owner of Smith Lake Retreat. I've always enjoyed travelling whether across town or over the ocean to unfamiliar countries. Still, I've always relished returning to a familiar spot away from home that was also home to me. At the lake I'm amazed at the clarity and relaxed frame of mind I can achieve, yet also be energized at the same time. I hope you can "Come to Your Best Senses" at Smith Lake Retreat, as many others have before you.

It was the Perfect Property for us!

Guest: Youth Group Leader (South Alabama)
Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

I am a Youth Group Leader from a small church. This past week-end, we held a Retreat at this home on Smith Lake. It was perfect for us. We were able to house our guys downstairs where there were 6 single beds available and our male chaperone slept on the daybed in the gameroom area where he was able to monitor there activities. The downstairs had a separate entrance which worked well for our boys who wanted to fish in the early morning. Upstairs, we had 2 bedrooms and a futon for our girls. The house was plenty roomy for the 12 of us. The kitchen was well stocked. Unfortunately during our stay, the upstairs a/c "froze up" and quit cooling. I called the owner, David, about it around 9AM Monday morning. He returned my call within 20 minutes and there was a repairman there within an hour. The entire situation was resolved before noon. Everyone has had the a/c break down - I certainly don't blame David for that. I am extremely impressed with how he handled the situation. I would trust that he would take care of any problems that a renter let him know about. We had a great experience and it was the perfect property for us.

Great family vacation

Guest: Shane (houston, ms)
Date of Stay: 05/28/10 Review Submitted: 01/13/11

My extended family: parents, my family, my two sisters' families, needed a place big enough to accomodate all of us. This place was exceptional. David was very easy to deal with and went out of his way to make us comfortable, answer all questions, and address all concerns. The house and decks are very nice and comfortable. It was an amazing week-long getaway. I definitely will return!!

Great Place

Guest: Al and Rita (Birmingham, AL)
Date of Stay: 06/15/10 Review Submitted: 06/19/10

The house was very nice along with dock and decks. Furnishings outstanding. We caught two bass and one brim. Dish was lousy in program selection. David was exceptionally easy to deal with and understood our problem for rescheduling. Would consider Smith Lake Retreat again.
